Life as she knows it, came crashing down in mere seconds with a horrific crime, a tragic accident, and an assumed alias. Can Kendall come to grips with the past, or will she allow it to control her life forever?
Kendall lives in a prison of her own making. Living one day at a time with each day mimicking the day before. The world beyond her 4 walls continues to flourish without her, until a delivery mistake brings an unwanted intruder into her life.
John brings balance to Kendall’s life and challenges her to push her limits daily. He fights his own internal battle, allowing her to do what she can, while working to protect her from the unknown man that continues to follow them.

Haley Rhoades’s writing is another bucket-list item coming to fruition, just like meeting Stephen Tyler and skydiving. As she continues to write romance and young adult books, she plans to complete her remaining bucket-list items, including ghost-hunting, storm-chasing, and bungee jumping. She is a Netflix-binging, Converse-wearing, avidly-reading, traveling geek. A team player, Haley thrived as her spouse’s career moved the family of four eight times to three states. One move occurred eleven days after a C-section. Now with two adult sons, Haley copes with her newly emptied nest by writing and spoiling Nala, her Pomsky. A fly on the wall might laugh as she talks aloud to her fur-baby all day long. Haley’s under five-foot, fun-size stature houses a full-size attitude. Her uber-competitiveness in all things entertains, frustrates, and challenges family and friends. Not one to shy away from a dare, she faces the consequences of a lost bet no matter the humiliation. Her fierce loyalty extends from family, to friends, to sports teams. Haley’s guilty pleasures are Lifetime and Hallmark movies. Her other loves include all things peanut butter, Star Wars, mathematics, and travel. Past day jobs vary tremendously from an elementary special-education para-professional, to a YMCA sports director, to a retail store accounting department, and finally a high school mathematics teacher. Haley resides with her husband and fur-baby in the Des Moines area. This Missouri-born girl enjoys the diversity the Midwest offers. Goodreads Giveaway Win: it was kind of fun to start reading and realize the book takes place in my city, with some scenes literally a mile away from my house. Nice to discover a local author! And I did like the mystery at the beginning, was gearing up for more of that but it ended up being about a victim processing her trauma while starting a new relationship. I did like that the love interest was an average dude working at a grocery store. Refreshingly realistic.
Unfortunately I found the writing a bit juvenile. Someone always has a “wide smile” or “warm brown eyes.”
For only being about 200 pages, it sure seemed to drag on and I’m sorry to say I doubt I will read any others in the series.
After being kidnapped for 9 days Kristen manages to escape. After she flags down a kind old man she borrows his cell phone to call her best friend Kendall. Her and Kendall are sisters in every way but biologically. Kendall comes to rescue her but a horrific car accident leaves Kendall dead and Kristen in awful shape including her jaw wired shut. In the hospital everyone thinks that Kristen is Kendall. Since Kristen's life is still in danger from her kidnapper she assumes her best friends identity. Over a year later "Kendall" is a agoraphobic, depressed mess. A mix up with her grocery order results in the store's manager, John, coming to her door. It turns out John is everything she needs to get started on the long road of healing. This was a really good book. I enjoyed the touch of Kendall's "ghost" giving her friend some helpful nudges.

I think for a new author, this was a great start and things can only go up. She was to the point, the book didn’t drag on but also needed more of a level of suspense. I think she as a growing author will begin to add these things.
