Copy received from the author. Voluntarily reviewing and all opinions are objective and my own.

Such a strong series ending for strong characters that deserve no less!

Cae is the character you love to hate, and a type not often found in fantasy novels but with this series, it works! Finally, the crux of everything she’s been working up to plays out in this one and a happy ending well deserved.

Since book one, Rev has come so far and I love him every second for it. The hate, the connection in the game, the mate bond, and now the love. He’s had such amazing growth and is simply amazing!

Well written ending! This book is an awesome ending and i’m pleased to read how it all wrapped up.

Took me a minute but I finally did it. This book was so much better than the last four only because Caelynn and Rev actually managed to communicate with each other and not only did they communicate with each other but they did it honestly. The circumstances were a little more forced in certain instances in the book but even without external assistance they were a little more open with each other. If only that could have existed throughout the series with their conflict and inability to be together being external this series would have been so much better. Oh well. It is what it is. I'm happy to be done with the series.

Good fantasy.

Beautiful world building but not quite enough differentiation in character’s voices. The story itself is excellent and pulls you in.

Ok it’s official this was not the series for me. If you enjoyed this series I can see why the story idea was there the execution just fell flat for me.

What had the potential to be a really action packed book was just filled with a lot of nothing. The highlights of this story probably took up about 50 pages and the rest was all filler.

The idea of the all-knowing spell book was always a bit of a problem for me. It takes away most of the stakes when our hero’s can just ask for all the answers they need and I think the author really struggled with it in this book. She tried to impose further rules to the books power but it was only applied when it suited her. The first rule the book ever had was that it can only tell you the reality of what was and had been and could not tell the future, literally at the end it tell us one of the characters future just so their story has some sort of resolution.

Which brings me to the magic and world building. All through this series I just wanted more of it. I don’t totally understand the magic system here and I don’t think it was really explored very well. Even the concept of the courts power needing to be fueled but it’s population which is why some of the courts had less power than the others (great concept) was poorly executed. In this book we see a character funneling their power into a fountain, that the court then drink from and this means that the building starts repairing itself and fields start growing? Again it felt like the author had an idea but did know quite how to get it across.

Also our side characters really serve no purpose except to tag along when our hero’s need someone to turn to for a pep talk. Their own stories and motivations completely stopped existing and they’re just available at the drop of a hat if needed. Ty whose character had so much potential and a great way to show the racism and terrible practices this world had just gave up on his quest but that’s ok because he and another character came up with a plan to just solve the issue and bring everyone together.

The whole conflict with Cae being accepted by the fae community as a whole and the rebels within her own court? Don’t worry nobody saw it but she defeated the bad guy that most the world didn’t even know existed so she’s all good now.

Raven’s character was completely unnecessary to the story and I think is a detriment to my perception of Cae’s character.
Here’s this vulnerable teenage girl that is dragged into a completely different world but then dumped back into the human world alone and even when Cae thinks she’s been kidnapped and being held my her enemies she just asks the spell book if she’s ok and even though she knows the book isn’t telling her the full story she just accepts it and forgets about her again.

I have so many other issues with this book but the big ‘battle’ to bring the story to a close really just sealed the deal for me. Because of the way the author chose to resolve it there’s no real pay off for the reader. It happens super quick and our hero’s are barely involved. Oh she has a few extra conflicts thrown in to try to raise the stakes of the fight but in a paragraph or so we’ve already solved it and moved on. It really undermines the feeling that this was ever that big of a conflict when it solves so quick and cleanly.

Honestly my biggest issue with this series is that there’s no depth and it’s partly because the books are so short that they don’t have time to dig into the many complex plot points that are introduced and partly because the time spent on the issues doesn’t progress them in anyway they just all of a sudden shift when the story needs them to and that’s the reality now. I wouldn’t recommend this series to anyone even though I see the potential because the negatives far outweighed the positives for me.

Okay soooooo I wasn't exactly expecting this series to end with so much confusion and leaving unfulfilled. Caelynn and Rev have mated in secret due to Caelynn's bargain with the High Queen; however, they have also decided their futures, she will be Queen of Shadow Fae and he will be High King; although they had a plan neither were truly happy.

I just got more confused as the book went on, now Drake was with the Night Terror and Night Bringer, Raven was kidnapped (?) by Drake's younger brother, Blane, and the Light King their only hope wanted to kill Caelynn because she was shadow fae. (The Light King's mate was shadow fae and she betrayed him). It just felt like the whole book was focused on the will they, won't they with Rev and Caelynn and then threw some crazy events that had even deeper twisted connections.

Honestly, I wanted the fighting part to end, it seemed like it never would, nothing they did was good enough, but yet they survived only to have more challenges later on and this just repeated continuously. I was hoping once the battle was over we could finally see Caelynn and Rev together, but at last, I felt short changed because the epilogue jumps 10 years later (!) and we only get a small glimpse of them happy, they are already married as well. I wanted to see their wedding or anything showing them as a happy couple, it's like we only get to see them suffer.

