Rate this book
Trust takes years to build but seconds to shatter.

I haven’t seen Leon since we aged out of the system and lost touch, but all my old feelings come rushing back. He’s the ghost of my past, the crush I buried deep because he was straight—or so I thought.

Why am I entertaining thoughts of my hot ex-best friend at our foster Mom’s funeral? Jeez, we just have to get through today and go our separate ways – again. I can do that.

Then, lightning strikes…Leon is NOT straight! What?

Lightning never strikes twice, right? Wrong! Strike two is a real passion killer…literally.

Desire turns dangerous when I discover Leon’s new role—a mercenary for The Company, and I’m his next target. I’m just a computer nerd caught in the crosshairs, but I have dangerous secrets of my own.

When a twist of fate turns the hunter into my protector, trust becomes a weapon and a lifeline. Can I trust the man who’s supposed to be my enemy?

Trust? A casualty of our twisted reality because now, we’re on the run. I can’t see how both of us can survive, but…I have a plan.

I’ll put my trust in Leon, but if he fails me…I’m dead.

Trust becomes a dangerous game, hearts are on the line, and survival is anything but certain. Can the bond we forged years ago survive the secrets now tearing us apart?

Trust takes years to build but seconds to shatter.
I really love Romeo Alexander's books. No matter which of his series that you are reading, and I have read and own them all. He writes stories that you just can't stop reading, with characters that may be morally on the gray side but still manage to pull on your heartstrings. My favorite is the "Men of Fairlake" series, a small town, where everybody knows but doesn't necessarily love everyone.

Here we meet another fantastic couple...Leon and Seb, who will catch your imagination right from the start. They were foster care kids who turned shady operatives for even shadier organizations. They meet again after being apart for years, but despite being on opposite sides, each one realizes there is only one side that actually matters; and that's being at the side of the one you love and being willing to do literally anything to keep them safe.

At first meeting, I found it difficult to really like Seb. He was closed off and very calculating. He assessed everything and everyone with a cold detachment. Leon was his "polar opposite"... a completely open book. You didn't ever have to wonder or guess about Leon. He was a skilled mercenary, but he has a "code" that he lived by faithfully, but that was not at all Seb's thing. As their story progressed, you can warm up a little to Seb, especially when he finally opens up showing us a completely different side of him...a side that only Leon could bring out. The back-and-forth communication between them was sometimes funny, witty and entertaining.

By the end, I couldn't wait to see how Romeo Alexander was going to give them their "Happy-Ever-After", and I have read enough of his books to know that his characters always get one...glad to say that I wasn't disappointed.

Leon and Seb will not only catch your imagination but also your heart. Like all of this author's work, I thoroughly enjoyed every single page.

Just a 3 from me

Sorry to say it's not one of my favourite books to read, parts of it were ok but other bits seemed to drag out, it was really long winded. I usually like Romeo Alexanders books but I really struggled with this one.

There’s a lot to like in here, but the romance is a little lacking and it feels like every narrative point lasts about 50% too long.

Seb and Leon are reunited after years apart, they are full of grief over the loss of their foster mother, but they soon discover that the secret feelings they had for one another are still present. They have both changed over the years, but the core of them is still the same, and is what each man sees in the other. Just as things are heating up, the you-know-what hits the fan, turning their first passionate encounter into an intense and dangerous situation that only gets worse. Trust is a major issue for both men, and what follows is full of twists, doubts, quick thinking maneuvers and counter maneuvers, and violence.
The majority of this book is fast paced, but there are a couple times when it was a little too wordy.
Seb and Leon are fantastic, each with their own unique characteristics, and very good at what they do.
Seb is brilliant with computers, getting information, and planning. He seems cold and distanced, but that is a form of self protection, and he has a dry, snarky humor.
Leon thinks of himself as a mercenary or assassin, he is violent and deadly. He also has his own code that he won't break, making sure only the nastiest of people deserve his form of justice.
Their banter is highly entertaining, and despite their trust issues, they work well together. The deep connection of their past is the foundation for the love and trust they eventually admit. However, I didn't feel a lot of love between them, the connection is solid based on the past and the intensity of the events that occur in the book, but the love is just beginning for them - as is their future together as a couple, and for working together.
One sentence from Seb kind of explains them each quite well. "I was a planner, meticulous and careful, but he was driven by purpose."

