“I don’t know what I have to offer you besides attention. That’s what I’m offering.”

He had acted so hurt when I told him he was cold, mindfucker, and, on the purely practical level, straight unavailable. He called me cruel, as though he cared. He’s not just cold, though: selfish, repressed, (narcissist), insecure, fear-driven, liar, self-pitying, pompous. Losing his frayed, greasy hair, sickening neckbeard, stretch skinny jeans he doesn’t even recognize as repulsive. Dating lip-flip Zoomers who call him Daddy. Also: a married girl and her catboy.

All I had wanted was an acknowledgment of the reality.

Great issue. Especially liked Frank Guan's essay on Don DeLillo.

My first n+1 and that is some meaty content - I read Cop City with interest and skipped over the little known architect, but overall I can see why this publication comes out only 3x a year. It takes time to read - not only to read, but to comprehend. For me, a few pages at a time in the morning while gearing up for the day with a cup of coffee ends up as the perfect time.
