This volume presents recent discoveries of pretribulation rapture passages in the early ten from Ephraim the Syrian, nine from Eusebius, four from Irenaeus, and a three-fold argument in the Didache. The passages from Ephraim and Eusebius are entirely new discoveries. The work in Irenaeus and the Didache builds on a well-known pretribulation rapture passage in each and presents a broader and stronger argument for a pretribulation rapture.
This book was interesting. I’m coming to this as a postmillenialist, reading it at the request of a Dispensational family member.
As far as the arguments, this book gets one star. They were not convincing at all to me. I added a star because the author really seems to have done thorough research and presents a scholarly resource for pre-trib dispensationalists.
All of that said, I don’t think Brainard was writing for people like me. It seemed like the main audience he had in mind are people who are already Dispensational but mid- or post-trib. So he really assumed a lot of Dispensational arguments, but honed in on the pre-trib specific arguments.
This book did make me feel even more intensely than I already did the importance of being familiar with the patristics.
A well researched book that shows the early church fathers believed in a pre trib rapture. Until now, I have believed we need to be ready to suffer or die because me may be on earth during the tribulation. I look forward to our glorification, but with the current political climate I am glad my former stance has prepared me for persecution.
Over the years I met many who were counting on the rapture so they did not need to be holy. Yet, we are told to be ready. This book shows that emphasis by our church fathers.
Those of us who believe Jesus is Lord, call on His name as our Lord and Savior are not appointed to wrath with the coming tribulation. Thank you Jesus! Doubters and apostates, when the anti Christ is revealed, woe to you beloved. Maranatha King Jesus!
