2.5 ⭐️

I hoped this was going to be better than the first one. It was more part suspense (at least the first 30-40% of the book) combined with them getting secured into their relationship and finding a safe place for planting their roots and growing their family. Not as dark as the first one, the conflict with his father resolved in the last 10% of the book. Bam wam, and he was gone, of course, after trying again to SA again the poor heroine.

The first part of the book gave me vibes of a 90s suspense / thriller movie, with the main couple having to run away from the bad guys, switching cars, dangerous motels, etc., etc. It was quite entertaining 😁🤭.

There was spice, but a few scenes were quite awkward and cringey, in the sense of the used terminology (the FMC is using the term "starfish", mkay!? 😬🤦‍♀️ I'll let you guys guess what she's referring to 😂). A few of the things they tried were also awkward!!? I don't know, the scenes fell flat and were mostly rushed.

Their support system was better in this book, their family and new and old friends being interesting.

The jealousy bursts the MMC had were quite annoying sometimes, especially since she truly forgave him after the awful wedding night they had. Considering this, all the jealousy didn't make sense since it was clear she was head over heels for him only, as was he!

The epilogue was cute, though. ☺️

⚠️ There are still some TW, mostly for violence and the attempt SA at the end of the book, so tread carefully.

⚠️ This is not a standalone. It's the 2nd part of a duet!

Chasing Storm is the second and final part of the Storm duet series.

I’m afraid I was slightly disappointed by it, mainly because I had really high expectations after the first book. There was chasing and action but there was no longer agony to see how the relationship between Tea & Joey would develop and that didn’t excite me. I could put the book down and wasn’t eager to go back and find out what’s happening next. It felt as if the focus was mainly on the various sexual stuff the couple tried (some of which I found cringey tbh). I also didn’t like the way Tea reacted to Joey’s wishes without considering her own; it’s as if her personality was less strong than the one we were introduced to in the beginning of the story. And the end felt slightly rushed. Overall, it didn’t feel like a dark romance.

The book is written in first person, dual POV. Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.

I’m so glad there wasn’t a big gap before we got the second instalment because the first book finished on a pretty big cliffhanger. This would have been a 3⭐️ for be but I just couldn’t ignore how good a job the author has done to get me so invested in the characters.

Overall it was a good read, I’m glad I took the time to find out how things ended for our characters. We saw some reasonable character development on Joeys part although I did feel like this was a little superficial at times and would have liked to have seen that explored more. There was less peril in this book and maybe that’s why the pace felt a bit off, it also seemed to end rather abruptly though I’m glad things went the way they did.

The spicy scenes felt a bit less natural in their placement within the story this time round. Some of them were shaping up as though they were going to be an opportunity to show some growth and boundary pushing but then fell a little flat. I love spice as much as the next girl but it’s got to bring something to the story for me and it didn’t always feel as though that was the case here. Also, I’m going to say it, some will disagree but… starfish. I really struggled with some of the terminology and that had a massive impact on my ability to read those scenes.

I really loved the exploration into our side characters, I’m a little bit in love with Sean and it was nice to see more of him.

It was great to hear how things turned out for our MCs and it was an enjoyable read but unfortunately didn’t quite live up to the first book for me.

Thank you so much to booksirens and the author for this ARC, all views expressed are my own.

Chasing Storm is the second installment in the Storm Duet series. To understand the events that take place in this book, you'd need to read the first book Breaking Storm.

What I love most about a good series, or in this case, a duet, is character development. Both as individuals, and as a couple! In this read we continue on the tumultous journey that Teagan and Joey find themselves on. Their love for each other is seemingly all they have whilst we embark with them on their escape from the Chicago Underworld. Despite what Fate had in store for them, they are so hell bent on writing their own destinies that I couldn't help but fall head over heels for this Author and her penmanship. An everlasting love crumbles any ol' walls around my heart.

Throw in all the spicy scenes and my life is complete. I mentioned in my review of the first read, Breaking Storm, that Joey has a filthy mouth! And honestly, this is so great- the way he describes what he wants to do to our girl had me reading with one hand only! 😉 (If ya know what I mean). And I admire a strong willed FMC, and Teagan is most resilient.

The chemistry in these books between the main characters, character development, wonderful storyline, as well as the banter and steam in the sheets is my reason for five star rating.

