The only thing rock star Marcus Troy loves more than making music is his kids. So finding just the right nanny to take on tour with them is important—as is proving to his ex he deserves joint custody. Falling for his employee wouldn’t just be fodder for the paparazzi: it could ruin everything.
Too bad the perfect nanny turns out to be beautiful, vibrant Ryan Evans. Ryan’s never left her small Montana town before, so she jumps at the chance to see the country. And as much as accidental fame doesn’t gel with shy Ryan, what does is her relationship with her capricious, smoking-hot, shockingly good dad of a boss. Marcus is nothing like what she expected. But when the whole world’s watching them, will life in the spotlight be too hot to handle?
Farrah Taylor recently celebrated her tenth anniversary as a first-grade homeroom teacher in the Lake County, Montana public school system. Farrah, who earned her master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Child Development at Montana State University in Bozeman, is a fiction junkie who strives to instill in her students a lifelong love of reading.
Farrah is thrilled to be publishing her first novel, LOVE SONGS FOR THE ROAD. Intrigued by real-life entanglements between celebrities and nannies, she was fascinated by the complex relationships and intimate connections obscured by tabloid headlines. Beneath the gossip and the drama, she knew, lived an old-fashioned, romantic story about two good people doing their best to navigate life and love in the age of Facebook and Twitter.
Farrah, who has spent far too much of her savings on rock-concert tickets, is glad to finally be seeing a return on the investment in the form of her debut novel. She lives with her husband, Ty, and son, Latham, in Polson, Montana. One day, she hopes to override the boys’ protests and achieve her long-time goal of owning a Chinese Crested Hairless dog.
This is not your typical rock star hero book. Yes the heroine Ryan does find the hero Marcus trussed up like a Christmas Turkey when they first meet, but looks can be deceiving as she soon finds out.
Marcus, despite being a big star, is a dad first. The love he feels for his adorable kids jumps off the page. This just makes him more loveable. I wanted to hug him for being such a great dad. He shows that just because he does something he loves in singing and performing, it doesn't mean he doesn't have a life offstage.
Ryan the nanny is a wonderful character. I loved her reaction to their interview after she finds him tied up. She is the perfect foil for Marcus and his kids. Add in the fact she sees Marcus for more than the public image and doesn't try to change for him or anybody.
The whole storyline is a fresh take on the rock star genre going around. It's sweet, funny, heartwarming and not over the top racy. Sometimes you need a break from that and this is the book you will want.
It was fun to watch Marcus and Ryan interact with each other, the kids, other band members and heartbreaking to see him deal with a complete bitch of an ex-wife. Yes you can guess I didn't like her at all. You will see why.
When Marcus gains custody of his kids to take on tour with him, he hires a new nanny in Ryan to help. But what starts out as a boss and employee arrangement quickly gets blurred when both find themselves attracted to the other. But with a nasty ex-wife trying to change the rules of custody, invasive paparazzi, and the kids thrown in the mix, can they find happiness or will it just be a fling for the road ?
I loved this book and didn't want to put it down when I started. I will be definitely looking for more from this author.
This ARC of the book was supplied by the publisher for an honest review.
I really love it when a new author comes out strong with her first book and Farrah Taylor has managed to do just that with Love Songs for the Road. The story of a rock and roll legend who happens to be a devoted father fighting for custody of his children while trying to manage a road trip and not fall head over heels for his children’s new nanny. Intrigued? I was, and fell in love immediately with these characters and their crazy roller coaster ride of a relationship. Sweet, sassy, with a lot of stem that turned into sexy fun made this one extremely enjoyable story.
I swear I wanted to scoop Marcus Troy up in a spoon and eat him up. While devoted to his career of making music, he is also devoted to giving his children the attention they need when they are with him. I adore the way he interacts with his children, he’s firm and while he might indulge them from time to time he’s not afraid to say no or be their father when he needs to be. His kids are extremely well adjusted considering their Dad’s occupation and the divorce that split up their family. They are inquisitive, amazing, and precocious but they are also really great kids. While on the road, he spends as much time as he possibly can with them and includes them in his performances from time to time. I also admire the fact that he really does try and do the right thing by not getting involved with his nanny but when they do become involved they don’t flaunt the change in their relationship in front of the children.
