“ To begin to know oneself is to start the process of excavating the truth of who we are from those layers of influence.” I feel so deeply reassured and moved by Black Thought’s memoir as a creative and one who is also learning myself through my roots and detaching myself from generational trauma and patterns. His whole story from childhood, growing up in South Philly, forced to be independent , in survival mode as his nature of living, it’s all overwhelming honestly. Black Thought’s stories and experience with loss, death, violence, all transformed, and expressed through his artistry is commendable, beautiful, authentic, but disheartening to know the source/reason for his impeccable creativity. His life is pure alchemy in my eyes, and through his memoir, I am reminded that loss, death, setbacks can all be transformed (with dedication) into fulfilling your destiny. “ But just says you boldly and bravely examine these parts of yourself, identifying what’s broken and releasing what doesn’t serve you at the same time courageously choose the pure and honest dreams of your youth. Believe in the possibility that you can be all that you always wanted. Give yourself unyielding permission to become. Trust the upcycle.” I trust the upcycle
