I don’t know who I am or where I came from. The only thing I do know is that I’m running from something…
When I’m taken prisoner to be thrust into a lifetime of prostitution, I learn I’m an angel. Yes, I bear the markings on my back: markings that reveal my wings have been removed. But when my only ally, a foul-mouthed sprite, insists my wings are intact, I realize the danger I’m facing.
I need protection. And that protection can only come from three magically powerful men who were destined to protect the balance between shadow and light:
Dragan, a gargoyle and the King of Shadow; Cambion, an elf and the King of Nature; and Baron, a vampire and the King of Death.
At one time there were four but Variant, the King of Light, grew greedy and usurped control for himself. He banished Cambion to the Fae Realm and Dragan to the Shadow Realm.
The shadows within me are pulling, struggling to maintain their grasp on the unconscious girl. I can feel them wrapping their tendrils of dark mist around her, holding onto her tightly. A woman has never had this effect on me. As soon as I touch her, I feel power pulsing through her tiny body. It envelops my hand and weaves up my arm, into my chest and causes my breath to freeze. By touching her, I feel my own magic begin to boil up as if it answers her silent call. But this time, the shadows aren’t trying to force me to take her—they’re responding to her, stimulated by her, drawn to her. I can’t explain it, but I feel captured by her, by the magic that undoubtedly flows within her. Using the Arcane Magic that’s part of me, I whisper the words to allow myself to become invisible in the eyes of those who would perceive me. I imagine myself becoming one with the shadows, one with Shadow Magic that infiltrates me—that is me.
### Cambion, The King of Nature
I remember the visions the angel had... First, the sex. A not-altogether-unpleasant visual. It was more than a vision, though. Like a dream, the sensation—phantom, but present—has arrested me and now I can’t stop replaying it. I don’t trust her. And I don’t trust the vision, either. In fact, the more I think about it, the more convinced I become that she’s after something. Women, I’ve found, are manipulative, and the smart ones understand they possess what every man wants. This one is no different. I’m more than convinced she’s using her extreme beauty to seduce us because I find myself craving her. Yet I’m not satisfied that this desire originates from inside me. Instead, I wonder if I’ve been enchanted. Dragan definitely appears to have been completely bewitched, because he can’t take his bloody eyes off her for more than a few seconds. The barbarian is too stupid for his own good. Where he sees an injured doe in the woods, I see an intelligent predator in the midst of setting a very convincing trap…
### Baron, The King of Death
Dragan doesn’t trust me. But he really doesn’t trust me with the girl. Little does he know I’m uninterested.
Ok I am calling it, this book or should I series might be my favorites of 2020. All I can say is that I am in love with these characters.
I am in in love with Dagan. I know I know... Book boyfriends are not real... but if I had to choose a character to come to life it would be him.
Seriously. Something could be wrong with me.
I enjoyed every minute of this book. I would have read it in one sitting but I am working overnight and can only read on my breaks...
#obsessed.
Okay where to begin the characters and their dynamic is fantastic. You understand where each is coming from. You want to know more about them.
If I had to have one complaint... it is I want more of the bad guy Varient because I want to know what the hell is his problem... but I suspect that is coming and wasn't really that necessary in thsi book.
The book has fantastic pacing and as all thing HP Mallory perfect writing. She writes in a way that you A: feel the characters are your friends and B: You wish the characters were real.
I really want more about the Midnight Queen and what really happened to her. Which you don't know yet... you know about her and where she is.... but why?
This book is quite the page turner and considering I have today off I suspect I will have the next book completed today.
Disclaimer: I did receive a copy of this book in exchange for review, but as always the thoughts and opinions are my own... and spoiler free :) Happy Reading!
I'm at the 60% mark, and I'm hesitant to finish the book. I'm still as confused as I was from the first chapter. Nothing has been clarified, the world doesn't make much sense. Sure, the mortal realm fell, and now there is the other two, but... the whole light and darkness, the protectors that aren't protecting jack because they have been defeated and banished, and they stay in their respective worlds... then Eilish, the drugged up angel, who knows nothing from amnesia of sorts, but hears voices and has been chased by another being that the one voice in her head warned her to get away from. I'm guessing he's some demon god, and the feminine voice in her head is an angelic god or something... but Eilish has two sets of wings. Demonic and angelic varieties... but she can't summon them on command. It's so confusing and hard to wrap my brain around. Especially with the Sprite and his point of view of it all. He's even more clueless than I am. The profanity, the aggression, the things of sexual nature, it's all so much craziness when we're stuck in a persistent state of confusion. Will update when I finish, if I can push myself through it.
The heroine is ALWAYS incapacitated in this story. Like, 90% of the book is her being unconscious and dudes drooling over her while she’s knocked out. The only thoughts any of the romantic interests have are about her “creamy thighs” like utter freaking morons.
If that’s your kink, I don’t judge. The ick factor is pretty high in this one. Two stars because I made it through and didn’t DNF, but it was a close one.
This book is different than her usual works, but just as exciting and magical. I can’t wait to read the sequel to find our more about our creative and fascinating characters.
