I graduated from high school early and traveled as much of the world as I could until I turned thirty and realized I wanted to try a more adult lifestyle. I started a company with a borrowed van and a 2,500 credit card limit - and now that company makes a million plus a year.

I got married in 2009 and my wife has been a great partner in helping me build everything. Writing has always been something I wanted to do, and now I have turned fifty, I have decided it is time to go for it!

My wife and I love to travel and go to good restaurants, but what we love most is simply trying to enjoy each moment as it happens.

"Searching for Zen" by Albert T. Franklin is a book that's not easy to categorize. It's a mix of history, sci fi, fantasy with whole host of relatable human experiences. Above all it's a journey, but not just in the physical sense, It was a deeper, more introspective and mystical kind of travel.

The storyline is well conceived and it held my attention throughout. The writing style is direct, yet elegant. The story doesn't shy away from the messier parts of life, nor does he glamorize the search of enlightenment. It's this honesty that resonates throughout the book. Zen's predetermined life purpose is a difficult one, he has the weight of the world on his shoulders (literally), but with a mix of good friends, resilience and self discovery, Zen emerges and builds a future of love.

Impossible to put down. I read it cover to cover and can’t wait for the next one. "Searching for Zen" was a journey worth taking. It's one of those books that lingers in your mind, popping up in your thoughts days after you've put it down. Highly recommended.

I don't read sci-fi often at all. I just don't enjoy it because I struggle with suspension of belief so I can never get fully engrossed in the story but this book is just amazing! The premise for this book is the most unique I have ever read. The story is pretty fast-paced and involves high stakes throughout but things just become clear and more comprehensive the further you read on.

The story revolves around Zen, who grapples with doubt, loneliness, and the dark facets of humanity. He is told that his purpose is predetermined. As he matures, he not only discovers resilience within himself but also forges unexpected bonds and discovers love. He learns that love, friendship, and divine destiny all come with a heavy price.

This book is well written and uniquely imaginative, it is fast-paced and filled with so many miracles. I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure a lot. In conclusion, this book is challenging to describe but the world in which the plot takes place is captivating, the scientific subjects are brilliantly addressed just enough to grab your attention, the characters are perfectly calibrated, you just want to sit down an read it all at once.

This was not my typical genre, but it is interesting to reach out to new things from time to time. It is a very thought provoking read, suited for fans of Christian fantasy told in a fable-like manner.

I’m not a spiritual or religious person myself so I found it difficult to connect to the tale, but that is personal to each reader. The story is told in a third person perspective that follows Zen’s journey as he discovers that he has a challenging path ahead of him. He is blessed with magical skills, such as pausing time and healing energy, as well as being able to absorb the life experiences of people by touching them. He struggles as a young boy to find his purpose in life, but it becomes clearer as The Guide shows him his path. He constantly faces bad people throughout his journey, but he tries as much he as he can to do what’s right and help those in need. In the end he ends up finding friendship and love.

The feeling I had while following his story was that I was reading a fantasy fable with an important lesson that would soon come to light. I kept trying to read the meaning of things in between the lines. There are some dark moments so this book is definitely not a fable for children, more like an adult tale to make you question things.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy for review

The cover isn’t bad but it doesn’t reflect the true essence of the story.

This is another take on ‘Lord of the Rings.” The main character Zen, short for Zendarian, is tasked with finding the correct people who will help him in his quest for finding artifacts. so, he can pass his final test and prove his worthiness to the Guide.

At a very young age, he realizes he has a strange gift. When he touches people, he absorbs all of their knowledge, wisdom and characteristics. He also realizes he has the ability to be a healer, but hasn’t quite figured it out. IE”, when his Mother falls ill, he doesn’t know to use his gift. He also has the ability to manufactured anything he wants: clothes, money, food, freeze time and can summon amazing powers when challenged scaring anyone who doesn’t understand him and like most half-wits, fear what they cannot comprehend.