Overall, I really enjoyed the dark, action packed, exciting adventure of this book, and I would definitely recommend it.
For me personally, I would have liked an epilogue to tie up some loose ends from their story.

Reading this book was like watching an action movie with the extra benefits of complex emotions, warmth and banter, love and crime, humor, and wit. It is a masterfully written literary work, compelling, satisfying, witty yet profound and emotionally charged, action-packed and balanced mixture of love, trauma, and danger that will keep you on your toes and make you turn pages until the end.
We follow two opposite characters on the run to preserve their lives and futures, reconnecting after years of separation and falling in love while chased by criminals. Despite their flaws and questionable life choices, the main characters are unique, charming, and loveable. The context of their childhood trauma highlights and enhances their personality traits.
Their relationship is warm yet challenging, as are their personalities. The quote “I couldn’t have loved someone more difficult without dating a puzzle box.” captures the essence of their relationship and opposite personality traits.
The fast-paced and engaging action plot is full of suspense, danger, and thrill, while their relationship storyline is both warm and complex at the same time.
The best feature of the book is definitely the captivating and masterful writing. The author uses words to create a vivid picture of the characters, their personalities, past and present, emotional and rational experiences in depth. The dialogs swings from profound wisdom to witty and entertaining banter.
R. Alexander managed to create a work that made me all warm and swoony and, at the same time, emotional and intrigued.
The imaginative mixture of a multilayered and engaging plot, intriguing characters, emotional depth, and suspense makes this book a genuine page-turner ideal for readers seeking engaging and challenging reads, addressing complex issues, combined with suspense and conflicting and “opposite attracts” characters.
Standalone, no cliffhanger.
This review reflects my independent and genuine thoughts on the book, which I received as an ARC.

Another marvellous thriller from Romeo

I love Romeo's books. His talent lies in creating stories that you can't stop reading, with characters that may be morally grey but pull on your heartstrings nevertheless. The first books of his I read were The Cruise series, which was quite light and relatively angst-free compared to what followed. Next came a few standalones which were action-packed thrillers, followed by the far more angsty and heartfelt Cresson Point series (the first of which starred my favourite Romeo character, Kameron), then the Men of Fairlake series, small town, angsty and edgy. Every single one of these books compelling and unputdownable.
Leon and Seb were another fantastic couple who caught my imagination from the very beginning. Foster care kids turned shady operatives for shady organisations, meeting again after years apart and, despite being on opposite sides, each man realises there is only one side that matters; staying at the side of the one they love and will do anything to keep safe.
I found it harder to like Seb at first, closed off and calculating, assessing everything and everyone with cold detachment, whereas Leon was an open book in comparison. He may be a skilled mercenary but he has a code that he lives by, and I didn't get that from Seb. As their story progressed, I warmed to Seb as he opened up a bit and we saw a different side of him that Leon brought out. The banter between them was fun, witty and entertaining, and Leon tripping Seb up with his insight and throwaway lines was such fun.
By the end, I couldn't wait to see how Romeo was going to give them their HEA, and I wasn't disappointed. Leon and Seb caught my imagination and my heart, and I thoroughly enjoyed every page.

Wow, this book had me on the edge of my seat once the sh— hit the fan. Leading up to it, the reconnection Leon and Seb made, harking back to the two people they had been as boys, set things up perfectly as they headed into this unknown situation, needing to be able to trust each other, but not sure enough of the people they had become to be sure it was possible. Both had secrets in their pasts and their jobs, and putting those aside was difficult. Neither one was the same as the persons they once knew, but the essence and the connection was still the same, allowing them to take that leap and trust to an extent, but always with that bit of doubt.
Lots of action with a bit of stress on my part as things kept escalating, but fascinating to see Seb’s mind constantly working, sifting information, evaluating scenarios and calculating odds, trying to stay one step ahead. Leon was doing much the same thing, but from a different, and at times more practical, perspective.
The book was exciting and kept me off balance much of the time, with an outcome I wasn’t expecting, but one that did make perfect sense when thinking about it. I don’t think the outcome I had expected would have worked.
Anyway, loved the book, adored both Leon and Seb and their interactions, the dual point of view added more than just a third person would have, loved Leon’s sense of humor and Seb’s more pragmatic approach, and the way both were able to tap into their more emotional side after so many years keeping it tamped down. A definite must read if you are looking for a book to grab the reader, pull them in, and keep them on their toes the whole time. Deserves way more than 5 stars.

