DragonKin #2

DragonSeer

Rate this book
Two lovers, our dragons, eggs on the way, and one cottage.
It’s everything I need to be happy. But my partners were meant for greater things, I can feel it in my bones.
Kirby is radiance and light. His presence is too big for a Welsh valley in the middle of nowhere.
Cai is doing so well, but he is clearly a shattered man.
They both need more and I need to give it to them. The world needs them too. It would be selfish of me to keep Cai and Kirby to myself.
If only I knew how to get us out of this situation.
Then, the night Ri lays his eggs, everything changes.
I’m having visions. I know things I shouldn’t. I’m guided to a miracle for Cai.
And when an injured tylwyth falls into my lap, I know just what to do.
The world is changing, but with Kirby and Cai by my side, nothing, absolutely nothing is going to keep me down.
DragonSeer is set in our modern world, one where dragons fly every night, you just can’t see them. It contains a gay 'Why choose' love triangle, with high steam, high stakes, high angst & a happy for now ending.
It is book two of the series which is intended to be read in order.
It contains content that may be upsetting for some readers. Please use the 'Look Inside' or sample feature to view the copyright page for further details.

Well, yes. Unfortunately, as I feared, it's nowhere near as good as the first part.
It's not a bad book, but it's sooooo boring.
I would have liked to spend more time with Kirby's POV, but unfortunately, in the second book, we're inside Harlen's head. And well, it's pretty boring in there. He always has the same thoughts and goes around in circles. The way he thinks is also super boring.
On top of that, there's hardly any plot.
I like that it's slower paced. After everything was very insta-ish in the first book, I'm glad that the three boys are given time to be completely on their own, to solidify their relationship, and to grow closer to each other. But this takes up more than half of the book. It's not until about 60% of the way through that there's any kind of suspense... Unfortunately, it's very brief.
It only gets interesting at the end of the book, and I'm pretty grateful that it's over. As a preview, the third part is written from Cai's point of view, and after the first chapter, I can say that it reads much better. I hope that continues. The story itself is developing in an interesting direction, and I'm curious to see where it goes.
Otherwise, there are a few delicious sex scenes again, but here too, Harlen's point of view is pretty lame for me.

“Pesky things, emotions,” I drawl.
He doesn’t look at me, but I can still see a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He knows how I feel about him. Just like I know how he feels about me. Heavens’ forbid we ever say it out loud. Much to Kirby’s eternal exasperation. He will make us do it one day, I’m sure of it. Until then, we will remain a pair of macho idiots who don’t communicate like we should.
🙄

Kissing was supposed to just be the prelude, but now I don’t want to stop. There is so much we can say to each other with this gentle touch. Things we will never say with words. I can feel his love and tenderness for me. His devotion. I know he can feel mine. I am telling him my promises to him. My promise to never leave him, to never hurt him, to always give him everything that I can. 🙄

“I’m fine, I promise,” says Kirby, sounding exasperated.
I raise an eyebrow at him, and he flushes. “Sorry.” He is forgetting to talk telepathically again? It really is adorable. I don’t want Kirby to ever change.
He is a bright light shining in the darkness of the world. Everybody should get to have a Kirby in their life.

I changed my mind about the rating. This is not a four star book.

This was definitely not as good as book one.

I don’t even know why. I mean, it could be because this is from Harlen’s point of view and not Kirby’s. I knew that going in of course but I had my doubts.

Maybe this was simply self fulfilling prophecy or something.

I just really wanted this to be all about Kirby. Or at least to continue on from is point of view. He was so much fun.

The plot was good though but there are things I need answers to, and now I’m not so sure if I’ll get them in the next book but we’ll see.

I’m definitely not giving up on this series. It’s much too fun for that.

Basically Harlen throughout the book:

Cai, Kirby, Cai, Cai, Cai, Kirby, Cai, Cai, Cai, Cai, My God! Cai!!, oh hey Kirby, Cai, Cai, Cai, Cai, Cai, CAI THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!!!, oh Kirby, Cai Cai CAI CAI CAI, Kirby.