Ryan Evans is one of those female characters you can’t help but love. Although fairly young, she has a good head on her shoulders. She has no problem putting big, bad rock god, Marcus in his place when he needs it or telling him exactly what she thinks. I like that she doesn’t mince words with him and doesn’t feel she had to change who she is to keep her job. She’s a pro at handling the children being firm when she needs to be but not squashing their personalities. I think it was very telling how at ease the kids were with her from the very beginning. She was unprepared for the fame that came with being a rock legend’s nanny especially when the press made it out to be more even before there was anything between her and Marcus. While she may have overreacted slightly, I had to remind myself of her age because most of the time she acted and presented herself as much older than her 25 years.
From the first chapter to the very last I enjoyed the interactions between Marcus and Ryan as well as theirs with the children. There were so many great moments in this book making it a very well rounded story. This wasn’t a typical rock star romance, and as much as I enjoy those, this book was a breath of fresh air. This is one author I have on my watch list and I can’t wait to see what she does next. A sexy Dad rock star hero, a feisty no nonsense heroine, two bright and loving children, an original plot featuring a beautiful love story makes Love Songs for the Road an amazing first effort by Farrah Taylor!
Five stars to debut novelist Farrah Taylor for Love Songs for the Road, an anthem to romance.
The advice that tells a writer to depict what they know was taken to heart by first-time author Farrah Taylor. She's receiving a standing ovation from me for a contemporary romance novel that's not only a fun read, but also provides some insight into a musician's life on the road - and it's costs. Her book, Love Songs for the Road (Entangled Bliss), tells the story of rock star Marcus Troy, his two children Charlotte and Miles, and their new nanny, Ryan Evans.
While we're probably very familiar with stories - fiction and nonfiction - of celebrity employers falling in love with their nannies (and vice versa), Taylor is able to keep this trope fresh with both the likeability of her protagonists and also the rock star bus tour setting of the main part of the story.
Love Songs for the Road also has conflict, both from a jealous longtime admirer of Marcus and also the machinations of his ex-wife. Both these subplots keep the tension level raised and the pages turning.
What drew me into the story? Simply put, the answer is the initial description of characters of Marcus, Ryan, Charlotte, and Miles. How could I not be fascinated, as I believe Ryan was, with a millionaire rock star who allowed his children to bind him in his study - while he was in his skivvies. His good nature - and somewhat clueless approach to what might be perceived as startling or beyond the bounds - was fresh and resonated as true for someone in his position. Ryan, a Kalispell (MT) native, was immediately drawn to his physicality and balances out his spontaneity with her more serious and studied approach to the care of children. She was able to see immediately that he was a loving and caring father - and that is one of the love songs that resonates throughout this story.
Ms. Taylor, yes, all those concerts you attended did pay off as your depiction of life on the road, the isolation of the famous, and the desire for something real all resonated as true. This was not a rock star road trip book filled with groupies or wild and anonymous sex. But there are some beautiful love scenes between the protagonists, and more than that, a touching and moving story of admiration, friendship, and physical attraction building into love.
I'm looking forward to future stories from this author and I think you will be too. Kudos!
In conclusion, I'm awarding five stars to debut novelist Farrah Taylor for Love Songs for the Road, an anthem to romance.
This is a excellent debut novel from Farrah Taylor. Romantic, sweet and fun, Love Songs for the Road is a charming read filled with emotion.
Taking the winning formula of a sexy rock star hero, this is slightly different in that Marcus Troy is an amazing Dad to two very insightful, fun-loving cheeky youngsters who inject many of the moments at which you simply can't not laugh and smile at. Taking them on the road with him means they need a nanny and level-headed, sweet-natured Ryan is that lady. Marcus hugely surprised me with his personalities and traits, I loved both him and Ryan and whilst their intimate moments were behind closed doors, their growing feelings or the obstacles they face weren't. Their chemistry may not have been electric but it was touching and with a good air of realism.