Will their bond be enough??
Sebastian and Leon met at a foster home. Seb’s parents had been killed in a car crash and Leon’s mother didn’t want him.
She didn’t want to waste money, feeding him when she could have drugs. And a real unlikely friendship began. Leon became the protector. They managed to stay in the same foster home till they hit 18 before they went off to embark on their own lives. But now that their foster mother had died, they were both coming back together for her funeral. And it was obvious that there was an attraction between them. But then life got in the way when Seb’s life was put in the balance. You see Sebastian was very good with computers and he had worked for the collective but he had been taking information and storing it away, and this meant the collective had put a hit out on him. The surprise was that Leon was an assassin for the company and he got the job to take Sebastian‘s life. But he couldn’t and he made the decision to keep him safe and find out why he wanted the information he took.
This is really quite a fast pace book. Sebastian is a very guarded person. He doesn’t give out information freely even to Leon who is putting his life in danger to protect him. It’s like he goes around the answers which frustrates Leon. Out of the two Leon, I could take to more. But I will admit that Leon, did bring out a side of Seb that was more appealing. I’ve got to say the banter between these two was electric and it made me smile throughout this book. A great read.

While I knew going in that this was a book that would have action movie kinds of sequences, I didn’t expect them to be this vivid. I have read many books by this author, and most of them have been more on the plots revolving around personal relationships and family. This had all those elements, plus chasing and shooting and crashing and bleeding, and all of that! The action sequences played out like a movie in my mind, and I really liked how the plot wasn’t 100% revealed to the reader – there were things that are mysterious to the reader, and the title really says it all and you are not sure of everyone’s loyalties and motivations.
That being said, there is still romance, and the relationship between the two main characters has its depth and complications. The book left me wanting more. That’s a testament to the good writing but also that I wanted it to go on a little bit more. A little more wrapup, maybe a satisfying epilogue. But anytime my critique is that I want more of some thing, I feel like that’s also a compliment. as always, this author delivers. I hope there is a great audiobook version soon. I would love to listen to this read to me while I do some thing mundane and safe like laundry or yardwork!.

This book is a friends to lovers story with non-stop action. This is the story of Seb and Leon. Both men grew up and became best friends in the same foster home. At 18, they both went their separate ways. They reunite for a horrible reason. Their foster mother has died and both have come back for the funeral. The two men quickly fall back into their childhood pattern of behavior. Trust is reignited within them both. And they finally want to act upon the attraction they feel towards each other. But then their phones ring and all bets are off. Seb is a genius with computers and has set a dangerous game in motion with The Collective. All he needs is for Leon to save him. Unfortunately Leon is an assassin for The Company. He is given the job of eliminating Seb. Life definitely gets interesting from there. This is their story. It is very well written and easy to read. The story is fast paced and keeps your attention. I loved the relationship that existed between Seb and Leon. I will admit to taking quite a while to warm up to Seb but it is worth it in the end. I really enjoyed this book.

Here is the story of two men in quasi-legal groups: The Collective and The Company.

They had been friends in the same foster home together and only found each other again after their foster mother died from cancer.

Then Leon gets a call from his handler that he needed to kill Sebastian because he had collected info that was detrimental to The Collective. After they both admitted that they were in love with each other back when they lived together and Leon figured out he was bi.

Then it became a story of running for their lives as the two groups kept sending people to kill them both. Sebastian wasn't sure he trusted Leon--even though he knew Leon probably did love him and Sebastian was a planner, a thinker and Leon was an assassin who knew how to improvise in any situation.
Together they take down the Collective--sort of.

You'll have to read this Jason Bournesque story with a gay couple to find out the rest. Totally worth it. (although some of the things that happen are . . . a little over the top, but no more than any of this genre.

A FAST PACED SUSPENSEFUL THRILL!

