I had a fun time reading this book! The story is very interesting and creative, a peak dark academia story mixed with a detective. The prose felt a little bit forced at times, with adjectives put into sentences to (probably) make the text seem more literary. Dialogue was hard to follow especially in the beginning, I had to backtrack a few times once I figured out who was saying what.
This book gave me a dark thriller vibe. The author nailed dark academia perfectly. The writing style was complex , clearly descriptive, and very emotional, which added texture to the overall story. The non-linear narrative gives you a lot of the back story from the main character, Robert Melling.
This was a compelling tale of suicide and detective Melling trying to uncover the truth. The narrative dives deep into the tortured mind of the detective and everything that haunts him.
For me, this book was not light reading. It challenged me throughout, and it was very intense. But I did truly enjoy it, and I would recommend it. So yes, Mr Julian Kitsz, your book left a mark!
Good book that ties together all the early clues, but didn’t quite do it for me. There were certain parts of the plot that could have been built up more.
