Ethan has been a bartender for half his life. His customers love him, new hires look up to him, he's paid well, and he hates every second of it. Mired in alcoholism and depression, he wants to move on but he can’t be bothered to change in order to make it happen, happy enough to live his life of cynical and witty views on people and their careers and clothes. After a chance meeting with an old flame reminds him of what could’ve been and where he’s ended up, he spirals down to rock bottom and is forced to choose between the familiar path of self sabotage or reluctantly accepting help from unlikely sources. Dark, yet humorous, Last Call is a cautionary tale about the toll the service industry takes on those who enjoy it too much, and what happens when the party never stops.
Was recommended this book by a buddy who knows the author. Really glad I was, because it was a tough read - but in a good way. A talented author makes you pause and think and investigate your circumstance. Really enjoyed.