Hungry for more from this indie Author!

P.s; keep your toys charged!

Jumping right back into the heart-pounding aftermath of the first book's cliffhanger, this sequel, a continuation of the duet, kicks off with non-stop action from page one. Joey and Teagan find themselves on the run after discovering a dangerous hit has been targeted at Joey. No matter where they go, staying hidden proves to be an elusive feat. Yet, Joey is determined to ensure Teagan's safety, and Teagan steadfastly refuses to leave Joey's side, even in the face of imminent danger.

I absolutely adored this book, much like its predecessor. Joey and Teagan are a duo that's simply irresistible. Their dedication to each other, the unbreakable bond of love, and the palpable affection they share are unparalleled. The storytelling is top-notch, and the way the characters are developed is nothing short of beautiful. Their chemistry is off the charts, and I found myself blushing through the perfectly placed steamy scenes that added an extra spark to the plot.

The relationships with side characters, like Sean and Joey's mom, added a touching layer to the narrative. The twists and turns kept the story at a riveting pace, maintaining the action-packed vibe almost throughout the entire book. There are relationships tested, shattered, and some that bloom unexpectedly. My only wish is that there could have been a bit more justice served on James; it felt like he got off with less than he deserved.

Denise wraps up this duet with a perfect little bow, delivering a surprise ending that truly melts my heart. This book deserves a solid five stars for its engaging story, beautifully developed characters, and seamless blend of action, romance, and unexpected twists.

A Thrilling Conclusion to a Dark and Intense Duet

📚 In Chasing Storm by Denise Baer, the gripping saga of Teagan and Joey continues as they find themselves embroiled in a desperate battle for survival against the unforgiving underworld of Chicago and beyond.

🌪️ Teagan and Joey, bound by a forced marriage orchestrated by their fathers, are determined to break free from the clutches of their tumultuous past. But when one gang leader dies and the other vanishes, leaving a black market hit on Joey's life, their dreams of escape are shattered.

🥊 Baer masterfully crafts a tale of resilience, sacrifice, and undying love as Teagan and Joey confront every obstacle thrown their way. From dodging criminal elements to evading crooked law enforcement, their journey is fraught with danger at every turn.

🔥 The chemistry between Teagan and Joey simmers with intensity, their bond forged in the crucible of adversity. As they race against time to outrun their pursuers and carve out a future together, their love proves to be their greatest weapon.

🌟 Chasing Storm delivers on its promise of heart-pounding suspense, heart-wrenching emotion, and pulse-pounding action. Baer's evocative prose draws readers deeper into the gritty underworld, where loyalty is tested, alliances are forged, and the line between right and wrong blurs.

🔗 This thrilling conclusion to the Storm Duet is a must-read for fans of romantic suspense. With its gripping plot, well-drawn characters, and explosive twists, Chasing Storm will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very last page.

This whole series is just amazing as of far. I was intantly hooked in the first book and was excited to see that book 2 was available as well. If you are a fan of Mafia, Suspense Romance, or anything along those lines this series is for you.

I want to start off by saying that you do have to read book 1 to understand book 2 as this is an ongoing series. In book one you follow Joey and Tegan who are arranged to be married by their fathers to have a stronger alliance in the streets. Joey has always had a crush on Tegan so was okay with the marriage. However Tegan has a boyfriend and is not happy with the marriage at all. Things get worse when on their wedding night Joey makes a decision that pushes Tegan away. But when Tegan finds out the reason, will she forgive him and learn to love Joey or will she hate him forever? Then there is the ending and oh boy did I pick up book 2 quickly. I had to know what was going to happen between the two and how everything was going to end. In book two you follow Joey and Tegan trying to escape all the madness and catch a break. That is not as easy as it seams. No matter how much they want to part from it all and get away it always seems to follow. There is a lot more spice in this book compared to book 1. Joey is trying to get a hold of himself but seems he can't contain himself from Tegan and Tegan continues to grow into a strong woman. Even though she was already one in book 1 she just keeps growing and supporting Joey.

I recommend this book to anyone who like the suspense or even Mafia vibes even though this is a street fighter romance book it still gives off the Mafia Romance vibes.
Can't wait to read more from this author.