The people who join him are Duncan, who has the ability to understand any and all languages. Catastavour, who lives in the sewers for no fault of his own, was born with many deficiencies, reminded me of Andre the Giant. When provoked, he can handle any adversary, as long as they’re humans with no problem. Mary, who was killed as a sacrifice, but because the priests who performed it, the Gods were angered and made hem pay. Mary! Well, her soul is still trapped in the world and her sole purpose is to harass and scare anyone she wishes to. There are a few others as Zen carries on his quest.
And of course, there are the appropriate low life’s who want to gum up he works: Vannick and his employer Duke Mortiz. Mortiz is one sick and twisted individual. Would have been the perfect Commandant of a German Concentration Camp during World War Two. He is one sadistic individual!
The adventures the band experience is well thought and interesting. The battle scenes are perfect and the pace is fast and exciting in this fictional world.

Cons
Over fifty-seven unique grammatical, punctuation issues. They interrupt the flow. Here are a few examples.
1) Page one, second sentence, “The affluent ground the masses into the dirt. This makes no sense.
2) Page 4 Everyone kept their distance from them on for fear, delete the word on
3) Page 4 He had allowed them to stay when there was no man to care for them so in his mind,… comma after them, and after so.
4) Page 85 “Well now aren’t you a cuttie, tell me what your is little girl?” comma after now, Either start a another sentence after cuttie, or use a semi colon. Cuttie should be Cutie.

And it goes on all through the story. It needs to be cleaned up and I am available to help.

Overall, it’s not a bad read, but the issues I mentioned do interrupt the flow.

Three Stars.

Superb Adventure Story

Zen can learn everything from a touch - dreams, experiences, and discipline of anyone he touches.
He can also heal a person but was once too late. The guilt he feels at this failure compels him to help everyone he can.
He pursues a destiny he is not sure he can fulfil, but he will stop at nothing to try.

Albert T. Franklin's "Searching For Zen: A Tale Of Divine Destiny" is a captivating journey that skillfully combines the spirituality with the everyday world. Reading Franklin's work is like travelling through the many layers of the protagonist's soul on a delicate dance, drawing readers into a science fiction and fantasy world full of surprises. Zen, the protagonist of the tale, struggles with uncertainty, loneliness, and the worst aspects of human nature. It is explained to him that his mission is preset. This was very interesting book to read. There was to a point I didn't want to put the book down. Zen as a character was very interesting, which increased the fact that I didn't want to put it down. I was intrigued with the premise of this story as it was very intriguing. It developed nicely throughout the story which became very interesting. Zen had many challenges throughout this book, however it seemed like he managed to create a family out of a group of people. And even though he knew that his journey was going to be difficult he still pushed through to be able to achieve his goal, his destiny. I enjoyed the authors writing style which was very effective in telling the premise and themes of the book, in a way that created curiosity to find out what would happen next. I felt that the ending of the book rounded the story of very cleverly.

Searching for Zen: A Tale of Divine Destiny is vivid tale of a boy who would be the Zendarian - given the name Zen - and told of the massive powers that he had and would attain in his travels. Wildly crafted characters - including one truly insane antagonist - keep the story humming along at a good clip. Scenes of action highlight the story, and Franklin certainly is gleeful in letting Zen play. An enjoyable read for those who love the quest-filled fantasy genre!

Great story

I rarely give 5 stars, but really loved everything about this story and enjoyed it whilst holidaying in the Algarve.

The early mention of Arundel made ne think of Frozen, that's the only thing I'd change.

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole arc of the story and will be inviting the author on my Budding Author Podcast show.

Searching for Zen is a coming-of-age fantasy novel that morphs into an adult fantasy novel that depicts the tale of a young man who discovers he has magical capabilities. Searching for Zen takes readers on a journey of discovery. Originally introduced as a nameless character, readers will follow along with Zen’s story as he seeks to understand his new abilities, the quest that he must embark on, and the discoveries he makes along the way.

Searching for Zen reaches out to readers with a cover that depicts a young woman in a white dress, with her back turned. It appears that she is stepping through what could be interpreted as a portal or doorway. Behind her, another character is shown in a cloak with a hood drawn over their head. Who is this mysterious character with a spark of magic glimmering in their palm? The only way to discover the answers to these questions… dive deep into this book!

At the beginning of Searching for Zen, author Albert T. Franklin paints a picture of a world ground down by the powerful. In the first chapter, the reader is given familiar elements to grasp onto; the influential controlling the information the masses receive such as, who to be against and who to stand with. This seems to be setting the stage for a story that takes place in a more modern-day era. However, Searching for Zen is set on a somewhat modern Earth with a more medieval feel to it.