If you're going to write a MMM poly romance book, make sure the affection and lust craving is EQUAL AMONG THEM. Also, I don't like the way Kirby is left off on the side when those two are going at it, trust me nobody actually likes that. If they're going to play make them play altogether at the same time. I was waiting for a Harlen and Kirby sexy moment but we got Harlen eating Kirby out like a madman I guess I should be happy about that(a little bit but I'm not really satisfied with that).
The plot thickens and it's great but you failed miserably at handling their relationship dynamics.

Kirby oh Kirby, I'm sorry they hyped you up at the beginning but now you're more like a sex tool used to help Harlen and Cai have a relationship.

Harlen tells the story of DragonSeer and I loved getting his POV for the entire book. This is a fast-paced, spicy MMM story with plenty of revelations. As such, it needs to be read after DragonRider. These are not standalone stories.
I love the world that has been built up. This one is still part of the larger universe that S. Rodman has created, but those don't need to be read first. The hints at the larger world just give more context for those that have read them.
Trying to review the book without giving anything away is hard! So much happened and things are in motion for the 3rd book.
Harlen is really the center for Cai and Kirby. As he says, they are each other's weaknesses. They will do anything for each other, but he is the one that holds them together and they love him for it. He takes control when Cai is struggling, though he does push back. I really don't think that Kirby and Cai would work without Harlen there, just as Cai and Harlen didn't before Kirby came into their lives.
Magic, dragons, action and steam. Loved it

Finished in 2.5 hours

This series is honestly so good, the truths are finally being relieved and the gained powers are thrilling. This throuple, their dragons, and their new son make me so happy, I so want them to get a happy ending. I will be reading book 3 immediately, I need to have all my questions answered but most importantly I want my men and their dragons to be happy. Also, Cai is my favourite, I cried for him last book and I cried for him in this book.

S. Rodman, I can say that I no longer am mad at you and definitely still love you for this series, but if my men don't get happy endings I will be mad again and will have a lot to say, thank you and see you in another few hours for book 3 review.

Such a good second instalment!

I really am enjoying this trilogy and I love the shift in POV. We saw things from Harlen’s perspective this time and it was great getting that shift in perspective. It really helps show you how he, Cai and Kirby all fit together. There’s a lot going on in the second book (things coming together, things being set up for book three etc) but what I absolutely love is that the conflict is external. I really dislike when authors create internal conflict in the relationship as a plot device. Where you have a couple/throuple that have come together in the first book, I want to see them build on that. That’s not to say that sometimes conflict doesn’t naturally happen, but it should be a big blow up and it should be purely a plot device. I loved that Harlem, Cai and Kirby just grew stronger in this. We still got all kinds of action and intrigue but the core relationship ship between them was solid and that just made this book perfection. It’s hard to say more without spoiling things but it really was an awesome second instalment and it’s made me so excited for the last book!

This is book 2 of the DragonKin series and the first book, DragonRider, should be read before reading this book.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I hadn't read the first book before getting this book, so I read DragonRider first and it destroyed me (in the best possible way.) It's probably my book of the year, that's how much I loved it.

DragonSeer was a very good sequel. I didn't love it quite as much as I loved DragonRider, but it was still a very solid read. It's the second book in a trilogy and I do think it goes through the same second book pains that a lot of trilogies do: that the second book has more loose ends that don't get resolved by the end of the book and is, overall, slower than the first and third books.

Spoilers:

Of the three MCs, I also think I personally resonate least with Harlen, whose POV we get in this book. That's not to say I dislike him, I just relate to Kirby and Cai more. I loved Kirby in DragonRider and I am really, really interested to get Cai's POV in the third book.

Overall this was a very enjoyable read and has left me highly anticipating the next book in the series!

An amazing second stage of the journey for our dragon rider trio.

I love how the POV is shifting with each book. For the first book it was great to have Kirby's POV as he was new to the world and had to learn everything, and the reader accompanied him on his journey of discovery.

In book two, the world is cemented, so we move on to Harlen's POV, and it's good to know that he is as full of sunshine as he appeared in book 1. He is the light to Cai's dark, and with Kirby to balance them both, they are all perfectly suited.

