Rate this book
With a career-ending injury, Olympic kickboxer Sheila Stone is forced back to her small hometown, where her older sister, the local sheriff, offers her a spot on the local police force. When a body appears in Great Salt Lake, it sends shockwaves through the quiet community, and Sheila must draw on her fighting skills in a deadly race to save the next victim in time….

With her Olympic dreams crumbled, Sheila, 28, struggles to find her place back home. She is surrounded by reminders of what could have been, stuck inside the shadow of her older the golden child, the respected sheriff. But when her sister persuades her to join the local police force, Sheila’s life and career start anew.

As she hunts serial killers, Sheila notices clues that others miss and offers a perspective that no one else has. She realizes she has a talent outside of fighting, and that she has a chance to embrace a new life in Salt Lake—a life outside the ring.

This is a different kind of ring, though. Sheila quickly realizes that to survive, she will need more than just her strength—she’ll need a brilliance to match that of even the most diabolical killer….

Can Sheila win this match? Or will she finally lose it all?

A page-turning and harrowing suspense thriller featuring a brilliant and tortured protagonist, the SHEILA STONE series is a riveting mystery, packed with suspense, twists and turns, revelations, and driven by a breakneck pace that will keep you flipping pages late into the night.

Sheila has to make decisions regarding her life: is the Police Force really for her? The mystery surrounding her mother's death is also tormenting her, and her father seems to have unraveled new leads. She is tasked to work on a homicide case whose culprit turns out to be a serial killer and that will make her stay - for sure - as a Police Officer or leave it. A good story and entertaining.

Y’all! The AUDIOBOOK is awful. It’s read by “Vivienne” — AI. It’s pretty realistic at first, then you think that either “Blake” made a lot of typos that no one fixed or this is a lazy narrator. Then you realize it is AI and you are irritated because it is so terrible.
It’s not monotonous, as in toneless, but in that the tone is the same pattern, regardless of punctuation. Sometimes Finley has a slightly lower voice, but sometimes it’s Sheila or Nat.
Sometimes, Vivienne can’t read the most basic of words! A few examples:
Anger = “ayn-jer”
Brushed = “broo-shed”
Joined = “join-id”
Separately = “sep-ayr-ut-lee”
Vehicle = “vuh-hick-lee”

In chapter 23, I don’t even know what it should be saying, but I heard:
“…she found herself questioning whether this man could truly be connected to the brutal murders they were investigating. His blue eyes OH-YAY-KAY-YEE. Blue eyes held no trace of deceit or fear.”

Ummm what?!

Not only are the random mispronunciations distracting, but Viv will read the dialogue however the heck she wants, not how “Blake” explicitly says. One example:

Chapter 8:
-So, where did you say you were hiking?
-“EW, just around!” Jensen mum-blid

I emailed and suggested they never use “Viv” again, as it does a huge disservice to the book. Though it wasn’t an amazing book, anyhow. Lots of repeated phrasings and why/how does every murder get solved in 2-3 days (Jessie Hunt — I’m looking at you)?!

My life doubts

With my dreams of a Olympic gold medal in kickboxing down the tubes, what is next for me? My sister is head of the police department in our small town. She's asked my to ride along with her and her partner on case. Is this maybe something I would want to do? Read my story.

These audiobooks have saved my sanity for the long trips to the rehabilitation hospital and back. I brought my mom home today so those long drives came to an end but not before I finished Silent Night by Blake Pierce, Book 3 in the series. I like the characters so that keeps me picking these books. The book is not going to win any awards but it keeps me company. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have lived by the Great Salt Lake most of my life.
There are things in the book that could not happen where they are set.
The author should have done some more research. He is giving the reader incorrect information.
Other than that, I enjoyed the book.

another gripping story

What a close call Sheila. But you’re always a step ahead. Thinking with fast lightning abilities. You did a great job.

Intrigue and Hustle

This book takes off right from the start. It's action packed and Sheila has a great six sense. Thrilling all the way.

I typically like Blake Pierce's books, I like his writing style. However, this one was a hit and a miss. It felt very amateurish. I could hardly wit for it to be over.
