Don't let doubts hold you back from achieving lasting recovery and transformation.
When I first downloaded this book, I really thought it would be helpful for understanding and interacting with students in my school personnel role. Don't get me wrong, it is. Not from the role of a psychologist, but from the role as a human, education provider and parent. You really get an understanding of the "inner child" and the importance of a healthy childhood, versus one that is filled with challenges and battles. Furthermore, you get a glimpse of how these challenges and battles can impact a child/individual for years to come. For me, this is especially manifested in their education and social interaction difficulties.
This is a 3 part book series that the author offers, which is meant to function as a toolkit and information source. This is not meant to substitute for working with a psychologist, but maybe rather in tandem. Everyone's path is unique. With that said, this is a toolkit that is divided up into 7 weeks. For me, that, along with the title, is confusing and in conflict with the message that we are all unique in our struggles and our timelines.
This toolkit touches on a wide variety of topics including but not limited to self-reflection, positive psychology, creating stability and safety, meditation techniques, cognitive behavior training, exposure therapy, art therapy, emotional regulation, journaling, setting boundaries, identifying sources of shame and guilt, forgiving techniques, self-care routines, creating empathy and so much more. As you can see from this list, many of these bits of information are tools that we could all use in our toolkits from time to time.

Overall, this is a quick read, broken up into small, manageable chunks and contains some information that we all could benefit from.
Empowering and inspiring change in old beliefs that holds someone back from being the creator of their own life. Maria Clarke’s “Healing Your Wounded Inner Child in 7 Weeks” gives a plus in her book by including audio exercises.
This book is emotionally uplifting, a sigh of relief. Maria Clarke establishes a connection with her readers by offering a glimpse into her own life that became a motivation for this book. This transparency is what creates a connection with her readers.
In the introduction Maria Clarke describes the inner child as “who we were in our formative years”. Then she goes on to describe that our brain is malleable and capable of change. If a belief can be learned, then it can be unlearned, and new beliefs can be formed. New beliefs that release us from our stuck state of mind. I think understanding our personal belief system is the first attribute to healing.
The wrier breaks healing down into seven-week increments. Nobody heals overnight. This acknowledges the reality that healing is a journey.
Empowerment, self-reflection, mindfulness, art therapy, healthy coping, self-love, and maintaining healthy boundaries is just a part of the seven weeks Maria Clarke empowers the reader with. This is a keeper book that can be used as a life-long reference.
This is a comprehensive tool that allows you to recognize current triggers and deeply rooted childhood trauma. It provides explanations and takes you through a compassionate seven week “course” of concrete exercises, guiding the reader step-by-step with provided practical tools and techniques such as meditations and various forms of journaling (to say the least) with the intention to help heal Self and your Inner Child and move forward in lasting, loving, positive and supportive relationships. My biggest takeaway is the inspiration to write as well allowing myself the self-care in setting boundaries in my work environment and personal life, as well cutting negativity out of my life and replacing people of toxicity with a gentle, respectful, supportive circle of friends and family, and to become compassionate and kind to myself and to others. This workbook is GREAT in terms of self-help, healing, boundaries, and moving forward with compassion.
I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.
The author effectively emphasizes that at the root of healing is the component of realizing that our experiences in the early development years remain central to the core of our being. If you are seeking your authentic (true) self, this is a hopeful and interesting guidebook to reinforce support and provide informed advice to move you in the desired direction. The text reflects a journey into psychology to help heal the wounds from the formative years. The author has experienced her own challenging path of emotional battles and personal struggles. You can feel her personal connection to the text. She writes well and keeps the reader engaged. Don’t remain trapped within yourself. Let this knowledgeable, easy-to-follow, and simple-to-implement advice from an expert help you move on successfully after trauma.
I found the book's approach to addressing deep-seated emotional wounds exceptionally compelling. I thought it was a great guide that seamlessly blends insightful narratives with actionable steps. The 7-week structure is not just a gimmick; it's a well-crafted journey that gently navigates you through complex emotions. What Infound to be most helpful are the concrete exercises and advanced techniques rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, that provide practical tools for lasting healing. The author has an empathetic voice that resonated with me and made me feel like I had a trusted companion to help walk me through the hard task of healing my inner child. This book a powerful toolkit for anyone seeking genuine emotional healing. I highly recommend it for its depth, clarity, and transformative impact.
I find that when I typically read books like this, I already am aware of most of the information, but this one definitely had some new information and techniques I didn’t know prior. I can just tell this is written by someone who knows what they are talking about and knows how to explain it well without being repetitive. I really liked the audio components and I think this book would work even better as a whole audiobook. I really enjoyed the chapter on guilt and shame. It’s not something that I find talked about in many self-help books or at least not many that actually help to overcome. I’m not really sure I like the structure being for 7 weeks. I read this book in less than a week and in general, I don’t really think there should be a time frame on healing.
This book is a great resource for individuals who are on a journey to heal any kind of childhood trauma or psychological/ emotional issues from the past. We know that, until those issues are made known or validated, we can’t begin the healing process. Every chapter in this book contains breaks down helpful information, tool and techniques, in the form of exercises to help in the journey. I appreciated the fact that the intro had every chapter categorized so that it’s possible to skip around. I highly recommend this super helpful workbook.
Ppl I think many of us don’t realize that our inner child shapes who we are, but how our inner child can also hold a sense of hope and possibility. The steps in this book could open a whole new world for those of us who have childhood trauma. Starting with creating safety and stability. Moving through the weekly “lessons,” I learned about core wounds, healthy coping mechanisms, how my behavior patterns are shaped by my inner child, how to create a plan for ongoing healing, and a lot of meditation and journaling practices. This book is a great reminder that life is a journey and healing is a journey, not a destination.
"Healing Your Wounded Inner Child in 7 Weeks" by Maria Clarke offers a step-by-step toolkit for healing past trauma through cognitive behavioral therapy. The book provides concrete exercises, practical tools, and advanced techniques for lasting healing. Overall, the book provides a foundational education on the concept of the inner child, types of wounds, ineffective behaviors, and a process for identifying wounds and adopting more functional tools and boundaries.
this is one of the rare books that are truly useful
in love how by getting a kindle version of it you also get free audio version (using both at the same time really helps you focus and emerge yourself in it)
