From a wacky-haired caterpillar to a trumpet-blasting bumblebee, meet the neighbors and friends of Rose the hummingbird. Share the lives of animals, birds, and insects in a lively garden in this middle-grade fantasy for boys and girls.
Just a grandmother who loves to tell stories. Coming soon: She was born in a tiny crick at the end of a dead-end street and raised by a wise old starling who walked with a crooked cane. She enjoys endless hours dining with fairies and entertaining dragonflies.
The scale of the characters was confusing at times. There were also a lot of details that seemingly had no point. I could imagine this would be confusing for a child. There is real potential with the characters and writing, just too much happening in too few pages.
Sharon Mathers’ Along the Cobbled Path is an animal fantasy at a mid- to upper-elementary level. I will say that this book would have benefited from some illustrations. The storyline is probably something second or third graders would enjoy. But at that age, they also enjoy some pictures. The story includes the themes of good vs. evil, helping others, and putting the needs of others over your own. It also speaks to gossiping and its harmful nature. Some may be concerned with a book for this age group being about battles in a war. While the war is justified - fighting to keep their home - some may not want children of this age reading about fighting. Along the Cobbled Path would make a great read-aloud, either in the classroom or at home, maybe even as a bedtime story. Along the Cobbled Path deserves consideration for a K-12 Christian school library. It is most appropriate for younger advanced readers - second and third graders who have a higher reading level. I received a complimentary copy of Along the Cobbled Path. This is my honest review.
I got a free digital copy of this book through a Goodreads giveaway. And although I would like to say it was all wonderful, the truth is that most of the times I felt like I really didn't know what I was reading. The plot was not that easy to follow or even understand.
I have a highly active kid who wouldn't be one bit interested in this book, and it's many twists and turns.
I loved seeing a book that ended a war without a burst of violence, but I'm still not so sure about how everything got resolved.
I know that the age range goes from 7 to 10, but it wouldn't hurt to have a couple more drawings in there.
Lastly, what I loved the most was Frizzy's transformation and how Rose understood that there are a million different ways to help people in need.
"Along the Cobbled Path" by Sharon Mathers is a fun book about animals in a garden. It's great for kids around 6-10 years old. The animals in the story face a problem and work together, teaching kids about teamwork and being kind. It reminds me of other cool books like "Wind in the Willows." The story is exciting and has lessons about doing good things and being brave. I read it with my 8-year-old and we loved it! The book made us laugh and think. It's like going on an adventure in a garden filled with friends. I recommend it to kids who like stories about animals and want to learn about being nice and brave. It's a really cool book that will make kids want to read more!
I read this to my 5-year-old daughter. I picked it up because of the delightful cover. It looked so cute. My daughter loved the characters and their cute names. Who wouldn't want a friend called Frizzy? The story starts with a tea party. How cute is that? All the creatures are getting together to have fun. Needless to say, she enjoyed the story. I enjoyed the cute characters and the lessons the story taught along the way. It wasn't just a cute story it made you think.
P.S. Highly recommend it as a bedtime story for anyone who ages 5-10 years old. It was a delightful story with things to learn along the way. It was also quick at 117 pages.
Along the Cobbled Path takes place in a garden where all the animals (hummingbirds, caterpillars, ants, bluebirds, etc.) live their lives not unlike ours. There are garden parties and marriages and — even a war. That's right, the storyline enlists all the colorful characters to defend the garden from a villain who wants to take it over. It's a fun read, and often quite humorous, but also allows children to think about good and bad, helping others, greed, gossiping, and how to do what's right. I read it along with my 7-year-old, and we really enjoyed it.
Awesome book! This book is about the little creatures living in the garden, holding parties endlessly! However, a rebel started a war that everyone scrambled to protect their garden against! I love to read this short story about the birds and insects coming together as friends! I would recommend it to children around 7-12 to read if they like small garden creatures! Thank you Sharon for the cute book!
The cover is stunning and sparked my interest. The inside is just as cute. The story is easy to follow and perfect for children from 7-12 years. The animals are well described and they make me feel all sorts of feelings throughout the book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
