On the morning of his thirtieth wedding anniversary Stewart Harding is found dead. He was an arrogant and thoroughly unpleasant man and there is no shortage of suspects, but all of them have firm alibis. In any case, everything points towards it being an opportunistic killing linked to a robbery.
DI Mark Webber is assigned as the SIO with Gillian Marsh overseeing the investigation. However, when her mother dies, she takes leave of absence and lets Webber continue on his own.
Webber is making good progress until his colleague – and secret lover – DC Erin Macfadyen disappears without trace. Webber’s world falls apart.
DCI Marsh cuts her bereavement leave short to take over the investigation into Harding’s death and to track down her missing officer.

I'm on the blog tour and have an extract to share with you today.
Father Ronan parked his battered VW on the road, diagonally to the pavement, and hurried along the street, seeking Number 8. He had never visited Nora at her house though she was a frequent visitor to his church.
He was gate-crashing. He had invited himself to the party after she had let it slip that the dreaded anniversary bash seemed unavoidable. He wanted to see for himself where things stood between Nora and her husband, and whether there was the slightest chance of reconciliation. If however it was as bad as he had feared, he wanted to be there to hold her hand and guide her to the other side of her unhappy marriage. It wasn’t because he was a priest – or not only because of that. He was also, if not foremost, a friend – that’s what friends were for.
He suddenly realised he had left his present in the car. It was rather special: a multi-coloured Venetian glass vase he had acquired on one of his many pilgrimages to the Holy City. He turned back and sprinted to his car. Father Ronan sprinting wasn’t entirely incomprehensible. He might have been be in his mid-sixties, but he was as fit as a fiddle. His daily fitness regime was responsible for that. And he was dressed for a sprint. Moving with the times, he had left his cassock at the rectory and was wearing comfortable sports shoes, demure and black though they were. He didn’t break sweat retrieving the package, jogging back along Masons Lane and ticking off house numbers until at last he located Number 8.
It was a custom-built Art Deco villa surrounded by glass balustrades and nestled in the greenery of a tall hedgerow. The front door was open, a wooden hedgehog carving serving as a doorstop. That subtle touch told Father Ronan that this indeed was Nora’s home.
And there she was, hiding inside a long beige cardigan. Neither the cardigan nor the bright make-up detracted from her internal beauty that was shining through with all its might. She was in the company of a tall Nordic type with a bloated belly symptomatic of little exercise and plenty of beer – Stewart. One of his big bad Dobermans sprang to its feet and charged towards Father Ronan, snarling. The other one followed, eager for some action.
Father Ronan shoved his hand in the dog’s face, his knuckles up. ‘Good boy! What a beautiful beast you are!’ Despite the persistent snarling, he patted the dog on the head and delivered the same treatment to his brother. The dogs submitted. Father Ronan was in no doubt that they would. He knew how to handle beasts, large and small.

This is the second book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'Broken' which I would also highly recommend. It is also the sixth book in her 'DI Gillian Marsh' series but can be read as a standalone.
This novel consists of 37 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
'Out Of Sight' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Anna discusses/includes domestic violence.
This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene and put you in the storyline. The cover and synopsis suit the book perfectly.
The storyline was captivating from the first page until the last and I was completely invested in it. It was absolutely rammed full of crime, murder, suspense, humour, friendship and everything you could ask for in a page turning crime thriller. I just could not put this book down and finished it in one sitting. The storyline is extremely fast paced and Anna's imagination and creativity absolutely shines through. Anna discusses domestic violence in this book which is an important topic to include in books as it highlights many of the aspects of abuse and how different people act when subjected to it. It also helps people to recognise the signs for themselves and others so congratulations Anna of bringing these to light and for doing so in a sensitive manner as possible. I love the fact that Anna intertwines humour throughout to lighten up the seriousness of the topics and crime which worked perfectly. She also creates a storyline that seems straightforward but is anything but!! I won't go into it in too much detail as I don't want to spoil it for future readers. The way it was written genuinely felt like I was with the characters while I was reading their story over a cup of tea thanks to Anna's fantastic descriptions everything came to life throughout the pages. There were several twists that I was not expecting especially when it came to the ending. A huge congratulations to Anna for surprising me, it is getting harder and harder with the amount of books I have read but you nailed it. A fantastic book in this series and I cannot wait to get stuck into the first book and work my way back to this one!!!
Although this is the sixth book in the series I had would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.
Do not start this book until you have cleared your schedules as you will not be able to put it down!!
The characters were all realistic and strong and I was completely invested in each and every one of them. I wasn't sure what to think of DI Gillian Marsh with her very abrupt attitude and her emotionless personality. She definitely comes across as uncaring but she did slowly begin to grow on me. Each of the characters were believable and Anna's evocative writing skills ensure they all come to life as you read the pages. I'm definitely looking forward to getting Gillian more from the begining to see what she was like before many of her personal problems contained in this book. There were several characters involved in the team including Gillian's "partner" (when she wants her bed and more warning) Dr Michael Almond, DC Erin Macfadyen and DI Mark Webber (who are a couple), PC Gary Whittaker, PC Sharon De Witt and Jon Riley (forensics) to name a few. It is intriguing to see how the promotions affect each of the team members but I'm definitely looking forward to going back to meet them all at the start. There was great banter between some of the characters and many of their personalities were unique. My heart went out to Nora who is one of the characters involved in the case but I won't go into further details as I don't want to give anything away. Regardless of what I thought about who, each character worked perfectly to make this a page turning crime thriller and I'm looking forward to meeting them all again.
Congratulations Anna on another huge success!!! This is why your one of my favourite authors and although this is the first book I've read in this series I cannot wait to jump into all the previous books and look forward to the future ones!!! Here's to your next success 🥂!!!
Overall an absolutely unputdownable crime thriller that will keep you hooked and guessing until the end!!!
267 pages.
This book is just £2.99 to purchase on kindle, free with kindle unlimited and £8.99 in paperback (at time of review) via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

