Granny Sage needs a winter miracle. Could Elliot’s big secret save her...or will it only kill his romance with Hazel?
Deputy Elliot James is a walking—and flying—contradiction. A loner crow. An outlaw cop. A shifter who shows up to events on time and dressed appropriately, more or less.
Hazel’s struggling to come to terms with Elliot’s complex double life. She’s got trust issues and who could blame her, after a magical upbringing more screwed up than Cinderella’s?
But now Hazel’s mentor lies helpless in a magical coma, and only one man can help.
I live for magic. Modern magic, infused with heart and humor. Sometimes with an edge. Always with bright romantic sparks.
When I’m not spinning urban fantasy tales, you can find me flying after my 6-year-old witchling, cackling with my coven, or savoring a book while cuddled up with my cat familiar and, of course, coffee.
This book was slower for me - I still enjoyed it but not as much as 1 & 2. I am glad we are getting a 4th book and I am excited to see where this story goes!
This is book three of this series with more to come (which I am very excited about)! While this one did take me longer to read (at no fault to the writer/writing, life with three boys in different sports and work), I really enjoyed reading this book!
We get some answers to questions from book two (IYKYK) and also got to meet some new paranormal beings. We also got to solve another mystery while learning more about familiars and experiencing a few adventures with new characters.
I loved the character development of Hazel and Elliot. I loved watching Hazel learn more about her powers, learning how to handle tough situations and making new friends. I loved watching Elliot learn to open up, accepting his feelings and Hazels impulsive tendencies and I loved that we got to learn about his past and more about him.
I’m so excited for the next book and can’t wait to see what the next mystery will be and what adventures will be taken next! I was provided an advanced readers copy. These thoughts and opinions are my own.
I can’t wait for Book 4! This was a really cute read, and I loved it just as much as books 1 and 2! This thankfully covered what was missing in book 2- if you know, you know. Blue Moon Bay would be such a fun and cozy place to visit- adding this to my list of fictional places I would love to visit.
I loved the growth in Hazel and finding out more about Elliot.
I’m now in the mood for all of the baked goods.
*I received this as an ARC, and I am leaving an honest and voluntary review*
Sierra did it again, this book was so good! I love the Blue Moon Bay Witches series and this one is officially my favorite!I discovered this series back in October when I was looking for cozy/paranormal books and binged the first two, and pre-ordered this one as soon as I could! I loved how Hazel is slowly discovering more about her magic and growing as a witch. I really enjoyed her relationship with Elliot. Their adventures to try to save her Grandma were so fun and interesting. There’s so many good side characters and I loved how all these things that seemed unrelated tied together in the end. Highly recommend!
I thoroughly enjoyed books 1-3, I highly recommend if you want a cozish mystery that does have stakes. Book 3 was my absolute favorite though. The added fae and red witches was very intriguing and how it affected the story. The romance in the series progressed even more in book 3.
I waited a hot minute to write this review as I thought this was the last book in the Blue Moon Bay Witches saga, but luckily it’s not! I’m not too sure why I had it slated to end with this book. Imagine my delight when I got to the very end of this book and read that this fall there will be a FOURTH book!! I had to make time to cope with my unnecessary emotional roller coaster ride 😂
This is my 4th book by the author, which includes a prequel, and yet another book having to deal with the continuation of Hazel and her town’s residents troubles.
I have really enjoyed these cozy mysteries set in the beautiful coastal PNW state of Oregon. The author effortlessly projects its reader into the magical town of Blue Moon Bay and all the situations Hazel finds herself in.
Hazel has by this book a great continuing effort of growth. She’s definitely not the same character in book one and her ability to finally be a happy person in this book makes me glad I picked up this series. It was a fun way to escape reality and so easily. I think that’s one of the reasons this book also gets a high rating from me, along with the others.
