Awful villain
Donnan was an awful man but his Mother and Father contributed to his delusions too in different ways. Alex was a good man. I loved his strength of character and Adeline was a. Perfect heroine. And I loved her dog Sciath. I did get a little weary of the machinations of the villain and the heroines Father. It was so wrong but the couple stayed strong.

The third book in the series but it’s very easily read on its own. It had everything that I could possibly want from a romance, wonderful characters, sizzling chemistry, betrayal, intrigue, drama & tender moments – I loved it. I loved Alex & Adeline who fell hard & fast for each other but boy were there obstacles in their path! However after a couple of blips they worked together & became a force to be reckoned with. Plus there was a secondary charming romance. An engrossing, enthralling romance & have I said I loved it

The third book in the series but it’s very easily read on its own. It had everything that I could possibly want from a romance, wonderful characters, sizzling chemistry, betrayal, intrigue, drama & tender moments – I loved it. I loved Alex & Adeline who fell hard & fast for each other but boy were there obstacles in their path! However after a couple of blips they worked together & became a force to be reckoned with. Plus there was a secondary charming romance. An engrossing, enthralling romance & have I said I loved it

This book’s hero is Alexander (Alex) Gordon, he is an illegitimate son of the Laird whose only goal is he wants to get into the King’s National Guard. He wants to have a home of his own and prove his worth, plus get away with his cruel and sadistic stepmother Moira Gordon. She is an heiress and owns the Gordon lairdship and lords it over her husband and threatens to take his Lairdship away if her wishes are not met. She hates her step-son and makes that clear to everyone letting everyone know he was born on the wrong side of the blanket and calls him derogatory names for being born illegitimate. He has two step brothers Donnan the heir and a younger brother Fingal. However his father is always praising Alex for being their strongest warrior and he often criticizes Donnan for being weak, which causes more shame and jealousy for Donnan.
Previously some lassies had shown some interest in calling him these names too and refusing his company if he asked them to dance or take a walk. Moira also hates that he is a better warrior than his eldest son and heir Donnan. She belittles this son and criticizes her heir for not being a better warrior and this causes major jealousy. Alex truly is loyal when it comes to his brother and does not see that this brother's cold heart is both unkind, and cruel and very jealous of Alex. Now Alex’s other step-brother Fingal who is kind and the brains and strategist does see his brother’s cruelty to Alex. Yet honorable Alex defends Donnan no matter what cruel action he has done like grabbing real swords instead of wooden swords in training.
Things get worse when a woman, Adeline Brodie comes to visit their stronghold and the first woman to open Alex’s heart. The first not caring about his illegitimate status as she had been a wallflower especially next to her beautiful vain sister Elizabeth. Adeline Brodie is always overlooked by others and has a loyal following, as she cares for runt of the litter or abandoned animals. She has her dog always with her and can have light hearted play by rolling in the dirt with her dog! Her father Laird Brodie is there to pick what men to pick to train for a position for the national guard, Her father was also born illegitimate.
Adeline is smitten for Alex immediately and her vain sister Elizabeth is shocked he is showing interest in Adeline and not her. As Alex only has eyes for Adeline as he doesn't even notice Elizabeth. It is the first woman who doesn’t care about Alex’s illegitimate status, he also sees she is intelligent and kind, It is the first man that notices her and picks her over her stunning sister. Except her father is not happy about their new friendship as he knows how difficult his position will be being born illegitimate. He makes threats and tries to force Adeline to marry another. Except Adeline and Alex fall in love very quickly and have a lot of obstacles to overcome. On top of that now his step brother Donnan wants the only woman that owns Alex’s heart. He wants Adeline only because Alex desires her. He is given a choice, a chance to be trained in The Kings National Guard or Adeline the woman he loves. Plus Laird Brodie is forcing her hand who will win the game of love, lies and betrayal? Read and find out.
Johnstone pens another faced paced, wonderful story in her third book in Wicked Willful Highlanders series. There is more than one player that wants to keep the hero and heroine apart. It has all the elements that historical fiction readers will enjoy. This book can also be read as a stand alone story. A book I highly recommend.