Although I would have liked a little more content when they finally gave in to their feelings, it's a worthy addition to the Bliss line of books and a sweet easy-read romance that I lost myself in. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
I received this as an ARC from the publisher for an honest and unbiased opinion.
Ramblings. December 2013 has been a great month for me in terms of my relationship with Netgalley. Ha ha ha. It was in that month when most of my requests for ARCs got approved. Woot woot! But here's something that I did which may come across as hilarious. With several months already registered in that site and not a single request that I made got approved, I did this random clicking on loads of titles and just testing if they'll approve it. Then one day when I checked my email address ... I was quite shocked when a number of confirmation messages appeared on my inbox. That's what landed me in this current situation I'm in. Yep, I'm currently in this "eliminating ARCs that are January releases" phase. Love Songs for the Road is one of those, this will be released in January 13th.
Immediate thought after reading this book. Well, that was predictable. But I quite enjoyed it and the last part did bring some emotions out of me.
My thoughts. Ooookay. Most of the books that I've been reading lately has this issue with time. I'm not against in reading a book which is fast paced but it just doesn't fit this genre. I believe that time is very essential from the exact moment the book's main characters meet until the moment they've realized that there's an attraction/compatibility between them or even the time they act on it already. Because during that specific time frame, readers will be treated on how they cultivated and build their relationship. It isn't something we can fast track and not necessarily prolong, but atleast give the readers the sense that these two are really for each other and there's depth to their relationship. In this book, it seems like everything happened in a flash. I would love to have more content and juice to it.
Tour Bubble. Noticing how fast their relationship escalated, I was quite afraid that everything will happen or their story will end upon the last show of Marcus. And here's the good thing about this book, it didn't. Why am I happy about that? Because in those tour days they've been living inside a bubble and maybe it was just that which might have caused their attraction. With always being around each other and closed off to the real world can certainly fuel something. In here, Farrah Taylor this time around gave us some scenes wherein these characters were apart, back to the real open world and taking in some time to reflect on their feelings towards each other. So, that's a plus to this book.
Ryan Evans. I love her character. Why? Because she isn't this girl who was easily swayed and will drop everything she wanted to be in her life just because she's in a relationship with a celebrity. She stood her ground and showed that she valued her own person.
Marcus Troy. I'm definitely in love with those scenes which involve Marcus and his kids. It's great that he's got this rock star image but still can be a cool dad. In this book, it truly shows how Marcus adores his kids and will fight to the ends of the Earth to be with them. And his kids are soooo adorable. Charlotte acting like an adult, busting Ryan and Marcus holding hands is just a precious and certainly a LOL moment! Miles just being Miles, who's always in a sugar rush with everything he eats or drinks ... yep jumping up and down or running around the tour bus.
As a whole, I had a good time reading this book. It's a super short read which you can finish reading under two to three hours, I think.
*I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley and the publisher for an honest review*
This book had a strong start--a real "meet cute" in which Marcus also manages to demonstrate his awesome dad abilities--loved it! Ryan wasn't too overwhelmed by her new boss's star power to stand up for herself, which was fantastic--for much of the book, she was a really strong character. I liked that she had such a solid understanding of kids and was able to get a handle on Marcus's two, Charlotte and Miles, right from the start.
As Ryan says at one point, "Adults were crazy; kids were a piece of cake."
Charlotte and Miles really steal the show. Whether they're interacting with Marcus, Ryan, Smitty (lead guitarist), or a combination, they practically jump off the page--especially six-year-old Marcus. You can really tell that the author has spent a lot of time around children--no frighteningly fictional kids here!
The setting of being on a national rock tour was definitely different one--it makes for an interesting view into the life of a famous musician. One can only imagine how difficult it must be to be so much in the public eye all the time, and Ryan naturally is not at all used to the pressure. That said, however, the two times that she snaps--one early on, one about halfway through--really seemed out of character for her. They do play a big part in future events, but still those two scenes just didn't sit right with me.
