Looking for a Christmas gift that will shock your preacher and send your dad to therapy? Want the yuletide feeling of shame with a dash of sin? Look no further than this small poetry collection designed to offend the most casual of holiday church goers. Curl up with your favorite mug of hot chocolate and reflect on patriarchy, deconstruction, doubt, and Santa Claus. This is sure to be a Christmas classic—or, perhaps, the perfect kindling for snowy nights.
Kaitlin's words in this book and throughout her Instagram series have been a balm to my mind and soul. I think she and I went through a very similar spiritual journey around the same time, and it was so wonderful to see someone put the experience to paper so eloquently. Her poems have made me gasp, tear up, mmmmhmmmm, and give a hearty F*CK YEAH!
I so appreciate her sharing her gift with the world, even if Gary would prefer to tape her lips shut. Keep writing, brave one. We need you.
A surprisingly well written collection of poetry with a very linear focus. The poetry is actually quite well composed with stanzas in most that had a rhythm or idea that resonated with me. I should have gathered from the title, but I wasn't expecting it to be so uniformly religion focussed. It's a somewhat negative focus, but it's hard to disagree with any of the themes. And especislly the final few, had a very personal, optimistic and resilient core which was a nice alternative to the very religious focussed optimism of the season. I suspect it hits harder in America where the holidays are very church focussed.