In the first few pages, author Franklin begins to lay out the bones of the story, an angel looking for a child with a good heart. Someone who, if they pass a specific test, will have the opportunity to better their world, not just for themselves, but for all who live in the world, in the present, and in the future.

As Searching for Zen progresses, Franklin tells the story of a young boy who is growing up without a father who was lost in the wars. One would think that the mother would seek another to marry, but she never does. The expectation that will come next is that surely this will cause problems with the lord whose lands they live on. For a time, it appears that this is not the case, which is a nice change of pace from how things typically are expected to unfold.

Instead, author Franklin shifts to show the boy who will become the main character of the story being distant, despite his mother’s attempts at showing him how much she cares. But it’s as the boy continues to grow that life throws a twist into his life. Sickness. One day he becomes ill and with this illness comes his change.

This first change is just one of many that will be shown throughout Searching for Zen. It will be one that will further set him apart from not just his mother, but also the people of the village that he lives close to. All coming from one selfless act - the miraculous healing of his mother on her seconds before she dies. People tend to fear what it is that they don’t understand, and in this case...this is no exception.

Searching for Zen is a fantasy novel told from the third person perspective and has hints of religious elements sprinkled throughout. The boy, that readers are introduced to in the beginning of the story, becomes known as Zen, as he becomes the newest Zendaria, a champion for the people. As the story progresses he will acquire various items as well as grow and develop a variety of skills and talents.

This book’s storyline takes on an ebb and flow like the tide. The story will draw readers in with engaging elements that range from the introduction of new characters to interesting scenes that depict Zen utilizing his newfound talents. When the story settles into the more “mundane” elements of the story or their travels, then the story will act as a guide to what happens next.
Drama pops up here and there as the characters find that their path is far from being a smooth one. Danger will pop up here and there as Zen finds evil in many places throughout the lands.

Thanks to Zen’s powers, dealing with the threats that challenge them won’t be too much for him to handle. There will be some obstacles interspersed throughout the story though, so don’t think that everything will always go their way. As a fantasy novel, readers can expect to find a variety of characters and races within these pages. Some characters, along with Zen, have unique magical skills. Are any as strong as Zen? Some are, and then there are others who are weaker, while there are a couple of anonymous characters who are stronger.

Searching for Zen envelopes quite a bit within its storyline. Readers will get romance, danger, magic, surprises, a touch of humor here and there, and some rather unsavory characters. For readers looking for romance that develops along with the story. You’ll be pleased that this is the case between Zen and the one who falls for him. There is no insta-love here. Instead it grows behind the scenes only being drawn to the forefront in conversations between the characters.

This novel is intended for older readers because of the variety of scenes and situations found within the pages. Readers will find some fight scenes scattered throughout this story. Most, if not all the scenes will depict our hero going up against those who would try to harm the group. It’s safe to say that there are no “needless” fight scenes. Simply put, the fight scenes serve the purpose of showcasing Zen’s character in more ways than one. That being said, there will be a few descriptions and scenes that some readers may find themselves uncomfortable with. The romance will develop into a couple of sexual scenes, but the ones that are described aren’t overly detailed, so readers who wish to would be able to easily skim over those and not miss much of the story’s plot. There are some descriptions, however, and a scene or two of non-consensual situations.

Searching for Zen has its highs and lows. The highs would be the drama and some of the action scenes. One of the lows would be the lack of detail and storyline building giving readers insight into Zen’s youth after he discovers his first gift. Also, the dialogue left some things to be desired as it doesn’t flow naturally. While Franklin does take this story in some expected directions, he makes sure to throw in some surprise twists as well. With the final chapters of this book, the author throws a final big twist at readers that will leave them wondering...is this really the end? We think that there may be a following book to this one, but only time will tell what truly happens to Zen.

All in all, the big question is...would we read more of this story if another book were to come out furthering Zen’s story? The answer would be...yes! There is further room for character development and for more of the story to be told. Searching for Zen is a book that readers who enjoy fantasy with a touch of Christianity mixed in should consider picking up.

Pros:

Interesting characters
Good amount of drama
Storyline has engaging moments
Development of romance over time
Open ending

Cons:

Lacks background
Dialogue doesn’t flow naturally

Cover Score: 8.0
Overall Book Score: 7.8

This is the story of Zen, a boy with unique abilities who, from a young age, must search for himself and discover what his destiny is, but it is difficult to follow a journey that will mark you for life, although along the way he will find friends and love, he must still discover his destiny. . .

