His work is characterised by lucid prose, social criticism, opposition to all totalitarianism (both fascism and stalinism), and support of democratic socialism.
Orwell is best known for his allegorical novella Animal Farm (1945) and the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), although his works also encompass literary criticism, poetry, fiction and polemical journalism. Die Essays sollten meines Erachtens zuerst gelesen werde, um ein besseres Verständnis für Orwells Perspektive in seinen Werken Farm der Tiere und 1984 nachvollziehen zu können! Gute Werke!

This box set includes two of Orwell’s most well-known novels and a collection of essays, all in one beautiful box set.
Now that I’ve finally read and reviewed all three, I can say I truly enjoyed this set! I love the modern cover designs and how perfectly they match on my shelves.

Even though I usually don’t gravitate toward political reads, these felt like 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙩-𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙨 and I’m glad I picked them up.
𝘈𝘯𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘭 𝘍𝘢𝘳𝘮 ended up being my 𝙛𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚; it’s such a slim novella, yet it feels much bigger than its size. 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙮 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙥𝙖𝙜𝙚.

This collection includes 16 𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙗𝙮 𝙂𝙚𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙚 𝙊𝙧𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙡 and it gives a deeper understanding of why he writes in the first place.
Most of the essays deal with 𝙒𝙒2, 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙢, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙖𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙢, and what’s striking is how 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙩 they still feel 𝙩𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙮. Orwell’s observations might be decades old, but their sharpness hasn’t faded.

What is reality, if the collective decides what’s real?
A truly thought-provoking read. It took me a while to get into it. Some parts flow better than others, and the middle section can drag a bit. But by the end, it all comes together in a haunting, unforgettable way.

Normalerweise greife ich nicht so gern zu politischen Büchern, aber diese fühlten sich einfach wie 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙨-𝙢𝙖𝙣-𝙜𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣-𝙝𝙖𝙗𝙚𝙣 an – und ich bin froh, dass ich sie gelesen habe.
𝘈𝘯𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘭 𝘍𝘢𝘳𝘮 war dabei mein 𝙁𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩: eine so schmale Novelle, die sich dennoch viel größer anfühlt, als sie ist. 𝘋𝘪𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘎𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘪𝘣𝘦𝘯 𝘯𝘰𝘤𝘩 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘯𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘥𝘦𝘮 𝘓𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘮 𝘒𝘰𝘱𝘧.
Das Buch Die grossen Werke enthält 16 𝙀𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙫𝙤𝙣 𝙂𝙚𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙚 𝙊𝙧𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙡 und gibt ein tieferes Verständnis dafür, warum er überhaupt schreibt.
Die meisten Essays befassen sich mit 𝙙𝙚𝙢 𝙕𝙬𝙚𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝙒𝙚𝙡𝙩𝙠𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙜, 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙢𝙪𝙨 𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙖𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙨𝙢𝙪𝙨, und das Beeindruckende ist, wie 𝙖𝙠𝙩𝙪𝙚𝙡𝙡 sie sich auch heute noch anfühlen. Orwells Beobachtungen sind zwar Jahrzehnte alt, aber ihre Schärfe hat nichts verloren.

Was ist Realität, wenn die Gemeinschaft bestimmt, was wirklich ist?
Ein wirklich zum Nachdenken anregendes Buch.
Ich brauchte eine Weile, um hineinzukommen. Manche Teile lesen sich flüssiger als andere, und der Mittelteil zieht sich ein bisschen. Aber am Ende fügt sich alles zu einem eindrucksvollen, unvergesslichen Ganzen zusammen.

1984 - ein wenig verstörend und irgendwie wieder/immer noch (?) aktuell....