Although we didn't lose any close allies, the Light King did sacrifice himself to help banish the Night Bringer. The Night Terror and other ancients were killed by the Light King, but the Night Terror (I believe) killed Rev and Light King used his power to bring him back, so he could no longer kill the Night Bringer. Another thing is Raven, now has magic because Rev saved her life and she has also found love with fae named Aurora. Since the Night Bringer was banished to Earth, they now had to cut all connection between fae realm and Earth which means Raven and Aurora will stay on Earth; also meaning Caelynn will never see or hear from Raven ever again. Blane who was an ally from the beginning and saved Raven, takes over Twisted realm since he killed Drake.

Rev gives up the High King throne and becomes part of the Shadow realm where he wanted to be all along, beside his mate, Caelynn.

For me, the High Queen was total ass throughout this whole book and she made bargains with the ancient beings, and now she's pissed she has to find a new heir.

In my opinion, the events in this book that take places kind of make me feel like we didn't need so many books in this series. Considering majority of this book was Rev trying to get his mate to openly love him and rest was them getting their asses handed to them by evil beings, I think the series didn't need to be that long. Also, the twisted new reveals were getting a bit tiring, I mean even the book who loved Caelynn also had some secret betrayals, like come on.

If I am being honest Rev essentially fell in love with Caelynn in book 2 and spends the rest of the series trying to woo her and prove they have a future together while also being terrified Caelynn will continue to sacrifice herself (aka die) protecting him. Rev just wanted his Caelynn which he has been saying for almost 4 books and he didn't seem to care about being the High Heir once he fell for her. I couldn't understand why the book kept pushing the High Heir position when he obviously didn't care about it, I mean the man fell to his knees when he realized he had to leave Caelynn in the Shadow realm and it wasn't even permanent yet. There was no way they were going to be able to function apart, maybe Caelynn would last longer but Rev would have went insane.

Kari is getting her own spin-off series, but I am not sure if I can handle more prolonged drama. Although, I would love to known who is Tyadin's mate.

I just noticed this book was released on 9/4/21 and I see no mention of further books perhaps the series stop here.

Hey guys, looking for a new COMPLETED series to get into? End of last year I started this series. I went in completely blind. I prefer to do it that way so I’m not biased going in.

This complete series was gifted to me. I’d never heard of this author or the books. Is this my favorite series? No. Am I happy I read it? Yes. Would I recommend it? Yes. The series is Wicked Fae. Book one is Trial by Thorns by Stacey Trombley.

I’d like you to picture ACOTAR series, Hunger Games series and the Lord of The Rings series combined. You have humans and fae. Courts like in ACOTAR. Trials to survive like the Hunger Games. Humans, fae, dwarfs coming together to go on an adventure/battles to defeat the ancients.

This series includes:
Enemies to lovers
Found family
Slow burn
Forced proximity
Who did this to you?
Shadow daddy? No.
Shadow Mommy. Yes.

A shadow fae is banished to the human realm for an unforgivable act. Killing the next Heir to the throne. The fae realm is gathering the strongest fae for a “Trial of Thorns” to find the strongest fae. Why? A plague is killing the fae land and people. The contestants must complete difficult trials to prove who is the strongest. For only the strongest can travel to fae hell to retrieve the lost cure.

Wonderful world building. Easy to follow magic. Good character development. Each book gets better. This is a five book series between 200-400 pages long per book. So, I nice little classic fantasy romance. If ACOTAR, Hunger Games, and or Lord of The Rings is your thing then I would recommend this for you. No spice until book four and five. Spice is still minimal.

Overall I believe this series is underrated. Frankly I believe that may be for the simple fact I don’t believe this is a well known author. If you end up trying it I’d love to know your thoughts on it. Happy reading! 🥰

Book Order:
1. Trial of Thorns
2. Curse of Thorns
3. Soul of Thorns
4. Shadow of Thorns
5. Queen of Thorns

Oh wow...oh my...Rev! I promise, I have actual thoughts but first...
*A parade in his honour! *
OK if I really had to, I didn't like how the author tried to make it seem like Rev wasn't making such a big sacrifice (it was) and had just realised things. Also, I'd have loved to see more of Ty and Kari. A few grammatical errors too
What I loved:
•Rev
The most character development was his. He's come a such long way from the angry guy we first met, and the sacrifice he made ...unbelievable. I was rooting for him when he finally put the high queen in her place, yay rev! but sad too. He's just so swoon worthy. I love how he loved her. It was all encompassing.

•Cae
It's so so rare for me to find FMC's that I can list as reasons to love a book (usually it's inspite them) but Cae managed it. Though, she has a massive case of survivors guilt, which I believe is the reason for her hero complex, (I still think the poor thing needs therapy) but she's super kick-ass in a real kind of way. Yes she's powerful, but things don't come easy to her; not the choices, or the decisions, or even the life, but she's made the best of it.

•The moments
So many epic moments! Which I'll let you find out for yourselves(gotta keep some mystery). I'll say this though, the scene in the whispering woods; swoon

•Rai
Need I say more?

