Rate this book

Eye opening

Well written and organized. Chose the book because the author was recommended by other authors I have read . The subject intrigued me. I learned a lot. Will be reading this book and possibly others by Mr. King.

Interesting and well organized, but not quite what I expected. I'm a speech therapist and communications person hoping to find ways to help communicatively handicapped people open up. Other than my wrong expectation, I thought it was a good book.

This is an interesting book on the subject of reading other fellow human beings. One big takeaway for me was conversations aren’t just about verbalizing to each other, they are so much more dynamic. Body language, micro and macro facial expressions, dialogue and context and active listening all play a role in how to tell if someone is being truthful or not. Makes perfect sense to me now and seems rather obvious, but I had honestly never thought about that before reading this book.
The only reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars is because I feel like the author is using this information to detect deceit, rather than using it to have more meaningful conversations. That may seem nit picky to some, but I feel as though others can sense genuineness versus finding information to dominate a conversation, which ultimately leads to not truly understanding that person for who they are and what they really value and believe. This isn’t a “I hate this book type of criticism,” it’s just an opinion that I felt while reading the last chapter. The author absolutely has a commanding understanding of human communication that I myself do not come close to possessing. And this book is definitely worth the read if you’re interested in understanding more about communication and people in general.

Highly educational!

It looked like a good buy. So I brought it to my attention and I've learned a bit. I gave it five because I learned about small tactics involving persuasion and detecting liars. Its hard to understand but you'll literally have to expand your horizon, Put it into practice and such.

Excellent little book about reading people. It's an easy read with review of key points at the end of each chapter.