Once again this kick off to a brand new series is literally, fantastic and otherworldly. HP Mallory has the knack for drawing you into; these worlds she creates. You will not want to leave. The series starts off with a heart stopping run for your life scene. Of the main female "so called angel" Eilish. Yet this fast pace, hot Racey, spicy sexual charged, non stop adventure and might I add didn't put book down. You will be at the end before long ready for the next installment especially w/the whooper of a cliffhanger. Of which if you have "Ever read any of my reviews"; you are so not going get a hint. Why it takes the fun out of it for one. Second why use the cliff-noted version when HP Mallory ; used her marvelous mind to write the book. So grab this up. Read it trust me you will be hooked, but in all the right kinda ways...
H.P. Mallory starts off her reverse harem romance series, THE SACRED OATH, with a bang. Book one, ANGEL, is in a word, stimulating. I love the paranormal world and she keeps me hanging on every page. Eilish, the Angel is an interesting character. You know from the beginning that's shes an angel but yet you sense she is so much more and I can not wait to find out! The book switches the first person character's view. Which at first was a little confusing but catch on quickly and now I like how you get to feel their feelings first hand. I found the book entertaining and already on to second book, Dargan.
This book! I have not been this excited about a series since Jolie Wilkins! It’s like The Witcher and The Taking of Sleeping Beauty had a child and this is it. Not only is it dark and deep it’s also witty and funny. This book will keep you entertained, you will not want to breeze through it but absorb every word. And pay attention because you will need to absorb it all to understand this underworld for it is a series and will go much deeper I’m sure.
Definitely knows how to give a character their own voice. Is definitely a bit dark, especially in some of the themes, and although I don't mind, there's more than a little language. But there are lots of laughs, and it's definitely a unique and complex plot.
This was an awesome start to the series that just pulled me in from the beginning. I love how it’s slowly unfolding and there isn’t too much insta love with the group, as I love when there are layers like this!
I recommend for sure as it’s a completed series too.
Pretty great read! Dragan is book boyfriend material. The sprite is hilarious. Those snarky comments are so fun and definitely add to the plot. Love a good fantasy RH and it’s not too much world building to where it’s hard to understand.
Eilish has no idea who or what she is. She just knows she's on the run and she's seeking safety. When Eilish learns she is an Angel and she still has her wings, she knows she's in even more danger. Something or someone is guiding her, and she sees no choice but to trust it/them.
Dragan, gargoyle and King of Shadow is the first to aid Eilish on her journey. Although it hasn't yet been proven that her wings exist, Dragan feels a need to protect her. In order to do that, he seeks the aid of an old friend, Cambion, elf and King of Nature. In fleeing a common enemy, Variant, the King of Light, they find themselves traveling to Grimreap. It is there that they stumble across a friend they believed to be dead, at Variant's hand, no less.
Baron, vampire and the King of Death, isn't the man he used to be. He only knows himself as Revenant. Although, he doesn't want to ally himself with a group of strangers, Revenant's long had a hatred of Variant. And something about Eilish compels him to join their cause. Their is a reckoning coming.
H.P. Mallory starts off her reverse harem romance series, THE SACRED OATH, with a bang. Book one, ANGEL, is in a word, impressive. What a new and stimulating take on the paranormal world... I was absolutely hooked from page one. Variant, Baron, Cambion and Dragan were all part of an alliance until Variant got greedy and seized all the power for himself. He killed Baron and exiled Cambion and Dragan. What he doesn't know is that Baron is back, literally from the dead. And a wrench is about to be thrown into Variant's plans when Eilish enters the picture. Eilish, along with Baron, Cambion and Dragan, are about to change things drastically. What will happen next?! Fans of reverse harem and paranormal romance need look no further for their next read than Ms. Mallory's ANGEL. It will not disappoint.
Eilish doesn't know where she came from or even who she is . She is thrown into a life of prostitution , she learns that she is an Angel but she has no wings . She needs protection and that comes from 3 very different magical men . Will they survive what is after Eilish
This author can write some very great characters and these characters are no exception . They are well written and complex. Each of the male characters is different but yet deep down they are the same . Dragan is the Gargoyle and the king of shadow . He is dark and brooding and lets say that he is sexy as sin . There is something about him that will draw you in and make your heart beat a little faster . Cambion is and elf and the king of nature . There seems to be a lightness to him. I liked him I just wanted to climb him like a spider monkey and then there is Baron a vampire and the king of death . He is well a vampire , all sexy and brooding but also a killer that you don't see coming . Eilsh is timid but also in the same breath strong . She gets knocked down but keeps on going . She could be one of my favourite new characters .
This story had me hooked from the second page. The characters are well written and i found I was caring for all of them at one point in the book . There are twists and turns through out the book that will keep you on the edge of your seat . This is my second reverse harem book and I must say that i liked it . There is a mystery and intrigue and your kindle will get warm with the romantice sexy scenes that go on. You should add this book to your fall reading challenge . You will not be disappointed .