Sebastian and Leon met at a foster home at 14 until 18 then went their different ways. After the military Leon was an assassin for The Company and Sebastian worked for the Collective they went to the funeral for their foster mother. Sebastian got a call from a colleague about their being a hit put out on him since The Collective found out that he had been keeping information on them. Leon got a call to pick up Sebastian to drop him off at a location for him to be taken care of. They got away from the house but then were found again but then got away again and went to Sebastian’s bunker. Sebastian leaked some information then drugged Leon left a message for Leon to act on to get him free from the The Collective. Good book!.

This book is hold your breath, bite your nails f@cking amazing!

Leon and Sebastián were teens when they met after being placed in Miranda's foster home. They came to be very close friends. However, after aging out of foster care, they went their separate ways. After many, many years of no contact, they came together for Miranda's funeral. That is when the action began. Let me sat holy cow things got insane. I found myself holding my breath at moments and laughing at others. This book is so action-packed. Talk about a page turner. I didn't want to put it down. I wanted it to jump to the end to see how everything would end up. However, I did not. This is a definite must-read. You will not be disappointed. It is a standalone with a HEA.

Wow what a captivating read! I was completely drawn in to this story not only by the angsty, dark, suspenseful but witty, fun, endearing and entertaining storyline but also by the excellent characters. Romeo really excelled himself in creating Leon and Seb. From a troubled upbring and being foster care kids together to ending up going separate ways when they age out of the system. They meet again at their foster mums funeral and when Leon realises Seb isn't straight as he thought it completely throws him, then he finds out they are working on opposite sides and he is Seb's next target. They end up going on the run and as they journey they realise that to stand any chance of succeeding both in staying alive and in their burgeoning relationship trust is the key to getting their hea.

Romeo Alexander’s new book, Can I Trust you is a friends to lovers action romance. It is a rip roaring good tale that starts off at a good pace and then cuts loose and does not stop while it is going. There is just enough balance between little slowdowns and action to keep you interested and to fill in more of the twists and turns of the storyline. The main characters, Leon and Sebastian, are very well developed and some of those twists and turns are from the story of their lives. The story is told through their eyes without any repeating of any of the events and it is extremely well done. I want to put some spoilers in this review but I won’t so I will leave it at that. I loved it. Romeo, you have done it again!!! Bravo!.

Brilliant Men walking side by side

A great team they will make once they can fully trust each other .Sebastian is cold and closed off but he always was soft for Leon and he is brilliant, secretive, elusive and dangerous. Leon has always been protective of Seb since they were kids and nothing has changed since now everyone in The Company and The Collective are after him.Leon is brilliant in his own right a highly trained killer who was tasked with taking Seb in but no he will not hand him over ever.
What I didn't like was the overly drawn out scenes of inner dialogue and the over analyzing of everything happening around people, things, and emotions. Every word or response was said with to much control and was not natural to humans. No spontaneous relations well except for Leon. I really did enjoy this book and would follow if there is a destined series.

I hadn't read any Kindle Alexander prior to this book despite his books being Kindle Unlimited. Going to have to rectify that.
Leon and Sebastian met in foster care at age 14. When their foster mother dies, both come home for her funeral. They have a lot in common. Both are morally gray, both are gay thinking the other is straight. And both work for a shadow group called the Collective.
Sebastian is given a contract on Leon courtesy the Collective. The story, which was pretty darn good before that, becomes a tense nail biter with no HEA guaranteed. I blame Alexander's excellent prose for actually liking these two and caring about what happens.
I really enjoyed this book. A fun, maybe not so quick read. Looking forward to more from this author.

'“I have to say, I’m impressed with the speed you tied me up. Now, was that your military training, or are you really into expedient BDSM?” he asked.'

“Nothing like a fireside interrogation,” he said, hitting the syllables on the ‘interrogation’ harshly. “Gives the entire affair a certain romantic touch.”

I loved this book. It was a fast-paced adventure and I was quickly hooked. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Sebastian and Leon. Both characters were well developed and I loved the history and chemistry between them. When it wasn't fast-paced action, I enjoyed them talking and opening up to each other a bit. They each have their own strong suits and compliment each other well. But amid doubts and uncertainties, who to trust? Another great read from Romeo Alexander. 5 stars.

