Just wrapped up reading this book and I need to share how beneficial it was for me. It's gonna be quite long, but trust me, this review is worth reading if you’re planning to buy the book.

Starting to read, I was having a hard time figuring out solutions for some issues I was encountering on a daily basis, both at work and home. This book was an eye-opener that realigned how I think about dealing with challenges.

The book has an amazing focus on strategic thinking and finding well-thought-out solutions. It sort of forces you to pause, take a step back and look around to understand the actual root of the issue. It opens up new paths, where you thought there were walls.

Another fantastic aspect was all about harnessing your own creativity. For me, creativity wasn't my strong suit, but this book debunked that notion of me being uncreative pretty instantly. It busts the myth that creativity is just for artists or writers. The methods suggested to foster creativity were really useful tools not just in my professional life but also in personal day-to-day decision making.

The emphasis on relationship building and collaboration opened another dimension for me. I mean I used to consider problem-solving a solitary endeavor but the book enlightened me about the potency of collective brainstorming. The tips to communicate effectively work wonders, in my workspace and even social circle, creating an improving environment of mutual understanding.

You'd think such concepts, although useful, might make for a tough read, but the author manages to address everything in a relatable and comprehensible format. The practical examples and straightforward language made it easy to understand the material and apply them.

The best part is how universal the book is. Whether you're dealing with career challenges or personal ones, the strategies just fit seamlessly into every situation, they've fundamentally changed how I view problems, more like opportunities now and less like obstacles.

So this book transformed my approach to problem-solving on such a level, that I'm excited for challenges rather than dreading them. It's not just a book, it’s a guide to a more confident and strategic mindset. I highly suggest this book to anyone who wants to see challenges as opportunities for growth. It's a ride that’s worth your time.

On becoming an adept problem solver. Great desk reference.

Patrik Meyer uses his own life experiences as the foundation for writing “The 4 Pillars of Problem-Solving”. A comprehensive guide on effective problem solving. He dives right into what is required to be an effective problem solver.

Defining a problem can be a multi-level uphill climb. Identifying the symptoms as the writer describes is the first step to finding a solution. Finding the root cause so the problem doesn’t reoccur; address the underlying causes to the problem. Gathering information and making informed decisions is a key element to making decisions.

Designing a flow chart is a brilliant idea. This is with an understanding that not all problems can be solved overnight. Some problems will take longer to solve than others. Building on your strengths and knowing your weaknesses is a beneficial part of problem solving. Brainstorming, bouncing ideas off your friends or colleagues creates enthusiasm and team building. Problem solving is important in our personal and professional lives.

The author introduces a framework that breaks down the problem-solving puzzle into manageable components called the four pillars. Some problems will be easier to solve than the more complex problems and that’s where the writer’s formula in the book comes in handy. The writer is effective in conveying his message about the problem-solving process.

Patrik Meyer provides data collection techniques and examples that will enable anyone on a personal or professional level to solve a problem. He discusses limitations, identifying options and risk assessments.

I like this book because of the writer’s positive approach to solving a problem. A plus is the glossary at the end of the book. This book is a handy tool to keep on your desk or bookshelf.

This is a resource that I would keep on your shelf right next to your dictionary or pass along to all heads of departments, companies, etc.. It's a book that I can see myself returning to on several occasions, not to read from front to back, but to utilize the steps when faced with a problem.

This book really focuses on approaching problem solving with critical thinking and looking at various perspectives, versus coming from an emotional response. Problems will always be encountered in all aspects of our life, so it is a vital skill to learn how to effectively approach problem solving. This is a book for business owners, teachers, students, health care workers, researchers, politicians, techies, and so many more. Every piece of the book may not apply or speak to every reader, but there are components that are applicable to everyone.

The author approaches problem solving by looking at 4 pillars: Understand, Strategize, Decide and Overcome. I really connected with the first pillar focusing on understanding the problem. I find this to be the most important part of the process. This requires one to get to the root of the problem, versus just treating the symptoms, applying bias or jumping to conclusions. It's a crucial stage requiring one not to ignore the heart of the issue or misdiagnose the problem, otherwise it never gets solved and is a waste of time and resources. In the remaining pillars, the author shares various techniques including recommended flow charts and diagrams. He also shares recommended considerations, which is helpful to have in one place.

Likes: Handy Resource; Step-by-Step Guide; Worth trying in my next problem solving session
Dislikes/Recommendations: Would have been nice to have blank visual examples of the various charts and diagrams at the back of the book with the glossary.

No matter your area of expertise, we all face struggles and difficulties, whether it's in your personal life or your professional one.

As a seasoned business strategist and consultant for more than two decades, I am always on the lookout for resources to sharpen my toolkit. This book, 'The 4 Pillars of Problem-Solving', is my most recent addition and, let me tell you, it now occupies a top spot in my library.

