St Andrews, When a woman's eviscerated body is found on the golf course close to the Fairmont Hotel, DCI Andy Gilchrist and his associate DS Jessie Janes are assigned the investigation. But the post mortem examination uncovers a shocking detail that must be kept from the public.
Who could carry out such a brutal murder? And what is the significance of the gruesome trophy?
But DNA uncovers links to a murder committed thirty years earlier, and has Gilchrist fearing a killer of old has resurfaced, or worse, a debut serial killer setting out to learn his murderous trade. The hunt for the killer forces Gilchrist down a dangerous path that puts his and Jessie's life in danger, and ultimately leads them to a mind-playing madman who will kill again rather than go to prison.
As Gilchrist homes in on the murderer, he finds himself relentlessly drawn into the killer's mind games, and a desperate fight for his life, in which there can only be one winner.
Has Gilchrist finally met his match?
PRAISE FOR T.F.
'Rebus did it for Edinburgh. Laidlaw did it for Glasgow. Gilchrist might just be the bloke to put St Andrews on the crime fiction map.' Daily Record
'A truly gripping read, with all the makings of a classic series.' Mick Herron
'Gripping and grisly, with plenty of twists and turns that race along with black humour.' Craig Robertson
'DCI Gilchrist gets under your skin. Though, determined, and a bit vulnerable, this character will stay with you long after the last page.' Anna Smith
Born in Glasgow, Frank was plagued from a young age with the urge to see more of the world than the rain sodden slopes of the Campsie Fells. By the time he graduated from University with a degree he hated, he’d already had more jobs than the River Clyde has bends. Short stints as a lumberjack in the Scottish Highlands and a moulder’s labourer in the local foundry convinced Frank that his degree was not such a bad idea after all. Twenty-five years of working overseas helped him appreciate the raw beauty of his home country. Now a dual US/UK citizen, Frank divides his time between Richmond, Virginia, and Glasgow, Scotland, carrying out research in the local pubs and restaurants. Frank is currently doing some serious book research in St Andrews' local pubs, and working on his next novel, another crime story suffused with dark alleyways and cobbled streets and some things gruesome.
Dead Cold by T F Muir is book 13 in the DCI Gilchrist police series and this storyline is concerning a woman’s eviscerated body found on the golf course close to the Fairmont Hotel at St Andrews. DCI Andy Gilchrist and his associate DS Jessie James are assigned the investigation. This is a gruesome murder and there is also a trophy kept by the killer which is withheld from the public. This is similar to another murder committed 30 years earlier. The police investigation also uncovers a second murder and the person responsible is a very clever madman. Will the police uncover the person responsible and bring them to justice? A tale of twists and turns and gruesome deaths and a member of the police team is then injured. Will they recover? Highly recommended
Another winner from T. F. Muir in this cracking police procedural series. One Detective Chief Inspector Andrew James Gilchrist remains firmly on my list of favourite Scottish detectives. Well written with a complex plot as murders old and new combine giving the formidable detective food for thought. The author always does a really good job of combining the plot with the personal lives of the characters giving making them real without losing focus on the storyline. Dark and disturbing with some truly awful villains in this one make for a very good, addictive read.
I haven't read any of the previous books in this series, but really enjoyed the excellent writing, and the characters. DCI Gilchrist and his sergeant Jessie Janes are called to investigate the gruesome killing of a young woman whose body is found on a golf course. They soon have several suspects in their sights, but the killer is clever and ruthless, and their hunt for him leads them both into terrible danger.
When the body of a young woman has been found on a St Andrews golf course, DCI Andy Gilchrist and his team have a new case to solve. As well as this latest murder investigation, Gilchrist’s son Jack has gotten himself into some bother.
ooooh a good one here!! A woman is found savagely murdered (this one is pretty graphic for the squeamish reader) and Jesse and Andy will find themselves also investigating a 30 yr old similar murder. Stopping this madman will take up Andy's time. I still find his grown children obnoxious.