I felt easily drawn in by Cross’s stories and I find comfort in the characters as a whole. I look forward to every new book in this series as well as fondly remembering my first time reading the other Blue Moon Bay Witches books and that feeling I got from them 💜🧙🏻♀️
With her grandmother, Sage, in a magical coma, Hazel is desperate to save her. She turns to Elliott for help, since he was able to get his magic back. But will her request drive a wedge between her and the shifter she’s had a crush on forever? Her Beige witch mother is already trying to sell Gran’s house from under her. Braving winter camping and trekking through the woods to meet the Red witches is her last hope. Meanwhile, there’s also a number of familiars acting strangely before disappearing. Hazel makes a startling discovery about her magic that helps her solve that mystery and help the animals affected. And it seems her dad has a secret as well that could shake things up in Blue Moon Bay.
The third installment in the Blue Moon Bay Witches series is another fun paranormal cozy. Hazel and her former frenemies, Max & Britt, are caring and supportive of each other. Hazel backs up Britt when she goes to testify before the vampire council, and Max keeps watch over Granny Sage when Hazel’s mom has her moved to the hospital. Elliott’s backstory is expanded and the Red Witches are introduced. There’s plenty of humor to balance the trauma in Hazel’s life. Her expanding powers are intriguing and seeing her dad break away from her mother’s control is encouraging. Very enjoyable storytelling and I’m looking forward to the next chapter.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
⭐️⭐️⭐️and a half Fruitcake and Familiars by Sierra Cross
Sierra Cross did not disappoint with the latest release of her third book Fruitcake and Familiars where Hazel goes on a treacherous journey with the town’s hottie Deputy Elliot, to help her grandma Sage gain her magic back. Little did Hazel know that she would uncover another mystery while being in the enchanted forest.
What I ❤️ about the book: 🍒 An insight into the various types of witches the author has created in the magical world. 🍒 It was refreshing to see Hazel come into her own and be a way more confident witch than in any of the previous books. 🍒 The book is a fun quick read and a nice sequel from the second book #SconesAndSlayers 🍒 As always, love the bond between Hazel, Max and Britt.
What I 🥵 about the book: 🍒 There were some editing errors which made me pause a few times and correct those in my mind. 🍒 Certain parts of the book felt a little slow and repetitive.
All in all, its a good third book that ties up a lot of unanswered questions and a deeper look into the world of Blue Moon Bay and I can’t wait for the next book to see what mystery the author has in store for us (hopefully its about Max!)
I get the feeling that this whole series is as enchanted as the baked goods from Sage's Bakery. I can't get enough, it's like the author put crack in it. Pre-ordered this book a month ago, right after I finished the previous one. This morning it appeared on my kindle and I had to squeeze it between two chapters of my current book. Now it's evening, I'm done and I crave for more.
There are about 3 or 4 sentences that have some small mistakes in them (that's way better than in the 2nd book), but they did not bother me at all. I simply enjoyed the story, the magical elements, loved the main characters and all the twists and turns the book took. So, I gobbled it all up in one go.
The only negative point (that isn't even valid) is that I hoped for a big steamy romance scene towards the end, simply because that shifter has me wrapped up around his fingers - and Hazel really deserves some appreciation. But well.. this isn't that kind of book series, I guess, so it's ok. 🥲
The 3rd book in the Blue Moon Bay Witches series is so hard to discuss without giving spoilers, but I'll try!
Fruitcake and Familiars gives us the answers to that major cliffhanger ending in the 2nd book {Scones & Slayers} and dives into the budding relationships we saw developing between witches + shifters! I loved that this book gave us a new type of witch, as well as introduced more paranormal beings from the forest. Our main plot was helping Granny Sage, but there were a lot of other really interesting subplots {ancient midwifery, familiars, souls, ancient vampires, fae, romance, warlocks!} going on that I can't wait to see develop in the series! I'm so glad there's more books coming 🎉 Another excellent book for fans of paranormal mysteries and adventures!