❤️ "Joey has become my life. A man draped in danger yet who treats me like a queen. And not just any queen, but his queen. I've never been anyone's anything, let alone queen. He's my lifeline, and it doesn't matter if our lives are cut short."

I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion and review. Chasing Storm is book #2 in the storm duet, written in dual POV. Breaking Storm, book #1, ended on a cliffhanger and well... I couldn't put this book down to see how this was going to end. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the shoe to drop, just like everyone else. I love how possessive Joey is of Teagan, even if his jealousy was over the top sometimes - he had good intentions, he loves hard and I knew his actions in Breaking Storm were out of character for him. I thought Teagan was a strong character, even though she's been through a lot she stood by Joey's side. I loved the ending - and I also love epilogues that go a few years ahead, super cute!

Found Family
Tea can stand in this world just fine. She really started coming into her own in this one. She was born into this world and made her place in it on her terms. There will never be anyone else for Joey other than Tea now.
I didn’t always agree with Joey’s actions or mannerisms. He grew up in a harsh world. You can’t always judge the world of a book by your reality. No excuse for him of course. I did like that he was always willing to talk about things. He listened and knew he had things to work on. Growth.
This book didn’t have any of the back and forth pacing as the last one did. It did have several smaller time jumps, but it flowed easier for me than the previous one. I connected better with Joe and Tea in this book. They were a unit in this one. A true couple.
I’m so glad we got to check in with all of the side characters and see their happily ever afters in Joey & Teagan’s lives. Kara, Sean, and Erin are my favorite of course. I’m still not sure if I’ll ever be ok with Tea’s brother again.
I’d love a book in the future about Elijah. There is so much there to unpack still.

After reading Breaking Storm (book 1), I appreciated that we didn’t have to wait forever for the follow-up. There is nothing worse sometimes than having to wait to get to the conclusion of a story.

Joey and Teagan, yet again, find themselves in some tough situations, but always have their ‘core’ families/friends to rely on. This young newlywed couple seems to find themselves in more entanglements than one throughout their lifespan. I had difficulty reading this book in spots, not because of any possible trigger warning issues, but because of the flow/plotline. To me, this book is read more with a vignette style than a flowing storyline. In reading this way, I felt I was being sucked out of the whole story at certain spots. Despite this issue, I did want to read and see what happened to these characters, even if I wasn’t fully invested at times.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love epilogues. Just to get that little extra peek at those characters lives. This one is no different, so kudos on gifting us with this look.

Breaking Storm: 4/5
Chasing Storm: 3/5
Overall: 3.5/5

Even though I didn't love the first book in this duet, the cliffhanger had me needing to know how it would end. Sadly, this book didn't garner much more from me. I liked it enough but it took me a bit to finish it. I kept putting it down.

I was hoping Teagan would evolve more into a stronger MFC and unfortunately she fell flat for me. She was stubborn and never really assertive for herself. She acted childish and put herself in danger time and time again. Growing up the way she did, you would think she would have a little more common sense.

Joey grew throughout the books for me, but he won't be a memorable book boyfriend.

I loved the premise of this duet however the execution fell a little flat for me. The abrupt ending gave us what we needed but felt rushed and missing just a little more substance.

All in all, the duet was alright just not something I loved.

🖤ARC REVIEW🖤

OOOOOOOO the spice is spicying? in the second book. Very much hot & heavy. Joey is learning to tame himself, but Tea keeps growing stronger. If she didn’t want to she wouldn’t. The repetitive POVs are gone! This book flows a lot better than the first and is more in depth! Joey and Tea give in to a more adventurous side of things 🥵. I lowkey love how unhinged Joey is for Teagan. Like, I don’t know maybe I need therapy, but I dig it. There’s a sprinkle of found family in here and it makes me so happy. THE TWISTS IN THIS BOOK! Elijah??? AH. The epilogue 🥹.

My only disgruntle: it almost felt rushed, but not rushed? Idk what I would call it, but overall I would recommend.

💀Always check TWs before reading💀

Intense. Suspenseful. Intoxicating.

Teagan and Joey just cannot catch a break. But together, I'm hoping these two can catch a Happily Ever After!

Their friends, old and new are amazing, and so supportive!

I love the sacrifice Joey was willing to make! I'm glad for Teagan's fortitude!

