Hell isn’t fire and brimstone; it’s the secrets you keep.
Dahlia Prestige, pedigree, old money. What should have been a privilege felt more like slavery. A cage made up of old family secrets. Ones so terrible I was willing to sacrifice it all to keep my identical twin sister from being owned like me. My sister and I were born miracles and forced to be celebrities because of it. The media dubbed my sister as defective and myself as some kind of living perfection. If they only knew I was the truly damaged one here. If they only knew bad things can happen to miracles too. Forced to pick up the broken pieces of my life when I refused to play by their rules, I stopped living up to their delusions. When I hired David Holcomb for a night it was purely business; I wasn’t supposed to fall for the hired help.
David Heartache, lies, all the blood on my hands. Life has always been a little taste of hell. Most women could smell the troubled past on me and it made my job pretty easy. The women who hired me always seemed to think if they moaned loud enough it would silence all the bad things in my head. Except Dahlia Brewer. Maybe it was because we were using each other as some kind of freedom. She had something I needed; I didn’t know that would be her.
DISCLAIMER: Taste Of Hell is a dark romance with dark themes. It is an enemies-to-lovers, age gap, fake relationship, taboo, forbidden love, romantic suspense, dark billionaire romance. It contains no cheating and a guaranteed HEA. It mentions a transgender side character.
This book can be read as a STANDALONE in the Sin and Sinuosity series.
Elice Nange is a Contemporary and Billionaire Romance author.
Outside of writing, she enjoys spending time with her family and reading. She is also obsessed with Maya Angelou, ice cream, and the color purple ~ not necessarily in that order.
I had no idea what to expect before starting this book. I read the blurb in a rush between meetings then jumped in and started it the same day. So glad I did. Elide brought us two interesting characters that mixed well together.
Dahlia ‘Daa’ Brewer is stuck in life. She is in a perpetually one sided relationship that she can’t seem to breakout of. Que Clark, aka David, Holcomb. The cure to what Dahlia never knew she was looking for. Watching them together is like watching oil being dropped into an already hot pan. Instant boiling.
Where it lost a star for me was a few places where the story felt forced. Also, it was weirdly tame. Based on the title and the cover, I expected a lot more steam! Mildly disappointing on that front. Also, this may seem small, but David’s age does not match the character. I can see what the author was trying to do and she even highlights that he seems older than he is. . . But it still seems forced rather that having a ring of truth.
Dark Romance read. Billionaire, enemies to lovers, second chance, pregnancy (but not in the normal way)
Thoughts: 😈I loved it, it was the best dark romance I’ve read in a long time. Dark romance is hard to get right, because it has to have a good balance. I knew 80% through I was going to give it 5⭐️s. 😈Very well written, it was easy to connect with the characters. 😈Dahlia is a woman in love with a man who will never love her back, and it takes getting super angry to get her to want to change her relationship with him. 😈David is a dark character who knows what he wants and what he likes. But he has ulterior motives, when it comes to his relationship with Dahlia. He has a pretty dark family past, and her family has major issues as well. 😈David is dark, but in all the best ways. He loves her and is obsessed with her and the feelings are pretty mutual. 😈There is a bit of mystery to the book. There is someone who wants to mess with Dahlia’s life and we aren’t really sure who it is. 😈Their relationship starts out a bit of a contract relationship and both know that it won’t evolve any further than a physical relationship, but we all know how that works out in books. 😈It is a bit of a slow burn for Dahlia and David. There are a lot of hints that there will be some VERY steamy senes in the book, but nothing until about 50% through. 😈I REALLY don’t like the relationship between her and her twin’s partners. They are downright hostile towards her and we don’t really get to see why. They also never improve their relationship.
