Squeezeplay David F. Nighbert When Houston Astros pitcher “Holy Joe” Ahern is found dead in a hotel room with a star employee of Goodtimes Executive Escorts, the police call it murder-suicide. Bull Cochran calls it foul play.
Joe was his friend, and Bull knows no pitcher with 16 wins in mid-August would kill himself. But Bull still bears scars from the last time he played detective, and he might’ve stayed out of it if the bad guys hadn’t made him angry. He isn’t called Bull for nothing.
Squeezeplay is the sequel to the acclaimed Strikezone and was a finalist for the Nero Award for the Best American Detective Novel.

Loved reading about the areas of Houston I remember from that timeframe... Story was a nice little mystery - not really tied into baseball beyond the main character being an ex-player and the story revolving around the Astros players, a little bit.