Book 3 of the Wicked Willful Highlanders series, Highlanders Never Forget, by Julie Johnstone is the story of Alexander Gordon and Adeline Brodie. And what a story it is! There is a lot of intrigue in this book and that makes it even more exciting to read!
As his father's bastard, Alex has worked fiercely for the opportunity to become a Night Guard for the King. It is his only chance to make a good living and be rewarded by the King. His chance is here, but his half brother, Donnan, and the Gordon heir, also is competing against him for the one spot for Night Guard AND for Adeline Brodie, daughter of the leader of the Night Guard. There is immediate chemistry between Alex and Adeline. There is also treachery and forces working against them. Many do not want them together, including Adeline's father and Alex's father's horrible wife and Donnan's mother.
I really loved this book for a number of reasons. First, for who and what Alex Gordon is -- an honorable, honest, hardworking young man, but also fearsome opponent. Alex is the quintessential loyal, brave, handsome and oh so sexy hero! He matches up perfectly with Adeline who is an honest, brave and beautiful young woman who is quite accomplished with a bow, loves her loyal dog, and her family. Alex and Adeline both fight fiercely for their future and love for each other!
What makes Alex so special is that he is truly humble and forgiving even at the end and that is why I fell in love with this warrior. He would do anything, give up anything for Adeline!
The secondary characters in this book were also very well developed by the author. I started out disliking Adeline's sister but at the end, loved her. There is so much more to the characters and story and that makes for a can't stop reading experience!
I highly recommend this 3rd book in the series. I was given an advanced reader copy of this book, however, this is my honest and truthful review.

Thanks to Julile Johnstone for an ARC of this book, the third in the Wicked Willful Highlanders series. This book is not particularly long or short, but it’s a page-turner and it compelled me to keep reading. I hated putting it down. Even though I knew there would be a happy ending, my emotional reactions to the story caused repeated amnesia.
Alex is a bastard and believes the only way to prove his worth is by joining the king’s Night Guard. Since his father, the laird, has always favored him, his eldest brother Donnnan harbors an animosity that makes him too competitive. And Alex is loyal to his brother, willing to set aside his own dreams to help him.
Adeline’s father is a laird, and also a bastard. He overcame his meager origins by joining the Night Guard and earning the king’s favor. But because his wife died while he was away fighting and he feels immense guilt, he is unwilling to allow Adeline to pursue a relationship with Alex. He fears the same thing may happen to her. He goes so far as to threaten Alex that if he pursues his daughter, he will not earn a place in the Night Guard.
Half-truths and deceptions cause unnecessary heartache until Alex and Adeline are finally honest with one another. They have fallen in love and are determined to overcome any obstacles placed in their path. Unfortunately, one of those obstacles is Donnan, and he’s both persistent and devious. The happy ending is bittersweet because it reveals the falsity of the bond Alex thought he had with his brother.
I definitely recommend this book. The emotions are portrayed realisitically and poignantly. Discriptions of of locations and actions are clear. Dialogue is authentic, and peripheral characters are sufficiently explained to justify their actions. It’s a compelling read.

Wow, what a book. Julie Johnstone never fails to amaze me with the talent she has. This book is absolutely fantastic. The main couple were so perfect for each other. Sometimes, I laughed, and other times, I cheered, but throughout the book, the author kept us guessing. All in all, I would definitely recommend this book. If you like strong heroes and feisty heriones, look no further. You have found your book. Ms. Johnstone, you are truly one of the most gifted writers I have ever come across.

I enjoyed this story, would rate it 4.5 stars and rounded up. It always saddened me when reading how children were viewed/treated in medieval history because they were born out of wedlock. As if they were lesser of a person than anyone else.
Alex was one to work hard to achieve his dream of becoming one of the Guard in the hopes of impressing the king enough to gift him with a stronghold, land, and men to help him protect it. He was well acquainted with the way he was treated because of his status, including in his own home. In his eyes, he could never marry a laird's daughter. It was below his station. And he must fight off the feelings he was having for Adeline at all costs.
Adeline saw people for who they were, not their station in life. She was a caring, loving, nurturing woman who loves animals and would rather play with them than anything else. And then she meets Alex and she sees the person he truly is and is fiercely drawn to him. Is there a possible way of them being together? Could her father see Alex for his character instead of how he was labeled.
I was confused on the one person that said this book was predictable, it was not. All along the twists happened letting out a bit of the truth as you read along. Who was clearly behind the deceit was not who I thought it was. It's a good story, one I'd recommend. I was gifted with an ARC and wanted to post my thoughts.