It felt like Marcus and Ryan's relationship progressed a bit too quickly, especially given the previous experiences of the two (Ryan was badly hurt by a cheating boyfriend, and Marcus hadn't had any relationships at all since his bitter divorce four years earlier). Initially, both felt the attraction and resisted, knowing that it wasn't a good idea to act on it--and rightly so. (The image of big, burly Smitty acting as a cautioning angel on Marcus's shoulder was particularly amusing.) Next thing you knew, though, their resolutions were out the window. I almost thought I'd missed something there, because it still didn't seem like a smart idea to me--hormones or no. It seemed at odds with the more mature Marcus and his dedication to his kids, not to mention usually level-headed Ryan.
Don't get me wrong, I wanted them to get together--but the timing didn't feel quite right there.
Marcus--and Ryan, by going along with him--made a decision during his last concert stop that really had me questioning his judgement. He was called on it, though, and ended up realizing that he'd made a poor choice, which went a long way toward redeeming him--and that aspect of the plot.
The ending, like the beginning, was strong. I appreciated that their relationship, when not on tour, slowed down to a reasonable pace given their lives and situations. I finished the book with a smile, the overall feel-good ending overshadowing the earlier elements that had given me pause. I'll definitely be interested to see what Ms. Taylor has for us in the future.
B+ rating.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I am a total sucker for rock star love stories. Famous rocker falls for ordinary girl and I’m hooked. Love Songs for the Road has easily become one of my all time favorites! If you’ve read one rock star story, chances are the next one you read will be similar. If you’re looking for that bad boy rocker meets good girl and changes his ways story then this is not the story for you. This story is not like the others and that’s what makes this one special. Marcus is a famous rock star that is looking for a nanny for his two kids that can travel on his summer tour. Ryan is a college student looking for a job during her summer break. The two meet and immediately there are sparks. The rest, well you’ll have to read to find out. What really sold me on this story is Marcus. He’s in his late thirties, divorced and trying to be a great dad. He’s devoted to his kids, and not an irresponsible dad that has little time for his kids because of his rocker lifestyle. Marcus has lived the celebrity lifestyle, but he was married and devoted to his wife and family. There were not tons of women and one night stands. No drunken nights out on the road. He’s one of the good guys. I loved that! Ryan is younger, but mature. I wish she would have been a little older, but her maturity made her relationship with Marcus work. Their romance is sweet and gradual. You can feel their excitement of being in a new relationship. I love this author’s writing style and cannot wait to read more from her in the future.
If you’re looking for irresistible read that will both give you a toothache from the sweetness, while still getting your heart racing in all the right spots, Love Songs for the Road by Farrah Taylor is the perfect book for you. I curled up with my Kindle and a cup of coffee and I didn’t move until the happily ever after was delivered. Ryan Evans is an adorable, and engaging protagonist. Marcus Troy is a recipe for dreamy, rock star perfection, with the perfect dash of realism. When Ryan finds herself as his nanny for his upcoming tour, the chemistry and anticipation abounds!
LSFTR is such a wonderful, feel good story. I pulled on remnants of Jane Eyre in this quirky love story between a young au pair and a rock star 10 years her senior. But rest easy, the only wife lurking in the shadows in this tale is a bitchy, ex one. ;) So, if you looking to spend an afternoon with a story that’ll put a goofy high school romance grin on your face, be sure to pick up a copy of Love Songs for the Road. You’ll be glad you did.
Can a nanny find love with a famous rock star while taking care of his kids? If you’re Ryan Evans, who actually got the opportunity, she’d give it a go. Marcus Troy is the rock star in question and he has two kids, a boy named Miles about 4, and a girl named Charlotte about 10. After an unorthodox job interview, Ryan gets it. And she eventually becomes quite close to Miles and Charlotte and later on Marcus himself, once they got over the “I’m his boss/I’m his nanny” syndrome. It was fun sexy and you actually want Marcus and Ryan to make a great couple minus all the trappings of celebrity. ( i.e.: groupies, managers, reporters and paparazzi, and anything else that goes with it.) Miles was an adorable wise old little kid whose sister could still make him giggle even if she was serious. But Charlotte may be just as wise and may have some fun yet. Marcus and Ryan dealt with whatever crisis that came along. It was definitely a good story that had a very nice HEA.