Holy cow🤯 This book was soo good. Talk about secrets, lies , deceit. This was so f’d up on soo many levels. It kept me on my toes through out the whole book wanting to know more and the BOOM talk about the bomb dropping. You know how in some books you just know what’s going to happen like you know it’s coming. I did not expect the stuff to come forward as it did. The bedroom scene was spicy 🌶️ 🌶🌶but the overall WOW factor was way better. Sooo good! You literally feel all emotions reading this at least I did. Really enjoyed this novel.
I received an ARC of Taste of Hell and this is my honest review of the book.
This was the debut for Elice and let me just say that she did not disappoint at all! I will say to please check out the Trigger Warnings that are mentioned in the beginning of the story. I absolutely loved reading the story for David and Dahlia (Daa). This is a Standalone book and is part of the Sin and Sinuosity Series. I highly recommend reading this story. I can not wait to read more from Elice and reading more from this series. Amazing job Elice!
Thank you Elice Nange for the advanced copy of Taste of Hell. These are my honest thoughts.
Dahlia Brewer is one half of the infamous Brewer Twins who run a slew of medical practices in Rochester and are doctors themselves. Curtis is the heir to the McWhorter family legacy and has been with Dahlia for nearly 20 years. At 34 years old Dahlia finds herself pregnant with Curtis’ baby and unhappy in her life the way things have always been. Then, in comes David Holcomb. David is a 24 year old male escort with a past and present full of secrets, and a desire to find out more about his early years. It was never supposed to BE anything, they signed a “sex contract” and agreed upon an end date to their arrangement. Neither one of them expected events to unfold the way they did or for their relationship to wind up meaning so much more than just the physical attraction. This book was FULL of secrets and twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, but they left me wanting to keep turning the page to see what was going to happen next. The relationship between Dahlia and David was spicy and they had an interesting and fiery connection from the get go. I really enjoyed reading about the two of them both separately and together with the dual POV chapters. They both had been through some difficult times in life and it was beautiful to see them actually lean on someone else and grow from it
Will Dahlia be able to step away from the status quo that her life has become and find happiness elsewhere? Will David find the answers that he has been searching for? Will they find their happiness together or apart? You’ll have to read Taste of Hell to find out how their story shapes up! Taste of Hell is the first book in the Sin and Sinuosity series.
Main Tropes: Billionaire Reverse Age Gap (she’s 10 years older) Lots of kinks Dark Romance Enemies to Lovers
Devastation, perfection, brokenness, and love can't be measured but sometimes they can be felt between the pages of this book. Trying to hold back the feels as you read this just can't be done. Hoping for Dahlia to find her HEA with David is the best thing in the world as I followed them on their journey. Unveiling their faults, watching them shore each other up, and building a love for all time is utter perfection.
Dahlia has been in love with Curtis for over 20 years. Days before their wedding, he breaks her heart by saying he doesn't love her and calling her by another woman's name at a critical time. She is totally devastated and makes the decision to leave him at the altar as she is standing at the top of the church's aisle. She runs away and lays a false trail that everyone falls for except for one man, Clark "David" Holcomb. David is after information that he can only obtain from Dahlia through old records she and her twin sister inherited with their purchase of a medical practice. There is a catch though. He must use his sexual prowess to get closer to Dahlia and finagle what he needs. The signed contract between Dahlia and David may have started out as a means to an end but when faced with reality, emotions are the one thing that neither of them planned on. How do you turn feelings off and make the right decisions that will benefit everyone around you in the end?
As soon as i found out about this book i wanted to read it! Knowing it was a debut had me looking forward to it even more! I picked it up and got right into the Sin and Sinuosity world! I so enjoyed this story!
Dahlia and David's journey captured my attention quickly! As Dahlia and David paths cross, can it be everything? or will the flames consume them both?
Going into this story i didn't quite know what all to expect and I so enjoyed the way this story and it's characters had me on the edge of my seat. I really liked how both Dahlia and David both pulled me in and the way their story was different.
From start to finish, i felt so much with both Dahlia and David! I wasn't sure how these two would tackle things in their lives, everything between them, and thrown their way which got me into their story even more.
