Anchored to the Sharkman is a full-length, slow-burn, sweet-n-steamy sci-fi standalone romance, featuring a human scientist and a sharkman commander who fall in love while saving each other.
USA Today Bestselling author, Jade Waltz writes sweet-n-steamy, character-driven romances for those who dare to love the paranormal.
When she isn't writing all the stories that live in her imagination, she's knitting, playing video games, or drinking her wide collection of teas while enjoying her succulent collection.

This one has a bit more angst than Waltz readers are used to reading but it isn't bludgeoning. I appreciated that it wasn't all easy fixes, too. We learn a bit about Isla, how.her past is impacting her current life. We learn how Ky'rn was captured and why. And while the story is very character centric weeet some interesting side characters and see a little of Ky'rn's home in a sweet slice of life scene. I still want to pinch Roman's head off, and hope that he runs up against someone who gives him heck, though lol.
DNF at 33% Because the blurb talks about the MC saving her I would like to read about it, but exactly that happens off screen and we get a time skip. The plot with her seemingly nice granddad was predictable and made her look stupid, even tough she is supposed to be a scientist. Also, how naive do you have to be to translate any information exactly as it is said to someone you don't trust with the other persons safety. It is in every movie not to do that. I was waiting around for the action of the MMCs escape and the love story, but other reviews and my own experience with this series convinced me not to.

The last book was bad, but I decided to try this one. After the 8th use of the word "past" in 2 pages I just couldnt do it. The first book was really good. I dont know what happened after that.
We were promised a retelling of The Shape of Water (could have been a solid 16 chapters story, erotic or poetic). What we got was a mess. I didn't DNF but started speed reading halfway. 36 chapters with overwritten and endless repetitive monologues. If I read the word 'intoxicating' one more time I'm going to scream bloody murder. It was a mix of bad pulp sci-fi with soap opera dramatics & awkward regency style of dialogue. Even the names of everything (characters, species, spaceships, acronyms) was cringe as hell. This writer is supposedly a professional so how this did happen? I'm going to assume this book was written by a teenager & published under her pen name by accident without being checked by an editor. That's the only explanation.
Chapter 1 of this book is the heroine being kidnapped by her ex lover and her ex best friend. They are holding her for ransom.
Then we "skip" ahead to her living in a lab with her grandfather. We are told that off page she was rescued. She claims a sharkman rescued her. Well, I would have liked to see that. But it happened off page. At this point, I've spent more time on page with her ex than with the hero.
I kept reading and there wasn't enough of the hero and heroine for me. It seemed like the focus of the story was on how can I save the hero from this lab?
It's hard to rate this book because although I enjoyed it, there were quite a few parts that annoyed me. The female lead Isla was very annoying with no backbone at all her constant saying it's complicated whenever her shark man asked for a explanation for her changing behavior really waxed my nerves as well as her back and forth feelings for him. Story line was ok but there times when it seemed like characters would appear or disappear then reappear without explanation. The beginning read like it should have been in the middle instead and the epilogue read like another chapter.
Really I only made it a few chapters in. There was an excessive use of superfluous words, over dramatic descriptions and boring typical villain like roles. We’re all suspending reality here when we’re reading scifi romance, but this author takes it too far.
Jade is back... with this romantic Shape of Water themed story
Catman was the favorite of this series, but I believe this story has topped it, and is probably one of Jade's better stories. It's like she's gone back to her roots, even though this is a MF story.
Ever since I've seen and then read, Shape of Water, I've been craving a more romantic and steamier version. While Sharkman can stand well on its own, it's not a five chili pepper tale, even though there are sex scenes in it. I understand why, since there's so much going on as it is.
Jade was honest when she posted that this is an angsty and a darker story than what she usually writes, but wouldn't be considered gray by today's standards. There's drama and betrayal, and yet its a delicious slow burn romance between a sharkman and the woman he had rescued once before.
I wasn't prepared for what happened in the book, but I'm happy to be able read this. My only complaint is that I wished it was longer, because it was a fun and interesting read.
I can't wait to dive into Wolf King next. I hope Jade keeps this style now that she seems to have found her groove again.
2.5 stars. FMC is a rich heiress coming from a line of scientists. The story opens up with her being put in a life threatening situation by people that seems…really forced?? Like, I didn’t fully believe their motive. She’s then rescued by the MMC, who later gets captured. Eventually, he ends up found by her suspicious grandfather who brings him to their family lab. Obviously, they bonded the night he saved her and they’re meant to be together. She helps him escape and they go to his planet and live happily ever after.
Reads like fated mates, but I’m not sure if it was that or love at first sight. There’s a lot of expansion dumping/telling vs. showing. Slow burn, but a rough slow burn because I felt like there’s sooooo much redundant internal dialogue. I ended up skimming a lot and felt like I didn’t miss much. The spice wasn’t that spicy and would’ve liked to see them do it on the water versus on land where the MMC gives off beaches whale vibes lmao