Ryan needs to earn money so she can go to school and had taken up a job as a nanny for the famous Marcus Troy's children while he's on tour. As Ryan and Troy's attraction start to bloom in comes people and paparazzi who turn things into what it isnt. Will Ryan be able to take the spotlight or leave Troy and his to children behind?
I enjoyed the book. I felt like Ryan is such a relate able character. She's just a women starting to get through schooling and trying to make something of herself. I liked that it wasn't such an immediate thing. This book was over the course of a summer and I liked that they didn't practically jump each other. I liked the connection between the two. I liked that there was enough drama to keep me interested. I felt that this book was fast paced and well written and I really enjoyed reading it.
A sweet, heartwarming romance. A family story, rock star meets nanny. Not a racy read. I loved the main characters. Ryan, the nanny, knows what she wants in life, and will not be swayed by a celebrity. Marcus, the rock star, is such a good dad and will do anything for his family. There is laugh out moments, Marcus in his Christmas suit, still smiling. This is a debut book by Farrah Taylor, now on my list to read her next book. I received this ARC book from the publisher for a honest review.
PG/PG13 Entangled: Bliss by Farrah Taylor - way to go, for your first book, Ms Taylor! I really liked it! Good heavens, but you made the H so sexy - how you made a rockstar sexy without being a tool is great. I loved sweet Ryan, too, the Montana Nanny. Fun story. PG to PG13. The only reason I'd flip to PG13 is because there is some swearing (Gxx d@mn once, among others), and the open mouth kissing is briefly described.) Any sex stuff is "off screen" - she wakes in his bed, etc.
This is a fantastic story! Rock star Marcus needs a nanny for his two children while on tour. Small town girl Ryan needs a summer job and being a nanny is perfect. When attraction flairs and the paparazzi get involved things get crazy! I recommend this wonderful sweet story for everyone!
Bliss to read/review. A great book loved the characters and the character development. A hot rock star with two kids and a nanny what more would you want. I would totally recommend this book and author. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Farrah Taylor.
Yes, I really stayed up until 5AM to finish this one! :) SO GOOD! Can't wait to tell you ALL about it when it's released! But for now, it's time to get a couple hours of sleep!
Love Songs for the Road is not my usual type of read, but I was in the mood to try something new. I was very pleasantly surprised! Ryan just got out of a relationship, is getting ready to start graduate school, and is looking for a summer job. Lucky for her, rock star Marcus Troy is looking for a full-time nanny for his upcoming tour. After a rough start, Ryan joins Marcus and his two kids on a tour across America. Life soon gets a lot more crazy for this small town girl, but it's worth it since she also finds love.
The romance in Love Songs for the Road is super sweet! It's not the steamy love affair that I'm use to, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. From the beginning Ryan and Marcus notice that the other is attractive, but they're determined to keep it strictly professional. However, being a major celebrity means that the rumor mill starts churning as soon as reporters see Ryan. As the weeks go by, the two get to know each other, Ryan adores the kids, Marcus loves that she's good with his kids, and things go from there. I loved the rock star angle and how the paparazzi makes things more complicated than they need to be. There's also a jealous opening act and a crazy ex-wife in the mix!
There were only two things that bothered me about Love Songs for the Road. The first was that there are two very different explanations for why Ryan's previous relationship ended. I'm not sure if this is because I read an ARC, or if it was overlooked. In case it was the former I didn't rate down for it, but it really stood out. The second thing, though, made me drop my rating, since it's something that annoys me in a lot of romances. The inevitable fight was incredibly stupid. Ryan has some legit concerns about an article written about her and Marcus essentially belittles her issue with it. Then he pulls stuff out of thin air to yell at her, which he, her, and we all know is false. It was just unnecessary and felt forced.