•The writing
The whole story has obviously been on a well thought out path, and at no point did it feel like the author winging it or drawing it out. Was a bit worried because I wasn't quite sure how the story and romance would be after the progress in the last book, but it was tastefully handled. Even though the story was fast-paced and action packed, they still had their hot romantic moments while keeping me at the edge of my seat (thankfully, not in that -we're about to die but still find sexy time- way). Even though kari and ty didn't appear much in this installment, their friendship and loyalty never lessened or wavered. I loved how it was written in this interwoven way that all the important characters played a part in the end.
Really looking forward to the next book.

A thrilling finale for this epic tale of danger, fae intrigues, monsters, and love!! Loved this so much!! This book was everything I could have hoped for!! We see a new Caelynn, more hopeful and happy even amidst all the challenges she and Rev continue to face, and with that comes a moving vulnerability that endeared her to me even more. Caelynn is the most extraordinary fictional heroine ever, badass, complex, incredibly strong and resourceful, an inspiring leader … after all the pain she suffered and the sacrifices she made, I was so happy with how everything turned out for her. And Rev too! He has come such a long way from the first book. His journey of personal discovery in between navigating life-threatening situations, political machinations and heartache is impressive and so very touching. I also loved his friendship with Raijin and what that brought to the story.
The worldbuilding and mythology in this book, and the entire series, is wonderful, original, and rich in detail. It holds so much potential for further adventures! I can’t wait to read more about this unique world and some of its amazing secondary characters. Seeing Raven, Kari and Tyadin again was so much fun!

Read the whole series

Read the whole series and the ending happened pretty quick so that was pretty sad.
Their relationship was a little weird and I couldn't connect with them and didn't feel like that were mates or that they really connected or loved each other. I don't think I've ever experienced this before in a book. I enjoy that this was a strong female character.
I was disappointed that it didn't really talk about the other courts and how they felt about her really and they didn't accept her, I was annoyed.

I don't want this to be a review just stating what I didn't like. I read the whole series and wasn't super annoyed with it (I get very annoyed with long series books and feel like it repeats itself over and over) this series did, but only slightly.
It feel like I did have a lot of questions still at the end, like why didn't the high queen want Rev to be high King after she did all of that to them? And what was her bargain? She went out of her way to torment Cae 24/7, but then kept telling her she believed her and then the questions weren't answered.

It's a good series and I did enjoy it

I cannot put into words how much I loved these books. I read this last one in 2 days. Waiting for the author to finish writing each book was torture. I just had to know how it ended. The best part about these books was the way the author made you feel for Caelynn. Was she the villain or the hero. Would she find her happiness. You will feel so many emotions while reading. So many twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. But, also easy to follow. You build a bond with each character and wish for their happy ending.
Will Caelynn get her happy ending? Does she deserve it after everything? Read to find out!!

I will save you the trouble - Just buy the whole set. You won't be able to put them down once you start.

Now, I am going to reread all the books together. ❤

"Sometimes the things you dread in the beginning are the very things that make's your life worth living"

This series will forever be one of my favorites!! It gave me all the feels!!! It was a long journey but so worth it. The pain, the heartbreak, the angst, the selfless acts and the love that Cae and Rev endure....it was worth it. This was everything i had hope and yet so much more!

I'm forever grateful for this story as it was a beautiful, enthralling and captivating. Get ready, the Night Bringer is going down.

This series was good. The magic system and the world were fantastic. The trials were so unique! This series has 3 different trials but because of how unique they were it never felt repetitive like some other series I’ve experienced. The only thing that threw this off was the characters. They were just mid. The banter just didn’t hit a lot of times and character growth didn’t happen for some and didn’t feel natural for others. If the character growth and conversations were different this easily would have been a 5 star series.

I wasn't surprised by the ending for Rev. It was what I anticipated, actually. I found the book to be a little slow as most of the action happened later on in the book. I was glad to get an update on what happened with Raven because I had been wondering about her. I wish the epilogue was further into the future because there's still so much rebuilding that's happening for the Shadow Court that it didn't really feel like there has been much progress.

Finally a happy ending even though I loved this series I found the helplessness really draged on through all of the books and the HEA was now a big relief. But in the ending I would have wihed to have one more longer chapter of Cae and Revs HEA, because I think they would have deserved more of an epilogue

This is an angsty fae paranormal romance, in all I did enjoy the series as a whole but it probably didn't need to be 5 books long as some parts seemed to drag out a lot. Also the whole "I'm not worthy" that continued through the whole series did get old. In the end I did enjoy the series and I would read this author again.

Queen of Thorns, the fifth book of the Wicked Fae series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). A really great wrap-up for this series. By this fifth book, readers are so invested in the characters and storyline, there's a lot of pleasure in a good ending.

Great ending of the series. Was really looking forward for this book. Enjoyed the ending given for Rev and Cae. Rev had a great character development. I was glad the angst in the first 3 books were worth it. I like they finally fully accepted each other even from the starting of this book.

Stop what you're doing and read this finished series

Caelynn and Rev are a power house. Enemies to lovers, groveling hero. Kickass heroine ready to lose it all to save the fae realm. The twists and turns keep your attention while also bringing the love. This series is soo good.

This story was drawn out at times, but entertaining. I do think this book could have been improved with proofreading. There were multiple times when I was confused at what was being said because the word was wrong/misspelled or some things were left out.