With Taste of Hell, Ms.Nange has created such a good and dark debut! I am so looking forward to getting more from this author and world with the second installment, Touch of Heaven!
Be sure to read the author's foreword.
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from the author*
This book follows Dahlia and David who start dating with alternative reasons. Dahlia’s life has been planned since before she was born and after 30 years she is ready for a change and to finally do something she wants to. David is younger than Dahlia and is a billionaire 😈. He also has lived a life in his young life and lives the way that he knows. I have to say this was such a good read and am excited for any other books that will come for this series. Check TWs prior to reading.
Such a great book for a debut author! I instantly fell in love with the passion and mystery from David and Daliah. I do think that when I first started reading it all the D names started to intertwine and make it slightly difficult until you read more about each character.
I do believe this book as quite a bit of "fluff", there were times where I was asking myself is this extra information or tons of personal dialogue really necessary? I believe some of it could be cut back and the book would still flow and make easier read.
I love the plot, the personalities of the characters, and how the author took us into the world of not one love story but several and opened the readers eyes to several possibilities around intimacy. I can't wait for more from this author because this was a great read, just some minor things that could be worked on for future books. Truly a book I'd love to get a hard copy of for my bookshelf!
I'll start by saying that anytime it's a debut from an author, I always wonder what to expect and if I'm going to love it. Taste of Hell was brilliant and a fabulous debut. I love dark romance, and Elice Nange absolutely knocked this one out of the park. I'm always a sucker for a good, enemies to lovers, as well as second chance. Taste of Hell was everything and more. I was hooked from the very beginning and was sad when it was over. I can't wait to see what the author has in store for us in the future.
Oh my goodness oh my goodness oh my goodness! I wish I had more words to describe how much I loved the story. I’m into a lot of dark romance and this story did not disappoint! This is my first book from this author, and I will definitely be reading more in the future! David is everything that you want in an alpha-hole & I love me that strong, female, main character energy that the twins give off! I can’t wait to read Delilah’s book.
I thought this was a very intriguing read. The author wastes no time in showing you that this is going to be an emotionally intense and twisty tale that is going to test your own emotions and force you to think along the way. The story captured my attention quickly and the characters are quite complex. One thing is for sure, David and Dahlia's story did not disappoint. This is my freely posted, frank review.
Captured me from the cover. A beautiful standalone romantic suspense filled with family secrets & blackmail. There was a bit of taboo and fake relations that all added to the beauty of the book entertainment and enjoyability. It was a page turner and filled with lots of steamy bits that could leave your cheeks colored. Definitely recommend.
This book was sent to me as an ARC but all opinions are my own, genuine thoughts.
I would like to start this review by saying, I LOVED this book. 5/5 stars for me. In the beginning, it was a semi-slow burn as the first ~50% was the laying the groundwork for the characters and the plot. However, at 47%... I was HOOKED. I read the last 53% of the book in 2 days (just because I physically couldn't keep my eyes open).
Without giving any spoilers.. I cannot stand Curtis and his family. At the end of the book, Elice makes it known that Curtis is not meant to be likeable and I stand by that 1000%. I quite frankly, hated him.
This book's tropes are the following: billionaire romance, fake relationship, taboo romance, age gap, morally grey characters, and forbidden love.
If one of those tropes interest you, I would definitely recommend this book.
I am so excited to read book 2 of this series, Touch of Heaven, which is out now on Kindle Unlimited and elsewhere!
I went into this book blindly, not knowing what to expect.
However, David and Dahlia captured my attention fast!! I loved how different both of these characters were. I just wish David was a little older as his age didn’t fit her actions and personality in my honest opinion.
I loved that David was everything that Dahlia needed and wanted and vise Versa.
This was well written for a debut author and what a way to start this series. I need Delilah’s book ASAP!! Congratulations Elice, you rocked it girl!! 🖤🖤
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest and willing review.