Elijah...love him too and hope he and Erin get their own story! Well, yeah, if you haven't guessed, I need more of Joey and Teagan too! I'm happy to follow Sean and Micah around for a bit too!

I really didn't want to put this down!

I loved every single feel Ms. Baer enticed from me!

I will definitely be checking out her other work, and stalking her!

Exciting conclusion

This is the second book in Miss Baer’s duet.
This book gave me a thrilling ride throughout the pages of this hard and deep love story.

Joey and Tea fight to get out from under the rule of a dark underworld. The deep love they have made my heart hurt and also leap for joy. They crave a normal life and they fight for every moment. The side characters round out the romantic pair.
You have to read this beautifully painful love story!! There is a car chase that spins you around to make you feel like you’re experiencing the ride yourself!! And a surprise twist I never saw coming.
It’s ssoooo good!!!!

OMG! I absolutely loved this second part of this Duet with Chasing Storm, this story had been fantastic and the characters Teagan and Joey continues. The became lovers in the underworld. There is so many twist and turns, action, danger, drama, pain, abuse, I cried so much emotions. She has always wanted children after she got her degree, and he wanted to give her the world will they remain as married Or will they separate!.

Book 2 carried us on Joey and Tea's journey.

The spice level jumps up and talk about hooot. The love Joey has for Tea is something I enjoyed reading.

The multiple POV is so great to read from each others thoughts and feelings and you can't help but fall for this couple.

All the secondary characters make this story a well rounded journey.

The epilogue was fantastic and I closed the book feeling complete which is what I love as a reader.

A fantastic duet by this author. Well done!

I enjoyed this book however not as much as I enjoyed the 1st instalment - I did like getting to see more of our main characters and see how thing ended for them.

Some of the spicier scenes felt a little forced and just added in for the sake of “spice” whereas it was more of a natural development in the first book (as much as it could have been with the way they were brought together)

Overall I enjoyed the series and would read more from this author in the future.

This is my third book I’ve read by Denise Baer and I’ve enjoyed them all! Chasing Storm is a continuation of Teagan and Joey’s story and part of the Storm duet series.
After being forced into marriage by their fathers, Teagan and Joey find love and escape Chicago’s criminal underworld. Both Teagan and Joey’s lives are not easy. There are multiple attempts on their lives and they have to continue to fight to survive to be free. Find out at end of the book if they survive or if James finally catches up to them! Love the ending!

After that ending in Breaking Storm I have been sitting on pins and needles waiting for Chasing Storm and it didn't disappoint! Joey and Teagan's story continues and even though there's not quite as angst in this one as the first, the growth in these characters is fantastic, the storyline flows seamlessly and I easily got lost in their journey. This author has been one of my top ten discoveries thus year and I can't wait to delve into what she brings next.

This picked up with Teagan and Joey’s madness, running away from the dangers of Mafia life. I enjoyed the flow of the book, especially Joey, I found Teagan a little boring and Childress. I would recommend this duet and think Denise has a great writing talent. There was plenty of spice, much more than book one and I enjoyed the epilogue as it gave closure. Great continuation of Teagen and Joey's story. I really enjoyed Part Two of this fantastic duet. Although there is not quite as much angst as in the first installment it was still a rollercoaster ride that kept me turning the pages. Who would have thought that our MCs relationship would transform so beautifully into this fierce and indestructible love - considering how they started. Great writing!

I love a good Mafia book.

Despite their forced marriage to create an alliance, Teagan and Joey grow to love each other and they refuse to let the underworld suck them six feet under. until one leader dies, and the other disappears and someone has put a hit on Joey’s life. Teagan refuses to leave Joey, so together, they’re on the run, fighting against every gang, criminal, and crooked cop across the country. Its a must read..

Teagan and Joey just can't catch a break and have to just keep running from something. I loved the first book, but this one was just so good! So many intense parts and didn't know what was going to happen next. Joey cares so much about Teagan and would do anything for her. But omg he is a jealous man! The action towards the end was exhilarating. This was a very quick read and I loved every minute of it.

A sequel to the duet. The book was good. It was well written. The characters kept things moving with lots of action and suspense. All Joey and Teagon wanted was to get away from the underground crime life and live a nice quiet life. But apparently that was not in the cards for them. Can they find a way to make their dream come true? Or will they die trying?