In the end, I did really like Love Songs for the Road. It was very cute, sweet, and fun. It was kind of nice to read a story about two down to earth people without all of the sex.
Love Songs for the Road. Farrah Taylor Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews. I do like contemporary romance, and especially ones with some kind of added extra – in this case the rock star background. Ryan needs a job, Marcus needs a nanny. I liked Ryan right from the start, when she walks out on Marcus as she feels he's not taking the interview seriously. (but to me Ryan is a boys name and every now and then I’d think “who's he?” ) She's a strong personality, sexy body and loving nature. The kids love her very quickly and Marcus has to keep telling himself “hands off” as he's embroiled in a custody battle with his ex. Marcus is a really nice guy for the Rock Star sort – they're usually played as hard drinking, hard living, uncaring and promiscuous men, but he's very sweet, loves his kids and doesn't live up to the image we usually have. It was clear he had a good relationship with his kids, and a couple of good close friends, and apart from the jerkish start, he came across as a really large-hearted man, loving father, responsible to his fans and talented musician. Perfect package :) Love though... sneaks in as it has its way....and the press and media are all eyes on Ryan. That's not what she wants, and she's worried that her upcoming university place will be affected adversely by the publicity. As the media do she's been labelled with some unsavoury names, and lots of things have been taken out of context and turned around to show her in a bad light. I enjoyed the book, its a sweet easy to read romance. I'd have liked a bit more depth though, more drama etc. All the potential factors were there, the ex, the jealous co star, the whole rock star world, but what we got was a kind of rock star romance lite...fine if that’s what you love, and perfectly well written and an easy way to lose yourself for a few hours. For me though it made the book good, but not great. Its 208 pages for £2.44 so reasonably priced. Stars: three and a half. ARC supplied via Netgalley
This is a very cute story about a rock star, a nanny, two very cute kids, and a rockin' road trip. It was a little predictable at times, but that didn't detract from its enjoyment level. And the extra bits that did not follow the norm for this type of rocker book made it that much better. This was a very nice debut by Farrah Taylor.
Right from the first couple of chapters, I instantly liked Ryan. She has a good head on her shoulders and isn't suddenly distracted by a half-naked rock star. She knows what she wants in life and she loves kids. She's funny and straight-forward. Marcus, at first, comes off a bit cliché, but then he reveals his better intentions and, once again, I found myself liking him. He's a musician at heart, who has come across difficult times with his ex-wife, but has also come into his own as a father. Plus, he oozes charisma, has a boyish charm to him, but also a tender side that's super sweet. Add to this Marcus's adorable, sneaky kids, and you get a great family dynamic with this new nanny on tour.
While Marcus and Ryan's relationship seemed a little quick to me, and could have been developed a little better, I still enjoyed watching how their dynamic played out. There was a nice feel to their banter, their attraction, their ease about each other. The age difference could have been weird, but was actually nicely played. The integration of the children was adorable. The drama was realistic and thoughtful. The romance between them was clean and sweet and a nice break from some of the more explicit reads out there. And I liked where the author took them and how things played out.
Overall, this is a nicely written, clean romance, with a refreshing play on the rocker/nanny storyline. This is a great read for the clean romance reader or anyone looking for a sweet story with great characters. It's a great way to spend an afternoon.
Love Songs for the Road by Farrah Taylor is a sweet tale of Marcus, paramedic turned rock star, and Ryan – the nanny working on her degree in early childhood. Ryan agrees to be the nanny of Marcus’s two children while he is on his ten week tour. Ryan is a small town girl who has never left her home state of Montana recommended for a position that would have her travelling the country. Taking care of kids is Ryan’s joy in life – adding the sexy dad into the mix, especially a famous one makes her nervous. They start out as mutually attracted, though not admitted employer/employee. However, when everyone in the press assumes they are seeing and sleeping with one another it is hard to have that not drive you farther apart. Instead, it draws them closer together and we find the nanny is made to be a mom and will get the chance to stay in the lives and hearts of these two precocious children and that of their father.