This is book 3 in Julie’s Johnstone’s fabulous Willful Wicked Highlander series. Our hero Alex has always felt a need to better himself, given he is the illegitimate son of the Laird, and gaining a place on the King’s Night Guard is a way to do it. Unfortunately his brother Donnan is also vying for a place in the guard. They have always been competitive, striving for their father’s approval and personal glory. Adeline is the younger daughter of Laird Brodie, he is the man who determines who fights and ultimately wins a spot on the Night Guard.
Alex and Adeline immediately have an attraction to one another but outside forces are determined to keep them apart. What will win out love or honor? Luckily Fingal, Alex’s other brother and Elsbeth, Adeline’s older sister see the growing love their siblings have for each other and set out to aid them. This book has everything you expect of a medieval story, lies, treachery, fighting and romance. Ultimately love wins and our couple find their happy ever after.

Fate, Fortunes, Betrayal, Love:
First let me say this is an amazing story from the very start that is filled to the brim with such deep emotions and wonderful characters that had me so engrossed I couldn't stop reading. Needless to say, I didn't get anything done other than having the enjoyment of reading this book.
The first few chapters had such good insight as to what this story was going to offer. The depth of feelings all of the characters have for each other made this story not only good but fantastic, gripping, intense, yet a heartfelt romance that is swoon worthy. There is plenty of anguish, heartaches, betrayals, yet all of the wonderful family feelings come through so that this romance story comes to a wonderful HEA.
I totally enjoyed Alex and Adeline's personalities, their charisma and strength both, physically and emotionally.
✔Special Mention to Sciath, Adelines dog, For me she helped make this book memorable.
✔ Outstanding Cover with those piercing eyes.

First let me say this is an amazing story from the very start that is filled to the brim with such deep emotions and wonderful characters that had me so engrossed I couldn't stop reading. Needless to say, I didn't get anything done other than having the enjoyment of reading this book.
The first few chapters had such good insight as to what this story was going to offer. The depth of feelings all of the characters have for each other made this story not only good but fantastic, gripping, intense, yet a heartfelt romance that is swoon worthy. There is plenty of anguish, heartaches, betrayals, yet all of the wonderful family feelings come through so that this romance story comes to a wonderful HEA.
I totally enjoyed Alex and Adeline's personalities, their charisma and strength both, physically and emotionally.
✔Special Mention to Sciath, Adelines dog, For me she helped make this book memorable.

Bad parenting!
Alex is the bastard son of a laird living in his father’s home along with his step mother and 2 step brothers. Life has not been kind to him. His oldest brother competes with him all the time trying to best him at everything. His step mother is unkind and his father praises his warrior skills and that feeds the jealously in his step mother and oldest step brother. When an opportunity to compete for a coveted position on the King’s Night Guard arises, Alex sees this as his opportunity to make something of himself and possibly be awarded land and a keep of his own. Plus he is quickly smitten with Adeline, the youngest daughter of the man who will decide who gets those positions. As you can imagine, brotherly competition and jealously, step mother interference, deception, lies, brutality, and manipulation from both families, make the journey for Alex and Adeline to find their happily ever after quite difficult. I loved this book! The characters were great and the story had me tearful and hopeful til the very end.

I can always count on Ms.Johnstone to write a entertaining it that comes alive. Alex being born out of wedlock and neglected by his stepmother who is using him to keep is father under her thumb who is his fathers favorite son and his step brother knows it. So he is determined to win a spot with the Night Guard and will not let anything stand in his way of his dreams to have a home and family of hos own who will always be there for him. Adeline who is Lord Brodie's daughter is her fathers favorite and her older sister sees it.
Alex and Adeline will have to fight for what they want against the betrayals from the people they thought they could trust.