Holy. Sh**.
I will be honest, I chose to review this book after looking at the average rating and though ‘eh, new author why not.’
Elice… I was not prepared to not be able to put this book down. I was so invested in Dahlia and David’s story together and individually that I literally couldn’t put this down. I stayed up late to finish it.
Dahlia has been dealt some CARDS.
Read. Your. Trigger. Warnings.
There are… a few. This is definitely dark romance in its essence.
Age gaps, forced marriage, smex workers, mafia vibes, and so much more all bundled in to this fast-ish read.
I’m happy I chose to read this book because it was a wild ride.
Here’s a few of my favorites; • morally grey mister David. • age gap but the FMC is the older of the two 🥵 • how dislike-able Curtis is. Great writing, honestly. • that not every relationship is perfect and the FMC isn’t just some bimbo who needs saving.
My only gripes are; • the pacing is a little odd in some places • there’s a few plot holes or missing pieces to the stories. • I wanted more!!! It ended… kind of flat? But the story was still good and the ending worked, just not what I wanted. 😂
“I don’t know what’s in here, but it’s yours. It’s always been yours. Same as what’s in there,” I point to her heart, “is mine.”
For a debut author, it is an amazing story and I was so intrigued, but the execution is a tad clunky and some things are really worth editing out.
There are some sentences that are pretty much the same, like describing the bath as “a fifty gallon, porcelain coated cast iron claw foot tub with bronze features and an elegant shape. Has everything I could need. Added bonus of being big enough for two”. There are a few sentence starters that are different but otherwise the paragraph is almost exactly the same. The second time, it really should just be called the tub and leave out all the details.
There’s a few more examples of this where there is repeats, and it just makes you think “hang on did I loose my page no go back” which is disruptive to the reading. Listen to the book on audio (you can get Siri or Alexis to read it to you) and you’ll notice the repeated sentences far more.
The cover highlights way more spice than what it has. I’d say it’s a 2 or 3 in the spice department. And some of the secrets were held but then released so slowly it was like it wasn’t a secret to begin with. Even the title point s towards something darker but the dark elements were wrapped in a pretty bow somehow and didn’t feel that dark.
I have the next book, and I’m excited to see how the MMF will go with Dahlia’s twin. Well done for jumping in the author world, there are great things coming for you :)
BOOK: Taste of Hell AUTHOR: Elice Nange PLOT: Dahlia and her identical twin sister are doctors who run multiple medical practices in Rochester. Delilah was seen as defective and Dahlia was seen as the perfect golden child. Her family decided that Dahlia and Curtis McWhorter were to be married in the future. Curtis is the heir to the McWhorter family legacy. Dahlia's family has some seriously dark secrets of their own, and she's tempted to tell them in order to keep Delilah from having to face a life of captivity like Dahlia has to. Dahlia and Curtis were together for 20 years, and when she turned 34, she found out she was pregnant with Curtis's child. She decides to end their engagement and cancel their wedding because he's adamant that he doesn't love her and never has. She saves face and acts like the marriage is still on, but then she hires David for a bit of "s3x therapy." It wasn't supposed to be anything more than business when she signed the "s3x contract" with him, but she ended up falling for him. Will Dahlia find the courage to break free from the life that people expect her to live? Will David be able to find the answers he seeks about his past? Will they be able to find a happily ever after together, or will they end up parting ways? This book was spicy, dark, suspenseful... I LOVED it!!!! This book made me an instant fan of Elice, and now I have to read everything she puts out!