This is a sweet romance, with hints of sex but little explicit. It is a nice change of pace from most romance novels where all you see is the physical and little actual romance. Good writers draw you into their world and get you to care about the characters. This story does that. You will be cheering in their successes, and willing to take a swing at those who try and tear them apart. Your heart will go out to the children as they see they are little more than a pawn in their mothers’ life as she seeks out chances to hurt their father.
All in all this story is worth a read. Great work of literature, well no, but a good story to curl up under your blankets and read, imagining you were in Marcus’s arms as he lays himself bare in his song lyrics.
Marcus Troy is a famous rock star who has finally convinced the court and his ex-wife to allow him to have his kids for the summer and take them on his North American tour. The only problem now is he needs a nanny FAST. In walks wholesome twenty-five-year-old Ryan Evans. Being a nanny is nothing new to Ryan and she’s very good at what she does.
Marcus finds himself very much attracted to the younger and beautiful in every way, Ryan. To his surprise, Ryan is also attracted to him as well. But this is a forbidden love. Not only is having a relationship with his employee bad for business, Marcus must remain professional or give his ex a reason to seek full custody of the kids.
The fact that Marcus and Ryan kept going back and forth between whether or not they wanted to be in a relationship with each other was annoying. It's not really a big secret that they are attracted to each other and with Marcus' status, the media is looking for any and all kinds of juicy gossip on these two. Of course, this puts stress on their relationship.
I struggled through the first quarter of this book and had to put it down. Once I picked it back up, I continued to struggle. It wasn't until well over three quarters in that I started to really enjoy it. But once I got to that point I didn’t want to put the book down. In the end, I enjoyed watching these two realize that they cared and loved each other enough to make sacrifices for one another.
A couple of days ago I finished Love Songs for the Road by Farrah Taylor. So, I have been trying to digest my feelings about the book. I mean it was an all right read. I guess I should just dive into my thoughts.
First off, I love premise of a Rock Star falling for his nanny. I really thought there would a be a little more interaction between Marcus Troy and Ryan Evans. However, their relationship didn't really develop until closer to the end. I understand Marcus had to keep his feelings in check, but I kind of wish there was little more tension. Yes, I know that this is Bliss book and they tend to be sweet and innocent, but there wasn't really any drama that would break them up. Anyway, I did like how the story took place around Marcus's summer tour. I enjoyed how Marcus tried to keep his kids as his priority.
Overall, Love Songs for the Road has a lot of potential for being a great read. I just had a hard time getting into the story. It was a sweet story and you get to see a father's love for his children. I just wish there was a little more romance between Marcus and Ryan and maybe a little more trouble to stir the pot. However, these are just my thoughts and you are always welcome to form your own decisions. So, if you are looking for a nanny with a rock star, you might give Love Songs for the Road.
In which the feeling of disappointment over how a Bliss novel did not satisfy me is overwhelming, the mental eye rolls numbered to over a hundred, the great struggle to finish the book didn't pay off, and the only thing that worked for me, really, is the cover.
Admittedly, the premise itself didn't really grab me at all—I picked up the book mostly out of loyalty to and trust in the Bliss line—but it got to the point I was just plain desperate for that elusive spider's thread…something, anything, to spark my interest, not ire. I felt zero connection with the main characters, and later felt zero patience for them. Death flag, folks. Whatever tension there was felt a little too contrived; there was little emotion and the whole sweet romance thing was just unconvincing.
I don't understand exactly what went wrong and where it did, but this book missed its mark on me. I think the pressing need to finish it is because I can't seem to move on to any of the newer Bliss releases, even from personal favourites Snopek and Bielman, with this unfinished business hanging over my head. I'm sure it'll work with several someones, especially those who have a thing for rock star romance, but for me? I'm just relieved I can finally put this book behind me. If I had to put a label on it, I'd say it's just too NA-ish for me. At any rate, not my first Bliss strike out, and not likely to be the last.