This was a fun read, I liked all the twists and turns throughout Sebastian and Leon’s story. The author does a strong job creating two main characters that are sketchy, complex, and also uniquely likable. I especially loved the flashbacks to their teen years living with their foster family. I also appreciate how the story unfolded. You get to know Seb and Leon bit by bit, which keeps you guessing and turning the pages. I liked that they were not easy to know, and sometimes not easy to like. I liked their dynamic together, the mix of attraction and distrust was compelling. This had a wonderful twisty plot and two excellent main characters, it’s a really well done suspenseful romance.

Seb and Leon haven't seen each other for years and when they finally reunite, they are both grieving over the loss of their foster mother. As they spent more time together, they realized their hidden feelings for each other were still present. Even though they both had changed over the years, they still saw the core of who they were in each other. However, just as things started to heat up, something terrible happened that turned their first intimate encounter into a dangerous and intense situation that only got worse. Trust was a major issue for both men and the following events were filled with twists, doubts, quick-thinking maneuvers and counter maneuvers, and violence. Can I Trust You is action-packed, slow build, romantic, and I enjoyed it from start to finish.

The Company. The Collective. The Table.

I'm just beside myself with how good this book is! I didn't know what to expect when I got this suspense story. But with all the twists and turns, it kept me guessing what was coming up. I loved Leon who despite being an assassin, wants to do good for the world by taking out the people who deserve it. I loved Sebastian with all his quirks, stubbornness, ability to control his emotions, and calculating every possible thing that could happen. The plot and details are so intricately woven and described that you will be able to easily visualize what is happening. It's as if Romeo Alexander is an actual assassin and a master hacker himself. I wholeheartedly recommend this and think you will enjoy reading this as much as I did.

Romeo Alexander has a way of writing compelling and engaging stories that just keeps you turning pages to see "what happens next" well after you should be asleep, but I think his strength is in creating interesting, realistic, and complex characters with depth and feeling that make you absolutely invested in seeing how things work out for them. This is a long, but quickly paced and well-written story with action and drama, and emotional entanglements that absolutely shine from the page. Highly recommended read.

This had a slow start, but once it got going I did enjoy the dynamic between Seb and Leon, and how their history pops up throughout their reconnection. However, I wish we had spent more down time with them while they were on the run so they could get to know each other a little better in the present day, which would make the romance aspect feel less like insta love. Obviously they had history and lingering feelings from when they were teens, but that was mostly what their present day love was based on, which didn’t feel fully realistic given the direction their lives had taken.

Also, minor detail, but I am really bummed we don’t find out what Miranda left them in her will.

First. Love this Cover! Seb and Leon still feel the pull for each other even after years apart after Foster Care. The death of their foster mother brings them back together. Their chemistry and feelings are genuine and strong, but so are both of their trust issues. These two have not had many people in their corner. They have grown up as different people. We have the brains, Seb and the brawn, Leon so to speak. Seb was a bit snarky, and I loved it. Leon was a bit violent and intense, and I loved it. Wonderful balance of romance and suspense as these two pair in all ways!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It is a thrilling action packed story. Leon and Sebastian meet as teenagers in a foster home where become friends as much as they were able to. Years later at their foster mother's funeral, they reconnect. The attraction from before is stronger and before they can act on it, things go south. While on the run, they finally take the final step including admitting their love. I liked how they trust each other to work together to come out on top in the world they live in.

This is a fast paced narrative with some high stakes— former foster brothers who are reunited under some fairly dire circumstances (Shadowy organizations? Assassination contracts? Choices to be made? All there). Seb and Leon make for interesting contrasts— their shared experiences give them a layer of closeness but their deeply different personalities make for some solid chemistry and dynamic banter. Overall, an easy book to pick up and a hard one to put down. 4.5 stars.

"I see flirting is on your list of skills..."

It's going to be difficult to write a spoiler free review of this book because there's just so much going on! I'd be willing to say there is more plot and action than romance. I adored both Leon and Sebastian. These two are the personification of opposites attract. I loved watching their relationship develop as they fell in love. Despite being so different they truly complimented one another. The end was complete but I really wish there had been an epilogue. I'm wondering if it's because there might one day be more to their story.