I loved Harlen's sense of humour and his relationship with Zh. Although I knew it already, it was lovely to get confirmation of Harlen's inner thoughts, that despite his sunshiney nature, he is not superficial.

You MUST read book one, Dragon Rider, before this one. This book just continues straight on from book 1, with very little background or explanation. It is assumed that the reader is familiar with the world and the characters.

I am in love with this series, and I'm absolutely hopping in anticipation for the conclusion and Cai's POV in book 3!

I loved that this time we have the book from Harlen's perspective. We can see that beneath the jokes and sarcasm he lives worried about everyone's well-being, and of course he always tries to distract them with sex, at least Cai and Kirby.
And of course we have our great protagonists, the dragons. Ri finally had 4 eggs now they have to protect. But one of them is weak, they all suffer because they know that I may not have made it.
By forming a triad Cai, Harlen and Kirby will develop new abilities that I loved. We know that having that special connection with a dragon would have many advantages, here we explore that part more.
This book is full of tension, love, friendship and great enemies, but we discover that the real enemies are not those who fought but those who were at their side.
The third book will be heart-stopping and full of action, I'm dying to read it

So freaking good! I loved that we got to continue the story from Harlen’s POV. All the characters are back and the story picks up right where Dragonrider leaves off. Kirby is still his same lovable shy, while Cai is still his prickly self.
But getting to continue the story thru Harlens eyes brought so much more depth to the trio. The banter was just perfection and the story was amazing.
I can’t wait for the finale thru Cai’s POV.

Thank you S.Rodman for the advanced copy, it’s an honor to be apart of your Arc team. Your books just always bring me so much joy.

As the middle installment of a trilogy, this book doesn’t necessarily need an inciting incident – the events of the first book set up the entire initial situation in which our heroes find themselves. With brand-new dragon eggs and in a self-imposed exile from the greater dragonriding community, Harlen, Cai, and Kirby are poised at a major turning point of their lives.

Multiple unsolved plot lines have followed these characters into their next book, both involving them personally and their society as a whole. One is solved in a manner that was both sooner than I expected and delightfully imaginative. This resolution also leads to a fascinating revelation that could have drastically affected the relationships between this romantic trio, but I appreciated that they continued to function as a solid team in the face of every conflict they confront. Before I could wonder what would happen next, Rodman drops (literally) an epic twist regarding the major external threat faced by this world.

Though this book is a paranormal romance, the actual romance arc in this book is more of a horizontal line. As much as I love to see characters be happy, I do think there could have been slightly more interpersonal conflict between this trio, but the lack might actually be due to who the narrator for this book is. Harlen, who is a sunshiny delight as the point-of-view character, is completely satisfied by the way his trio has balanced itself into a lovely blend of personalities and needs. His fairly optimistic nature (and slightly one-track mind) means there’s a fun mix of sweet (and sexy) power exchange dynamics without the usual trappings of kink that meshes well with the pacing of the external plot.

One of my favorite things about this book is that though the characters are steeped in the secret paranormal element of this urban fantasy story, they meet a good mix of magical and real-world dangers as part of the conflict that advances the plot. They also face a fascinating moral quandary that is more often seen on the science end of the speculative fiction spectrum, and I look forward to seeing how that particular issue gets resolved in the final book.

Though this book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, the characters once again find themselves at a massive turning point. I’ll definitely be finishing this series to see how everything works out.

Eerie. Le daba mi vida entera.

I was captivated by Rodman's world building the moment I started reading the first book. The dragons, their riders, rituals and secrets living in a hidden society amongst the human race and leading a never ending battle against the tylwyth who are opening portals and trying to invade our dimensional plane. It was a solid, well-thought and even more surprisingly well written beginning of unique fantasy world. So I was really impatiently waiting the continuation to see what will happen next. And this second installment didn't disappoint. Here the bonds between Harlen, Kirby and Cai strenghten and develop exponentially - they learn, they listen, they observe step by step turning into an unbreakable triad that love, value and protect each other, face challenges together, build strategies and deflect attacks that threaten not only their safety but the safety of their dragons. I loved the added twists and turns, the personal growth of the characters. Seeing the story unfolds from Harlen's point of view/ this horny bugger lol/, I truly, deeply enjoyed the edge and spiciness to their interactions. But what really impressed me was the way they took in stride the upending of the world they knew and was raised into. it's a steep, difficult and jarring learning curve which I suppose, we will see develop and give results in the third book. Amazing work, S.Rodman - thank you for this reading delight

3.5 stars. I really like the story and the direction it is going in. I feel like there is genuine progression each chapter, even though it's usually bracketed by sex. They aren't huge steps towards the final conflict but I don't mind the meandering pace. I think it works for this story. Though I do wish there was a little more punch to some of the small conflicts that happened in this book.