This book was different from others I have read before by this excellent author, but still with the quality a reader can always count on.
All new characters are introduced to the reader. Eilish is an Angel who, from all appearances, has had her wings torn off. Then again, things are not always what they seem! She finds herself in the Mortal Realm. Her life will be touched by three men.
Originally four soldiers had taken an Oath of Devotion to maintain the balance between shadow and light. Dragan is a Gargoyle, the King of Shadow, a dark and brooding character. Cambion is an Elf, King of Nature from the Fae Realm. Baron a vampire, King of Death. These powerful men were destined to protect her. Variant had also been one of the oath-takers, but greed and envy upset the equilibrium once again. Variant, an angel and the King of Light, is coming after Eilish, having banished the men who would protect her back to their realms and allegedly killing Baron. Who would protect Eilish now? Why are things so confusing? And whose voice is guiding her?
This is a great start for a new series. The characters are well written and the story line is intriguing. Grab your copy for the start of a new adventure!
This book was so good, it was fast paced, with intriguing complex characters. You have Eilish, she is an angel with no memories of her past. She is angel, she doesn't even know if she still has her wings. But is also something more, very powerful. You have Dragon the Gargoyle, Cambion the Seelie Fae and Baron a vampire. All king that held the balance of dark and light until the other king got greedy. They will try to discover what is going on with Eilish, if she is truly an angel with wings, she can help restore the balance They are all drawn to her in different ways, she is drawn to them. What is chasing her and how dangerous is it? Who is the voice in her head. How will being those two things change things for her safety, the the guys but the fight that is to come. The author does an amazing job of engaging you in this book. The way she weaves this tale is amazing as it just draws you. There is something in this series, the readers will love. Only thing I found annoying is the sprite, Flumph, but I think that is the point. Give me more, I can't wait to read book 2 to see where their journey takes them.
This is a bit mixed up - the world building is scattered through the narrative, as all good stories do, but it feels a bit disjointed and stumbling... as if it’s trying to catch up to itself or reveal the truth in a piecemeal fashion of clues. I’m still not really sure what’s going on, but neither are the characters, so there’s that.
Pros: - It’s really intriguing / you want to KNOW what’s going on. - Humans are extinct?
Cons: - I don’t mind books with no feminism, but there is a decided lack here, and a focus on how she looks above most everything.
Really enjoyed this ready. Kept me intrigued all along. Intriguing plot with complex characters, you get drawn to this world of dark magic and light and this battle of life. Flumph is a hilarious character( loved him) The context is a little repetitive at times, I feel that maybe there was no need to repeat the same line so many times, also I feel that the story dragged along for awhile, half of the book the angel is unconscious, not much was accomplish by the characters, I'll like to see that something has changed in the next book... looking forward to reading the next story in this series. ( I won this book in the goodreads giveaways, thanks again)
This was an interesting book. Eilish is in danger and her knowledge of her past is somehow blocked. Some inner voice is telling her she is going to need protection, and she seeks out Dragan, a gargoyle and the King of Shadow; Cambion, an elf and the King of Nature; and Baron, a vampire and the King of Death. They don't know who to trust and they don't trust each other. They all want to keep Eilish safe, so they reluctantly travel together with a common goal. This book was entertaining and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
This was . . . this had potential, I guess. The premise was really interesting and that's mainly why I kept reading. However, the heroine was unconscious for almost the first 33% of the book and the only thing everyone around her could think of was . . . taking advantage of her body. Ick.
After that, there was a plot per say, the world building was cool, and the lore was interesting, its just that first 33% wouldn't leave me alone. I couldn't really like the main heroes after that.
I loved the Angel storyline, but the writer's redundancy was trying at times--so much repeated content should have been edited out. Readers are smart, we get it the first time. The concept behind the plot was fascinating and immediately caught and held my interest. Some minor typos (e.g. waist=waste) and questionable grammar, but it was only briefly annoying, as the story was wonderful. My 3.5 rating is rounded up due to the creative world-building.
I enjoyed the many different PoVs and how the book moved right along without big gaps of downtime and inner monologues. The only downside for me to this book was that I was not able to become emotionally invested in the mc. That may change in the coming books. At the very end it had started to, so I do think I will continue reading the series.
Even though this book is exploring genre that considered taboo and it has been written to death it is taking tropes and cliches and turning them on their heads. The story is interesting. You fall in love with the characters and you ship them. You want her to love them all and all of them to love her and it makes you invested in the story. It's steamy, juicy, and has you curious as to how it will end.
This story really drew me in and there are sooooo many questions that I now have. It is a little slow going in spots, but please stick with it, it is so worth it. Flumph is hilarious and I'm not too sure if he is one of the harem or if he is just for comic relief. Time will tell how everything will pan out. Such a great start to a new series.
An angel meets a gargoyle, an elf and a vampire. No, it is not a joke. Eilish, the angel, is in danger and unaware of her abilities and lineage. The adventure begins when a sprite sees her wings and finds the gargoyle to help her. This is just the beginning in this story and I look forward to the saga.