Unconventional, dark, revelatory, and fantastic; easy 4.5 stars The story starts strong, flags a little for a few chapters because of the thinking and talking but picks up and then BAM! This book becomes a page-turner. Just when I thought I had a handle on the direction the story was going, a twist appears. Loved it! Dahlia Brewer is 34yo and pregnant with the baby of her adored Curtis. When she proclaims her love, he proclaims his lack of it. Well, that wasn’t how Dahlia expected the evening to go. This was the night she was going to tell the love of her life that they were going to have a baby. To get over her disappointment (and more) she is pushed to have an affair with Clark David Holcomb, a 24yo escort. You know what they say, when a horse throws you, get back on. The falling dominoes as a result of their liaison will be an unbelievable tale to tell. There are despicable people, wonderful ones, and others you’ll want to see eliminated. The secrets that are brought to light will astonish and some are just too poignant. The ending is pure magic and the epilogue is very touching. The Foreward, which can be seen by clicking on the cover will describe circumstances that may bother some readers. They did not bother me. If you like unique stories with surprises galore, you will want to read this one. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens.
This story took a direction i was totally not expecting pretty much from the start and i was not left disappointed it was so good!
Elice managed to create such an amazing back story throughout telling a story itself which gave each individual situation Dahlia found herself in more background and meaning. Showing how all life twists and turns had lent themselves to these very moments. It had you on the edge of your seat in moments and then trying to reach for the tissues. There was a variety of topics covered in the story which are treated with so much care but also giving them the light and platform they deserve.
David and Dahlias "none relationship - relationship" aka the contract is exactly that until it isnt but it isnt quite all as it seems either.
When hidden motives have been revealed, hidden players shown true colours, ex's shown their hand and hurricane dahlia let loose what is in store for the main characters and where will they be standing when it all comes to an end ?
Lord the levels of kink and underlying fetish is hot as hell and next level on its own...Welcome to Hell!...(where do i sign up)
Loved this story and would definitely recommend to others. Cant wait for book 2 within the series and more work from Elice.
OMG!!! Fantastic book and it was a page turner and the suspense was WOW!!! I was at the edge of my seat and I could not stop reading this story. People always money is the root of all evil. They all know it but the McWhorter Family were a powerful family who had rich money. So Andrea and her brother Matthias they were spoiled adults who parents gave them ever thing and they did not had to work for a living. So Andrea was the type of person can manipulate her own best friend of suggested him of having children with him as she promised. But this was very IVF treatments were very expensive but she had the money. Andrea ending up have two beautiful twin girls. And there were a lot of drama , manipulate, and this was and action packed. What is going to happen next? Will Andrea give up the twin girls to her best friend? Or will she raise them her self. Andrea morals were disfunctional and she no right to play her best friend life. Everybody emotions was off the chart and there were going to some drama about to be started up all the characters that who is involved. This book was great. If you love sin and maipulate. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Trina Jones
The amount of secrets and lies that were in this book is insane. I thought it was going to be at least a little bit predictable it was NOT.
This book was very good. The author made me fall in love with so characters, hate other and want to punch some. I'm pretty sure every single character needs actual therapy 😭.
Dahlia is such a strong admirable person. She lived such an unhappy life for years just to protect her sister. David is an angel that lived in hell. This man was actually such a sweet and good man. He went through a lottttt growing up. I would say Dahlia and David saved each other. With him Dahlia learned what it was like to be completely worshipped and he learned how to be loved properly.
I truly have a soft spot for this couple. Their relationship was slow which just made their feelings grow deeper. Let's now even talk about the spicy scenes. I would go to hell just for a hour with David.
One thing i can say about this author is that they are going to leave you wanting and begging for more. There was a couple of stuff that we didn't get an answer to which might seem as a plot hole (cause I thought it was 😭) but all those questions WILL be answered in other books.
Not my favorite, not going to lie. I am halfway through this novel and I have to say I am most likely going to give this book a 3 star review. I totally agree with another review, regarding Dee's boyfriends treatment of Daa they're mean for no reason, or at least in my opinion any real or true reason. They keep saying that she's judgmental because she doesn't approve of their relationship, but I think that she's just worried and looking out for her sister, at the end of the day they only have each other. Also if she were truly judgmental then she would not have approved of Dee and Simone's relationship, so I call BS on this being the reason they don't like her. They're outright hostile to her and the fact that her sister doesn't stop that makes me dislike her all the more.