This was such a sweet story, one I had a lot of fun reading. Probably my favourite part of the book was how Marcus was such a different character than you would expect from a rock star love interest. Marcus is this thoughtful guy who loves playing music and loves his fans, but he's not into the rocker lifestyle. He’s all about his kids and keeping them happy and safe.
The chemistry between Ryan and Marcus was really fun right from the beginning. There’s a bit of a forbidden aspect to their relationship, with Marcus going through tough custody issues and Ryan being a part of his staff. I liked how once the “forbidden” nature of their relationship was out of the way, though, there wasn’t a ton of drama between them. I liked reading about characters who not only cared for one another, but also really trusted each other. The only question to the relationship is if Ryan, a small town girl with dreams of her own, can deal with constantly being in the spotlight and judged for who she loves.
There are a lot of great aspects to this book, including the addition of the kids and seeing both characters interact with them. Seeing the progression of a romance happen while on a rock tour was another fun part of the book. Overall: a fun and sweet novel that was just what I wanted at the moment I read it.
Love Songs for the Road was a sweet and heartwarming read.
Ryan and Marcus were fun and relatable characters, they made me laugh and swoon throughout the book.
Ryan Evans has been highly recommended for the nanny position rock star Marcus Troy has advertised for. From the moment Ryan turns up for the job interview I knew this was going to be a fun read. Things don't start off very well but after some smooth talking and begging from Marcus Ryan decides to take the nanny job, afterall it was only for the Summer and the money was going to help her achieve her dream of finishing her degree :)
Love Songs for the Road was very well written, I loved seeing Marcus and Ryan slowly fall in love. They would open up to each other about their lives and finding comfort from each other.
What I also loved was seeing Marcus with his children, he's an amazing and fun loving dad. Ryan didn't have long to wait to earn the kids respect, they too fall in love with her and they even have a hand in getting her and Marcus together :)
I would recommend this book to anyone from young adult and up who loves a good contemporary romance.
Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Bliss for the ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.
I'd probably say 3 1/2 stars but since you can't give 1/2's I kept it at 3
I thought this books was a nice enough read but it wasn't all that exciting.
The characters meet, they interact, they get to know each other, there is some woe-be-me moments, they fall in love, deal with the evil exes, then they have a stupid - and totally unnecessary break up - then get back to together and live happily ever after fulfilling their dreams with all loose ends tied up with a pretty bow.
The story doesn't cause your heart to race faster, your palms to sweat or generate that "if you interrupt my reading, I'll kill you" feeling.
There was no heat between the characters and if I had to rate the content of this book it would pretty much be suitable for all as there is no "hanky-panky" (ok you know the characters have had sex etc but there is none of it "on page").
It's a sweet romance, its quick to read, and it's well written. Considering the cover price it is definitely worth a go but just don't expect some something engrossing and addictive with an extra helping of rocker drama as that is not what this book is about.
Falling in love with your nanny seems a little cliche, but rock star Marcus Troy doesn't really care how cliche it may be once he gets to know Ryan Evans. These two are a fantastic couple, but they can't be a couple because she's the nanny and he's the famous rock star. She wants a normal life, and he is constantly surrounded by press and fans. Farrah Taylor managed to keep these the central problem in their relationship without pounding on it so much that it got old or repetitive - it was constantly being reworked from a different angle - privacy, custody of the kids, different career goals - it continued to be new and different ways of looking at the same situation.
Many people threw obstacles into their path (including themselves) as they tried to find a balance, and a few almost succeeded. This was a really great book with some really sweet characters.
While this book was a sweet mild love story I felt something was lacking between the two main characters. The rock star and the nanny with a love that could rock their world didn't quite live up to the main billing as it never quite gelled for me. The big rock star who acted extremely humble for being a celebrity showed a fun side with his first encounter with Ryan when she interviewed for the nanny position. It showed a lot of promise when he chased after her to take the job but then they never really displayed true sparks and WHY he fell for her except for proximity and her caring for his kids. Not my favorite Bliss book and am hoping for better books to come from this author. I received an advanced reading copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