Alex wants to win a place on the King’s Night Guard to prove himself worthy. It has been hard for him to do so since he is illegitimate and faces the scorn of his father’s wife, and sometimes his brother. Both he and Donnan want a place on the Guard. Adeline is the younger daughter of Lord Brodie, the man who is in charge of the competition for the spot in the Guard. Alex and Adeline have an almost immediate connection. Their way to a future won’t be easy. There are troubles from expected and unexpected sources. What a good story! There is sibling rivalry medieval style, lies, jealousy, betrayal, treachery, and romance. Alex is an awesome hero, loyal, honorable, strong (and handsome). Adeline is smart and courageous, not afraid to speak up. They are perfect for each other. I liked Fingal and Elspeth, and Scaith, Adeline’s protective dog. An engaging story that holds your attention, great characters, and a happy ending.

Alex and Adeline's story is filled with many complicated relationships. Alex and Adeline realize early on that they love each but the battles they face are many. Alex is a bastard child born to his father when he was married to Moira (Alex's stepmom). Moira tries to have Alex killed with poison and his half Donnan betrays him many times over. Adeline's sister, Elspeth suffers from extreme jealousy of Adeline until they help each other. This is a great book that you need to read to understand all that happens!

This was a great story. I loved Alex's loyalty to his family no matter how they treated him. He lived with his parentage being held over his head regularly. Adeline hated being used as a pawn because of her father's parentage and his desire to save his daughter from the same situation. Together, Adeline and Alex tried to convince everyone of their love and that they knew love would be enough. I loved it!
As I listened to the audiobook, I enjoyed the narration by Timothy Campbell. He did a wonderful job with the different accents and voices. He made the story that more enjoyable.

The story of Alexander & Adeline's romance was definitely a roller coaster ride and I loved it! The machinations of their families were amazing and terrifying at the same time. I never knew what roadblock they would meet next on their road to their HEA. I can count on Julie Johnstone to write a story full of drama and adventure which makes me want to keep reading until the end then I'm sad when it is over. That describes the best books to me.

Good series
This story has a lot of emotions! I liked Alex and Adeline character especially Adeline she is spunky when she needs to be. This book is filled with a lot of tension, betrayal, jealously, hope and love. I couldn't put it down! So sit in your comfy chair with a glass of wine read it. Love highlander books have read several books by this author who never disappoints.

When the kings commander comes to their castle for the competition and the pick for the Kings guard he brings along his two daughters. This is when the brothers show how they really feel about each other.

This is a wonderful exciting and entertaining story that I couldn't put down, the romance is one dreams are made of and the characters are likeable, especially Alex, totally swoon worthy.

Adeline and Alex’s romance is fraught with obstacles, but their chemistry and attraction are a force to reckon with. Alex’s loyalty to his brothers is commendable even when it’s not reciprocated. I love how Adeline stands up for what she believes and desires, a fierce, brave heroine. I would have loved an extended epilogue as I’d like to read more about this couple.

Highlanders Never Forget is a journey that takes Adeline and Alex on a bumpy road to over coming self doubt, betrayal, intrigue, family unity and realizing the meaning of love. Julie Johnstone has written a story full of tension-building twist and turns that will keep you sitting on the edge of your seat wondering who the true villain is until the very end.

I absolutely loved this story. So much going on and not a boring page in the book. I just loved the characters and storyline so much. I knew he was evil. He got what he deserved. I enjoyed this book. Highlanders Never Forget is book three in the Wicked Willful Highlanders series. This book can be read as a stand alone. Adeline and Alex’s tale is often a complicated one. There are dangers that I wasn’t expecting and twists and turns that kept me reading. There are a few steamy scenes. This author is such a master with the pen. I can’t wait to read more.

Good story.
Alex and Adeline had such a heart warming story All the characters were well-written and likable. There is a wee bit of passion and a whole lot of love. The story flowed along nicely and was over before I realized it.

disappointed
I have read this author many times and usually enjoy most of her writing however not this time. Found myself skipping the first entire half of the book and found the second half pretty much mediocre. It’s an easy read. Predictable and ends okay

Interesting Love Story
I kept this story thinking it would be as good as the rest. It took too long to get to the end. Usually the last chapter is good but the last paragraphs were so.

Wonderful, clever story that has complications in a growing relationship of honor and trust. Alex and Addie were meant to be a forever love. Great characters, family drama and conflicts keep the pages turning.
