Watch Em' Kill from the Shivers series is the only book that takes place on Halloween,as far as I know. It's been a while since I've done a Shivers book, but here we are.I thought this book was going to be a Gremlins knock off story but I was wrong, sort of.The story follows this kid named Phillip, who has an obsession with scary monsters. He collects them. His room is full of this spooky stuff.Phillip doesn't have many friends, because he is kind of nerdy. He loves to read and stay inside. One day he sees his "friends" out playing and he wants to join ,but they don't let him.He gets depressed and leaves to go to the discount store to buy some Watch Em' Grow toys, the toys you add water to and they grow into things. The toys he wants though are ones that turn into monsters, like Dracula Frankenstein's monster, the Wolfman, and The Creature From The Black Lagoon. He ends up getting on his bike and spills some of the creatures out while it's raining and hears gunshots. He goes home and tells his parents there was somebody shooting at him,so they call the police. The police arrive and inform Phillip that they saw something very weird near where the gunshots happend. They claim to see Footprints from something really big. That night the parents of the year end up leaving their kid who they think just got shot at by himself while they go out to party. He starts hearing noises outside of his house and we see our first monster. Its a mummy. His true friend comes over to protect him by hitting the mummy with a baseball bat. They escape into the rain and see the Wolfman chasing them while holding one of the earlier characters that didn't let Phillip play with them in his arms supposedly injured. That's all I'm going to reveal about the plot, because this book is actually fast paced and is easy to spoil. We do see more creatures pop up like the monsters I mentioned before. There is some pretty serious scenes like when one of the kids' parents tell them Frankenstein's monster injures a whole other family and they are in critical condition. This Shivers book was actually not terrible.I enjoyed seeing the different monsters.I only hoped they were all deafeted in legendary ways, but instead they were beaten with one specific way.I give Watch Em' Kill a four out of five stars. One other thing that bugged me though was they kept calling Frankenstein's monster just Frankenstein.

It was such an adventurous ride! I love books in the Shivers series and this one was fun, scary at parts but more on the adventure side. I loved how the group of friends come together to fight the monster. Yes, the novel is for children but it was enjoyable nonetheless and well, of course, nostalgia factor also plays its part.

Reminiscent of Stine's Monster Blood or Bradbury's 'Boys! Raise Giant Mushrooms in Your Cellar!'

It was a cool concept, but the story is just repeating its self the irony is that the main character finally finds friends who want to be friends with him.

Extremely cool and creative concept. But the book gets so repetitive. Overall 4.5/10

The author managed to turn the monsters into real lives, this makes the novel more unique than ever. Congratulations M.D. Spenser. :)