At Sexton’s Canning CID, in order for Mark Webber to be promoted to DI, Gillian Marsh has been made up to DCI, and DC Erin Macfadyen, Mark’s new girlfriend, is hoping to be a DS soon. Webber is delighted that things are on the up, especially as he has finally also been awarded custody of his three daughters. When a new case comes in, that of a burglary gone wrong with a fatality, Gillian sends Webber to investigate, together with Erin, and regulars DC Gary Whittaker and PCs Sharon De Witt and Paul Miller. Nora and Stewart Harding were hosting a party at their home to celebrate thirty years of marriage, and Stewart has been found dead by the caterers the following morning. Nora tells police she was at one of their son’s homes looking after their baby. However, the reader has already had a little insight into what happened at the house between Nora and her obnoxious husband, so why isn’t she telling the detectives everything? Gillian is finding it hard to relinquish control of the case when she receives news of her mother’s death and has to take leave. Not for long though, as Webber needs her help when Erin suddenly disappears. Could it be related to the case or the secrets she’s keeping? As brilliant as she is, can Gillian solve a baffling murder and track down her missing DC? Gillian initially comes across as a rather aloof person, preferring to immerse herself in her work rather than the arms of her partner, Dr Michael Almond, the forensic pathologist, despite his best attempts, but she really does grow on the reader, and I wonder if her lack of emotion and occasional vulnerability place her a little on the spectrum. Certainly she doesn’t always understand her own behaviour at times. The earlier books in this series give plenty of history to better get to know all the characters involved, one of my favourites being the forensics man Jon Riley, and I would suggest reading them in order. This story features a clever and original plot where a seemingly straightforward case morphs into something much bigger with a good selection of suspects and a great ending. I did enjoy this very well written book which has plenty to keep the reader occupied right the way through.
The sixth book in Anna Legat's DI Gillian Marsh series. I have read some books in the series and always like returning to these characters. Anna Legat is an author who has the knack for drawing the reader in and keeping them in the palm of her hand.
As always, the quality of her writing is superb. Every book I have read by Anna Legat never lets me down. This particular book sees Gillian being promoted to D.C.I, but she isn't happy. It wasn't a post she wanted. Then, to make matters go from bad to worse, she receives a marriage proposal. One that she veers away from answering!
Along with her promotion comes Mark Webers promotion to D.I, and his girlfriend Erin is hoping for D.S. everything seems to be coming together for Weber until events begin to unfold. This is a series that's so authentic in the way the police work and how hard they have to work to get the results.
It's a plot that weaves all the separate threads together so well and even humour that I definitely appreciate . Out of Sight is a worthy addition to the series. I was turning pages so fast because I was so invested and read it whenever I was able. A series worth reading if you enjoy strong characters and an immersive storyline. Thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and the author for my gifted copy to write my honest review.
I loved this! Gillian is such a character. In the first chapter, she's huffing and puffing because she's been promoted to Detective Chief Inspector - and didn't want to be. And when her pathologist lover proposes, she's quick to change the subject.
If Gillian were a man, she might be referred to as "a curmudgeon. " She doesn't do funerals, not even her mother's, she tells us, because she doesn't do religion. She is also not keen on anything touchy feely with her father and daughter.
The rest of her team are are real-life people who happen to be working detectives. It's a long way from the somewhat glamorous world of the likes of TV's Line of Duty with their CIS's and cries of "Armed police, stand aside!"
There's a lot of humour, and I enjoyed the ending because it was so unlike every other crime thriller. The police team are in a hospital, yes, but tucking into the remnants of a barbecue. Pathologist Michael Almond had even thoughtfully provided paper plates and plastic cutlery.
If you love a police procedural with believable characters, you'll relish this.
For all those fans of the previous D I Gillian Marsh books number 6 in the series won't disappoint. In fact for the first time in all of the books I actually started to warm towards this, at times, very inhuman detective,by the time I got to the end.
As with all the other books the narrative and description draws you into the story and has you looking at all the different suspects as though you were part of the investigating team; looking at the information and wondering who was telling the truth and who was lying to cover their own back !
I personally think the latter part of the book could have been spent on the disappearance of DC Erin Macfadyen, but that is my personal preference and it does not detract from what is , yet again, another great instalment in the series from, in my opinion, a very accomplished murder mystery writer.
From the very beginning ‘Out Of Sight’ grips readers with its intriguing premise and complex characters. The mysterious death of Stewart Harding sets the stage for a thrilling murder investigation where everyone seems to have a motive. DI Mark Webber is a compelling lead, balancing his personal involvement in the case with his professional duties. The unexpected disappearance of DC Erin Macfadyen adds another layer of suspense, making it impossible to put the book down. The author expertly weaves together multiple plot threads, leaving readers guessing until the very end. With its well-paced narrative and unexpected twists, this is a satisfying read for any crime fiction enthusiast.
An engaging and compelling detective mystery story featuring Detective Gillian Marsh and her team. The initial mystery morphs into a complex case with many suspects and twists and a convergence of personal and professional for the investigating team. I like the believable characters, the authentic investigation and the twisty mystery.