The author takes us to a different version of the earth where fantasy is present and without a doubt he does it in a great way because between the descriptions of the places and the development of the story he completely immerses us in this world, although there are some slightly slower sections, most of it is very entertaining to read.

It also brings us characters that fit perfectly into the story and without a doubt the development of the main character is maintained throughout the book, so watching him mature and learn to master his skills is the most entertaining while reading.

Although it is clear that it is the first book of several, it does not feel heavy but is a simple and light fantasy read that will surely please those who are fans of fantasy, science fiction and alternate worlds.

I am very grateful to Booktasters and the author for sending the digital book for this collaboration, I really enjoyed it and can't wait to read the next one.

Book :-" Searching For Zen "

Author:- Albert T.Franklin

📚My Review:- A TALE OF DIVINE DESTINY Revolving around the character Zen, the book is a literary masterpiece that continues to mesmerize readers with its powerful storytelling and profound themes. Zen is ready to fight against all the odds to find himself a family and place where he belongs. On seeing that humanity was headed backwards, God decided to send a new champion to see if they could bring back the humanity on track. They searched the world for a time and the journey had led them to this boy later named Zen, who was selected as the next Zendaria and gifted the power of understanding the skills, memories and wisdom of people by just touching their skin. Doesn't that sound amazing ?? He could control matter and bring anything come into existence even the human bodies.. The main power he had was that he could stop time.. With all the powers, comes huge responsibility. What do you think will he succeed ?? The book focuses on the self discovery and resilience as Zen matures, he not only builds a family connection with some strangers but also experiences the transformative power of love. Throughout his journey, he struggles to fulfil his purpose and learns how to trust people.. As the story slowly unfolds, Zen discovers that everything say it friendship, love or destiny all comes with great struggles and sacrifices. The author Albert T.Franklin has specifically given special characteristics, quirks and flaws that made Zen ultra familiar and relatable for the readers to connect with him on his life changing journey of fulling his purpose that seemed predetermined and discovering love.. Highly recommended. Overall, i would definitely love to read more amazing books by the author. Trust me it's a five star read

On his journey he will learn he was not the first and if he loses the quest he will not be the last. He will also fall in love make good friends in form his own kind a family. The question is though this will he be able to win the battle at the end of his quest? I really enjoyed this book I also loved that although he and a couple of his friends had powers there were still things they couldn’t do I found the story compelling and from character to character as a story moves along it’s almost as if I wasn’t aware time was passing this was an also interesting read and one I highly recommend to those who like sci-fi alternate universe stories and battles of good and evil and although this ends on a cliffhanger it is still the complete story of him meeting the people and finding the relics he will need in the end. From a lonely insecure boy to a man with many friends and lots of love will he live to enjoy it or will he just be one of many Zens I can’t wait for the next installment of“Searching for Zen“ I love alternate universe stories and this is a great one! Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.?

Albert T. Franklin's "Searching For Zen" is the tale of a protagonist named Adria, who goes by Zen. He was chosen by the Angels and possesses the ability to touch people and take on their memories and skills. Because everyone believes he is a monster, he feels compelled to leave his home. Additionally, he has a spirit guide who informs him that he must set out on a journey and will encounter particular individuals to whom he will grant permission to accompany him. Once he has gathered these exceptional individuals, he will proceed to gather five relics that will aid him in his final quest. He will discover on his voyage that he was not the first, and even if he fails in his mission, he won't be the last.

It is encouraging to see the protagonist transform from a tentative person burdened by an imposed fate to a strong person who finds power inside. He discovers companionship and love along the road, and the experience is somewhat emotional rollercoaster-like. You get the impression that you are actually there with Zen thanks to Albert T. Franklin's storytelling style. As he describes Zen's emotions and thoughts, the enchanted surroundings practically come to life. The story captivates readers right away with its vividly envisioned setting and engrossing cast of people. Franklin deftly addresses themes of identity, courage, and the search for purpose in the face of hardship while our hero battles doubt, and loneliness. This was a compelling book with a thought-provoking lesson. We frequently lose sight of the reason we were sent here in the first place—life. The happenings will draw you into the story and keep you entertained even though it's a long read.
