This book is a combination of a story about a seventh grade basketball team and a lesson in the history of basketball. Michael Mancino is in seventh grade and the basketball season is about to start. The team will play a full season and then after that the seventh grade team will play the eighth grade team.
Michael’s team is small and quick and when the season starts, they find themselves incapable of handling teams with taller players and lose. When he gets a gift certificate, Michael finds some old copies of “Sports Illustrated” magazine that describe the UCLA Bruins basketball team in the early sixties. The team had no tall players so Coach John Wooden installed a constant and relentless full-court press and they won their first NCAA championship under Wooden. From the magazines, Michael learns how to execute the press and his teammates install it as a full-game strategy and their team fortunes change.
The story flows very well with little in the way of material other than that related to basketball. There are girls, but their role is primarily to staff the girls’ team of the school. The big game at the end is when they play the annual game where the seventh graders go up against the eighth graders. A very nice touch is the inclusion of a tall transfer student from Nigeria. Although his game is soccer and he knows almost nothing about basketball, the new boy becomes part of the team.
This is an easy read, one to get into late at night when you are slowly putting your mind to bed.

Michael is part of a basketball team that lacks a really tall player. However, they learn how to do a full-court press and that changes their game outcomes.

Classroom library for 3rd through 6th grade.

Plot summay: The main charater is Micheal is in seventh grade he has a love for basketball. Micheal breathes, eats and sleeps basketball. He has a big brother that is named Daniel, Daniel likes to play basketball too and Micheal is always playing basketball with Daniel they usely play for the “house championship”. When they play basketball on the slab on concrete in front of their house usely Daniel wins, but that doesn’t mean Micheal is too far off. Usley Micheal starts of with a good lead and then Daniel pulls ahead but it always comes down to the last straw. Micheal playing against his older brother that always beats him only makes him better though. But how much better him and his teammates got will be tested when the seventh grade plays the eighth grade. This game means A LOT to Micheal considering the eighth grade falcon boys have been talking smack all year.

Main charaters: Micheal, Daniel, Coach Cummings, mom, dad and other teammates

Supporting charaters: seventh and eighth grade falcon basketball team

Antagonist: eight grade falcons basketball team

Key issues: seventh grade boys against the eighth grade team game
Conclusion: I liked this book a lot.I found this book relatable first of all because I love baskeball and second is because there is always riviling between grades. I would say I would recommend this to a friend exspecially one who has played basketball or understand basketball or even just like sporty books. If you don’t even know what a rebound or a free throw is it might be a book for you but most people know the basics and that is all you need to have fun reading this book, plus a challenge can be fun its good to challenge yourself , What I am saying is, even if you don’t know much about basketball I think this book is great for you to learn about it. So happy reading!

This is an ok book or at least when it got exciting.......the book never really got exciting till' like the middle of the book after that i got hooked to it and i didn't put the book down after that.
I related to the book when it said "they are simply stronger, better and bigger". I could relate to that because in my neighborhood I'm the youngest who plays whatever sport.
I rated it a 3/5 because the book wasn't good till' like the end.

This story was mainly about that this kid name Michele and his brother name Daniel. They both loved basketball. They can't have a day without playing basketball. Well Daniel was an 8th grader and his brother was in 7th. Daniel always beat Michel in basketball. Well they faced together in a basketball game in school. It came down to a close game. This game was very important to Mike. This book ended with a cliff hanger.

The theme was that dont ever doubt your self. It was realistic fiction because this can really happened in real life.

I give this book 4 because I can relate it with my brother and I. Also because it ended in a cliff hanger.
