Having only the verve to get through the first few chapters, the book feels so scattershot as to want to completely give up learning a new language.
Words, grammar, structure is thrown at you at such a rapid pace as to be unlearnable. At times, I feel like i'm being talked down to and other times it feels like i'm being taught at from such a lofty place, that I could never hope to learn Spanish. I bought this on clearance for a dollar when the competing brick and mortar bookstore was going out of business, and on a lark, snapped this tome up.
There are better, more established books for sale from companies that are tried and true.
Between this book and my intensive audio Spanish cds I've been listening to while commuting to work every day, I've immersed myself in trying to learn Spanish the past couple months. So far, I still freeze when I try to actually speak Spanish to people I come across at work but I'm actually beginning to understand a little (very little) of what I hear and some of what I read.
i got this at the overstock bookstore and it was pretty good. i wouldnt use it as a beginner- its great though if youre looking for a refresher course. really easy to get through and a lot of stuff for travelling. explains the verbs and their tenses really well.
Good for a quick review, but there are some mistakes in this book that could cause problems for someone starting to learn the language. Watch for errors in conjugations.