I really love this series. Blue Moon Bay and its inhabitants are everything, and I still want to pack up all my pets and move there. This book picked up right where Scones and Slayers left off. We got to know more about Elliot's past and what shaped who he is today. I feel like we also got to see a really powerful and more confident side of Hazel as she continued to discover and embrace her magic. I already loved the friends in Hazel's life, but I am so excited for the new ones she met in this and hope we get more of them in the series. I loved how this ended and cannot wait to see where the series goes from here.
The 3rd installment in Blue Moon Bay is now my favorite. I'm sure a lot of it was us FINALLY getting to see Elliot and Hazel develop their relationship. We get banter and character development along with another mystery to solve. As per usual I was captivated by the story and it just got better and better. I thought this was going to be the last and I wasn't ready to say goodbye to all of these characters.... But I see Book 4 is incoming!!!
Sierra Cross is now 3/3 for tricking me into suspecting the wrong person. She's tricky and I can't find the pattern. But that just makes it more fun!
It took me a while to get into the story of this book. I liked the first three books in the series (well, 2.5 books I suppose), but it’s been so SO long since I read them, I couldn’t even begin to tell you any details. Only when something from a previous book was directly stated did I get a vague memory of the previous books plots.
I do truly believe that if you are reading the series all at once without an eight month break, they would be enjoyable.
This series continues to get better with each new mystery that arises in Blue Moon Bay! I really hope this is not the end! I whipped through these pages like no one's business. Definitely my favorite in the series so far and not just because we finally got a Hazel / Elliot adventure. But only having one tent definitely had me on my toes!
Lovely end to the series. Was happy to have picked it up with its light-hearted mood (mostly) and the approach to magic. Would have loved to had more of the lore on the magic and exploration of the MCs magic but I think it was perfectly handled for a cozy book. There was a bit of romance which was ok but wouldn't rec this for the romance. It was still a nice addition though. Definitely keeping my eyes open for more of this author as well as the cozy genre blend of fantasy and mystery.
This is such a cute book and series I would seriously recommend to anyone who needs a cute and quick light read!! This book was by far my favorite of the series as well with relationships finally happening and hazel’s dad finally displaying his magic! the book ended in such a cute way to tie off the series! My only quarrel is I wish Hazel had gotten her familiar!!

I love all the ins and out of our main characters’ stories… But also want more about some of the side characters… Like Lucina! I’m super interested in her story. And what’s happening with Kade? Crossing my fingers the author puts something together for those two lol Hope you all enjoy this as much as I did! Enjoy!!
I can't explain why I adore this series so much, but it is the perfect read when your mind is loud. Rather like Granny Sage's tea blend! It's enchanting and playful.
My only issue is that I end up on a baking binge while reading - I'd love to see if someone has recreated Hazel's recipes!
I adore this series! This one was just as good as the previous ones - a great "who done it" I never saw coming, some romance, a lot of excitement, some new friends, new skills and lots of magic - as far as I'm concerned a perfect story to cozy up in bed and read all in a one go :) Loved it!
Sometimes I had a reread a sentence or paragraph multiple times to figure out what was meant. But other than that, as always, cozy is truly the operative word!
Also very excited to see the story is continuing!!
This whole series is so cute and fun! I’ve loved following the character development over the three books thus far. I’m excited to see this series develop further! I just need to remember to stop by a bakery for some tasty treats to enjoy while I read!
This was another fun cozy mystery about Hazel and her friends. I’ve been home sick with a virus, and these charming books gave me fun, light reading enjoyment as I recovered.
I wish Elliot and Hazel would have had more time in the woods bonding and falling for each other but I did enjoy them finally admitting their feeling. When he told his ex everything he loved 🥰🥰
A super cute read! Was a fair bit slower than the last two books, but felt it was slightly rushed at the end to tie everything up. Enjoyed it though - would recommend for something to cosy up with in the evening :)
Loved this book so much it’s the right balance of cozy and romantic look forward to reading the next book and seeing how Hazel and Elliot’s story grows !