I've been swimming in resources on problem-solving, strategic thinking, and relationship building for years, but what impresses me so much about this book is how comprehensive it is without being overwhelming. I'm talking about the techniques and hacks - all clearly explained and ready to be applied. Now, that's not just hot air; these are practical, actionable insights you can implement in a variety of situations.

What's outstanding is how the book weaves together the threads of problem-solving, strategic thinking, creativity, and collaboration. It underscores the interconnectedness of these skills and how honing one enhances the others, giving a full-rounded takeaway. Plus, it doesn't downplay the importance of resilience and determination when tackling tough problems, which I find refreshing.

The clear language and everyday examples make it easy to digest, and the techniques feel like they could be applied right off the page. Now, I can't wait to start integrating these methods into both my daily work and the advice I give to clients.

Although there are many books on the subject out there, the depth and breadth of 'The 4 Pillars of Problem-Solving', combined with its clear and concise explanations, make it a standout guide. Fancy you're a beginner or an experienced professional, everyone will find golden nuggets in here. This is quite a treasure trove for anyone committed to becoming a true problem-solving ace

Everyone faces challenges in life; it's unavoidable. This means that being able to solve problems is crucial for finding happiness and achieving success. I've faced my fair share of personal and professional challenges, probably more than most, but one thing I've always known is that problems won't magically disappear on their own. Solving them requires proactive effort.

Not all methods of addressing the issue are successful. Making decisions in problem-solving without properly identifying or understanding the situation can create even larger problems. That's why the problem-solving approach outlined in this piece was so reassuring to me.

In this book, the author lays out a simple, sequential process for fixing issues. This book provides a four-pronged approach to help readers overcome obstacles in their personal and professional lives. This book teaches systematic data collection, root cause analysis, and solution formulation. It also provides decision-making advice. Lastly, it provides advice on handling challenges that may arise once solutions are implemented.

The author's ability to connect with the reader and offer a clear plan of action is what truly makes this book impactful. Among the many problem-solving strategies and models, the fourth pillar stands out as my favorite. Following the implementation of solutions, the ability to overcome challenges is equally, if not more, crucial than the initial problem-solving steps.

For those who often find themselves paralyzed by indecision, this book is an invaluable resource that provides practical strategies for making confident decisions. However, it can also benefit anyone looking to break free from a state of stagnancy and inaction.

extraordinary!

I have a whole array of problem-solving books cluttering up my shelves, from the likes of "Smarter Faster Better" by Charles Duhigg and "Think Like A Freak" by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner. And yet, none of them have resonated with me quite like this one on strategic thinking and problem-solving techniques. After reading it from cover to cover, I can confidently proclaim that this book is an absolute gem.

The way it blends practical, everyday scenarios with towering problem-solving concepts. It doesn’t just whisper theories; it serves up solid hacks that you can implement immediately at home, in the office, or in any problematic situation. It covers crucial keywords like strategic thinking, creative solutions, collaboration, relationships, and overcoming challenges and intertwined in a way that makes sense.

Another thing I absolutely love is how this book isn't just about textbook techniques but looks holistically at leveraging your creativity, building strong relationships, and gathering collective intelligence to arrive at innovative solutions. Now, who wouldn't want that?!

If you're anything like me and have found other problem-solving books to leave you wanting more, look no further. This guide on strategic thinking and problem-solving, filled with many techniques and hacks, is here to knock your socks off! Trust me on this one; I've read my fair share of books on the subject. This particular gem manages to outshine them all.

This book on strategic problem-solving was recommended by a colleague, and it was worth the read. This isn't just your average book; it's a comprehensive guide packed full with techniques that guide you through every step of the problem-solving process.

As someone who tackles challenges daily in my work, I found the techniques provided in the book to be incredibly practical and easy to apply in real-life scenarios. It touches on everything from defining and analyzing problems to strategizing and evaluating solutions.

Now, my girlfriend, she is always on the fence with these self-help or guide kind of books. However, we were both impressed by just how much the techniques stimulated our creative thinking. There's just something really rewarding about finding new and creative ways to tackle challenges.

Moreover, it was really insightful to learn about the importance of building relationships and collaboration in problem-solving, something I found to be a real gem in the book.

So far, we've had many quality chats about the strategies and techniques we learnt from the book. Safe to say, it's worth its weight in gold, and it's improved our problem-solving approach heaps.

“At the heart of every great achievement lies the ability to solve problems.”
This book aims to enhance your problem-solving abilities by helping you overcome inherent human biases in decision making (like irrationally coming from a place of emotion) and offers a fresh perspective on problem-solving by introducing the reader to four pillars: 1.) the critical aspect of focusing on understanding the problem, 2.) options and methodologies to strategize and develop the best solution to the problem, 3.) selecting the best solution among multiple options, and 4.) overcoming challenges and obstacles by introducing techniques and strategies to manage them. Each chapter contains core problem-solving concepts and principles teaching different theories and techniques the reader can apply in any personal or collaborative (work) setting to become a more effective problem-solver, as well a more successful person. A must-read for anyone looking to sharpen their problem-solving abilities and take their life to the next level.

