Curated from the prophetic and playful lectures of Alan Watts, Tao for Wisdom of the Watercourse outlines a path of least resistance for contemporary culture, presenting a guide to living the principles and practicalities of the “Watercourse Way.”
In this collection of edited talks, recorded between 1966 and 1973, Alan Watts explores the essence of Taoism with his charismatic style, sage insight, and a playful brilliance that is vitally needed in today’s world. Through juxtaposing Taoist principles with many of the bedrock assumptions of Western philosophy and culture, Tao for Now shines a much-needed light on important limitations and imbalances of modern civilization.
Inviting you to break free from societal constructs and egoic conventions, Alan Watts’ timeless wisdom offers a transformative entry point into the cosmic depths, inner freedom, and natural flow of who you truly are. Picking up where his final written work— The Watercourse Way—left off, Tao for Now features Watts’ most comprehensive teachings on Taoism to date, some made publicly available here for the first time.
Alan Wilson Watts was a British philosopher, writer and speaker, who held both a Master's in Theology and a Doctorate of Divinity. Famous for his research on comparative religion, he was best known as an interpreter and popularizer of Asian philosophies for a Western audience. He wrote over 25 books and numerous articles on subjects such as personal identity, the true nature of reality, higher consciousness, the meaning of life, concepts and images of God and the non-material pursuit of happiness. In his books he relates his experience to scientific knowledge and to the teachings of Eastern and Western religion and philosophy.
Wow! This is his second book on Doaism, and it’s one of his best works. Alan has a way of explaining some of the eastern concepts so ANY one can understand them. His son did an excellent job of curating this work to completion.