I like these characters, emotional constipation and all. Are they great communicators? No! But I do think they genuinely care about each other in ways that perhaps I wouldn't understand since I am not them. I hope Cai finally figures his shit out because it's verging on the point of exhaustion. Daddy issues through more than 2 books is a bit much. Kirby is great, he's funny and cute. He's someone easy to resonate with. Harlen was okay. He didn't give me anything special, which brings me to my last point.

I do agree with the general consensus that this should have stuck with Kirby's POV. I just really liked Kirby and sticking with his POV makes sense as he's a good stand-in for the reader. He doesn't understand much of anything happening any more than we the reader does. So it made sense to keep reading the story through his eyes. So, either it needed to stick with Kirby's POV or switched POVs with chapters from the beginning. Not whole books dedicated to one character, though I understand why it needed to be done this way.

DragonSeer - Harlen

‘He is a Rider, not a passenger. I turn my head to see it again and suddenly my heart flutters. The dawn light is painting everything in a rosy glow. Cai is brimming with magic and grinning like a maniac. Recognition flashes through me like electricity. This is the exact moment I saw in my vision the night the eggs were laid. It is like super intense déjà vu.’

DragonSeer is book 2 in S. Rodman’s fabulous MM Paranormal Romance series, DragonKin.

Halem, Cai, and Kirby have left the dragon keep after Cai’s magic burned out saving Kirby, but this throuple’s adventures are not over, by a long shot!

Their dragon throuple is expecting eggs for the first time in many years, so safety is first in their minds. While protecting the dragons, their eggs, and each other, Harlen’s focus becomes lasered in on working to provide as much happiness as he can for both Kirby and Cai.

Still living together in their cottage, Harlen finds changes happening upon the birth of Ri’s eggs. Visions become clearer and they predict future happenings that will affect them all.

Romantic and steamy, Rodman creates a harrowing modern day world where dragons and their riders share a deep sense of loyalty and love, ready to protect each other from the evil that has infiltrated and must be eliminated.

I was waiting for this second opus and am not disappointed.
The story continues and damn this is good.

I am so so happy to see Kirby, Cai and Harlen back with their dragons.
First of all, this time the story is from Harlen POV haha and damn this is so funny. Different from Kirby's and I'm sure way more perverted than Cai.
It offers us some very spicy scenes which I really enjoyed.
I was taken aback at first, as I'm used to reading from different POVs in the same book, but like the first one, I was into it pretty quickly.

I love that the book is not just about romance and that there is an actual really good plot behind it. I love that everything is not as it seems in the first book. The titles from the three books are kinda of a spoiler itself but whatever I was super happy anyway.
It is kinda difficult to tell you how much I appreciate this book without spoiling you.
This book story was kind of "light and slow" but it was expected as it's the second opus and damn the third will be awesome I'm sure.

But all I can say is that this book is as good as the first one.

The author did really a good job here, this book is a hot MMM but the story is super interesting as well. I recommend !
And can't wait for book 3 from Cai's POV.

I can't even express my level of excitement reading this one. My smiles, my gasps, my internal screams. I'm enjoying these characters and their story a whole lot more than I suspected.

Maybe it's because it has been a while since I've read a truly fantasy book? I remember before all this obsession with romance books, I used to enjoy a good fantasy book. Or maybe this book is really well written.

I don't know, but I'm loving it.