I am hoping that David's and Daa's relationship makes up for the other parts that are lacking, if it improves I will raise my review to 4 or 5 stars, but as of right now this is my honest review.
I loved this book more than I thought I would! It went in depth and not only that but it was never ending with the surprises. I honestly didn't know what was going to happen next. This is a dark romance with an enemies to lovers vibe going on. There is pregnancy but it isn't like anything that I have read before. I usually try to stay away from anything with pregnancy but this was different in a good way.
This book touched base with a lot of things that I haven't read about yet. It is slow burn during the beginning which built up the suspense for everything else. Check trigger warnings before reading. So much drama, suspense and emotions! I loved this book and can't wait for the others in the Sin and Sinuosity series!
"Hell isn’t fire and brimstone. It’s the monsters lurking in your soul."
Okay, so Elice Nange is a new-to-me author, and I thought “Taste of Hell” was a really good debut!!! It’s a reverse age gap billionaire romance, and while the beginning was a little slow, I knew I had to know how it ended! We have Dahlia Brewer, a thirty four year old woman who has just left her fiancé at the altar. And then we have Clark “David” Holcomb, a darkly seductive billionaire who is ten years her junior. These two agree to a strictly physical relationship, but the more time they spend together, the more those rules begin to bend. I thought Dahlia was incredibly strong, and I loved watching her confidence grow over the course of the novel. David, on the other hand, oozed charm, but there is so much more to him than the arrogantly charming mask he wears. To sum this up, I thought this book was good, and I will be reading the next book in the series.
Dahlia has the perfect life, by all outward appearances. She's been with Curtis for 20 years and she's going to marry him. But he's in love with another woman.
Will Dahlia tough it out and live her perfect life or will she give it all up for a taste of hell and a deal with the devil?
This one jumped around a lot and was confusing at times, but other than that it was a good book.
There are a lot of diverse characters and sexualities represented in this book, which I love. While there is some spice, I wouldn't say there's a ton of it. I would give it 2 🌶. The characters are well developed and overcoming a lot of childhood trauma and dealing with mental health issues. In the end I still have a lot of questions and I hope they are answered in the next book.
This book was such a surprise. I'm not sure what I was expecting after reading the initial blurb. I was thinking it was all about kink.
But there was very little kink. I was at first disappointed but then the story took over and I was hooked.
I'm not into lots of talk and self examination. But I really wanted to know what the story of Dahlia was about. And then meeting David and his reasoning for wanting to seduce Dahlia was all it took for me to want to read every word.
Yes they both loved sex but there was so much more. How they both overcame the difficulties in their lives makes for engrossing reading.
The bonus Xmas story definitely added a little more kink than the book. It also introduced lots of characters that made me want to read the next in the series.
My Thoughts Taste Of Hell has really well written characters. They're complicated, complex and so intriguing, I devoured this book in less than 2 days!
In the beginning it was a cute little slow burn moment but halfway point... It picked up
You will LOVE this book if you're a fan of drama, smut, interesting characters and a GREAT storyline.
It's a book that keeps you guessing with a little spice, plot twists and some crazy drama. - Bring tea to sip.
Can't wait to read book two which is available now! Ps.. They're both on KU 😘
Thank you to @katieandbreypa and @elicenange for the opportunity to be on tour and my gifted copy.
This was a long drawn out book that jumped around a lot. A great deal of things in the book did not make sense and were just plain confusing. There were a lot of medical jargon thrown around and some of the characters didn't fit the story. Dahlia seemed like a total pushover and I would liked to have seen her as a stronger, independent woman learning to deal with her panic attacks. She let Curtis and his parents walk all over her, even knowing what they were like in the past. I will probably read the next one but am hoping it flows more smoothly and explains some things better than this book did.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