Gift of Knowledge
Got this book as a surprise gift for my cousin who is super into life skills, techniques, self-growth stuff. She was thrilled! We chatted on the phone and she cannot stop talking about it. She said it's packed with practical advice, it's inspiring and makes her feel empowered to take on life's challenges.

She's typically the type to ruminate over problems, but she's already finding that this book is changing her approach. She’s significantly more confident, and tackling issues with strategic thinking and collaborative solutions. She’s finding the techniques and tricks super helpful in her daily life, so much so, she's started applying them at work too.

I'm happy this turned out to be a perfect gift for her. It's not a one-time read, it's a book you keep coming back to. If you're struggling to find a meaningful gift, do consider this book. It's a big hit in our family for sure! Would definitely recommend!

This book is real gold. You can tell that there was real sweat and thought put into every inch of it, and the research behind the content is solid as a rock. Just feels like someone had done all the homework for you and all you need to do is read it!

As far as how the book looks and feels, it's just a dream to flip through. Nothing more frustrating than a confusing layout but lucky for us, this book's got a reader-friendly design. The chapters and sections are laid out nice and clear, making it a walk in the park to flip between topics without feeling lost. Oh, and the way key information is highlighted is very helpful, especially when you're in a rush and need quick-reference.

In addition to the outstanding content and design, the cover of the book is on point, too. It feels professional and the layout is indeed attractive. It simply gives you that feeling that you’ve invested in something valuable.

Snagging a copy of this self-help literature focusing on problem-solving strategies really hit home for me. In a world where there's a ton of self-help options, a person might feel a touch of the old buyer’s remorse, especially when some of these books just fluff up the pages without providing substantial value. But that wasn't the case with this one. The book had me ticking off the ""Wow"" checkbox from page one.

It's really great when you can see the benefits of what you’re reading in real action. So yeah, this experience was pretty refreshing and far from disappointing.

I don’t regret buying this book one bit. It's now my go-to guide, and I constantly refer back to it for advice. If you're thinking about getting this book, trust me, it's worth every penny - it’s not just a book, it's an opportunity to better tackle the challenges life throws at you. You won't feel a shadow of buyer’s remorse - it's been a solid purchase decision for me!

Maybe it is just because a lot of information is being thrown at me at once, but this was a little bit difficult to follow sometimes. I think this might be better used as a resource that you can refer back to if you need a specific type of diagram or chart of some sort. I personally remember a lot of these charts and diagrams from school, but some of them had variations that I’ve never seen before. I could definitely see this being a useful resource for a teacher who would need a lot of different methods to help a variety of students to accommodate different needs. Otherwise I don’t think many people in the respective fields mentioned would need such a resource aside from maybe business which one can get into without a degree, but aside from that the rest have college educated careers and are probably aware of the systems in place to help problem solve.

I admit that I was skeptical before reading this book, but I must say that I'm genuinely impressed by the content of this book. The author weaves practical strategies seamlessly into relatable examples, making it a valuable resource for anyone grappling with challenges, big or small. The book's structured approach resonated with me because I like to approach problems in a systematic way, so this just clicked with me. I would have never though that there were 169 techniques that could be used to foster and enhance strategic thinking. I also liked how the author emphasized how building relationships can lead to collaborative problem-solving. What sets this apart is its actionable advice—no fluff, just concrete tools for tackling tough problems creatively. Whether you're navigating personal or professional challenges, these pillars provide a solid foundation. This book is a must-read.

I consider myself a positive person, but it is true that sometimes we are impractical and our mind gets clouded. With this book I have found the solution to those obstacles and those stones in the shoe that sometimes arise and that we do not overcome just for lack of knowing how to handle problems properly.
Excellent.

The 4 Pillars of Problem-Solving by Patrik Ian Meyer is a comprehensive overview of various decision-making and problem-solving tools, techniques and practices that you can use in different areas of life, from work to personal relationships. This guide is helpful if you are not familiar with the terms and techniques discussed and can be a good starting point for further research. Unfortunately, it reads like AI generated text in many places. I highly recommend another round of editing for this book as well as tightening, as this book could really have been shorter while offering the same or more value. I am giving this book three out of five stars and hope the author will review it and release an improved edition.

Meyer literally champions the significance of information gathering and making informed decisions as pivotal elements in the problem-solving process. He introduces the concept of designing a flowchart to tackle problems and acknowledges that not all issues can be swiftly resolved. This realisation is quite vital, offering a realistic perspective that some problems necessitate time and careful consideration.

The author’s emphasis on self-awareness, knowing one’s strengths and weaknesses, adds a personal touch to the problem solving journey. pretty enlightening

Who even thought of writing a book about solving problems, pure genius!! I just love the whole concept of this book. Not everyone is great at solving problems, yet there are those who thrive and achieve greatness by being an excellent problem solver. I will definitely gain a lot from this resource. I highly recommend this book.