This one is narrated from Harlen's POV, so I could know him a lot more than in the first book. He is a passionate, fun, hot and kind man. I like him a lot. He can be the clown if it makes his lovers relax. He can be flirting and seducing and take their lovers minds out of the problems they have. He is a very valuable piece in this thriad, not only because he's the seer, but because he brings the fun, relaxing and simple way of life, when Cai and Kirby are a cold ice prince and a nervous little fire. He is the earth that grounds them. It's pretty and fun seeing Harlen being just what they need at every moment.

The page when Harlen discovers the true chosen one is Cai????? And the plot about the tylwyth not being the bad boys??? So good.

I love Cai. I can't wait to be in his mind to understand him a little more.

Here’s the thing, this book lacks a substantive plot. If you combined all three book, then I think you can make an argument that a plot kinda exists. The reason it feels like there’s no plot is because the characters aren’t actually going after anything.

While there is a semi-mystery to be solved, re: the Senedd and the Tylwyth, our main characters are not actively trying to solve that mystery on page. While there is a romance, our MCs aren’t actively working through their relationship problems on page. Yes, they fight but if the only thing they do is fuck and ta-da the problem is gone, then I’m not really interested. That’s just boring to me.

So while there is a pretty cool idea for a plot and I love me a throuple, this book just seems like a lot of wasted potential. It seems like the author had explicit things they set out to do. They did them. Did those things stem from a knowledge of writing and storytelling craft? Maybe. Did I like them? Not really.

It’s a hot book with a lot of steamy sex. It has a lil fantasy splashed in it. Definitely something you could finish in 4 hours.

Now this is what I call a proper cover. So pretty. And the inside is just as much - yes, the story is still kind of simple (it's not primitive and it does grow - the whole world grows with every... few chapters? especially since they are now together and there is not as much sex to fill the time) but there is beauty in simplicity. The little twist about... well, twists, really. The story feels a bit predictable and then something unexpected happens to keep you on your toes at least a little.

Also, I (for some reason) really like the modern references. Like, obviously, so many books do it but reading is a solitary activity yet by no means is it an isolated event and these little details keeps us connected, reminds us that the author is a reader as well and we can actually fangirl together. (Also found out he's friends with Jesse H. Reign - NO surprise there).

I think I am not enjoying this as much as I enjoyed the Omega series but I can see some common elements and hey, it's not as frustrating as the Vessel stuff so I count this as a win.

Oh and yes, I do recommend it.

Harlen's POV

Book 2 wasn't quite what I expected. I found it delved very deeply into Harlen's thoughts and feelings, showing him to be more than just his handsome flirtacious exterior. I did find myself skimming through some of Harlen's inner monologues though because they became a bit repetitive and although his insecurities made them valid, I didn't feel so much of it was needed considering his character.

I'm a bit ashamed to say this, but I enjoy this world that S Rodman has created so much, that I actually found myself skimming through some of the spicy scenes just because I wanted to find out what was going to happen next. Some NOT all because they are juicy and the dynamic that the 3 of them have is drool worthy. Mind you I have these scenes bookmarked to come back to on a rainy day.

Kirby was just, who he was. Harlen is more than what one sees. Now I need to know what cracks Cai's stubborn facade.

The one thing I love about this series is that it's told in the 3 main characters' perspectives. The first book told Kirbys prospective it is in Harlems' prospective & next in Cais prospective. 🥰
The storyline was captivating, Kirby is so sweet, Cia is a true leader, and Harlem is the equaliser perfection.❤️

another volume of these hot riders and well it left me cold the truth, the first one had its flaws but they were compensated by its lightness mostly provided by its protagonist who was new to that world, but in this book the new protagonist became unbearable for me and made my experience uphill with his endless monologues where he only repeated and degraded himself and well I didn't believe him, also having doubts about himself, his decisions, his ability and even his bond with the dragon and his lovers and it was that enough please enough of self-pity I had enough of him, and in his eyes the other two guys seemed like simpletons without jokes and without depth, a waste of a book because they didn't advance much more than the plot and more or less, a super bridge book, anyway the truth is that I read them because they are short and that's it.

DRAGONSEER is the second book in the Dragonkin series and is told from Harlen's perspective. The first book was told from Kirby's and the last from Cai's. This makes for a fantastic all-round read, giving extra oomph and depth to an already amazing story. You do need to have read Dragonrider to understand this one, as it follows straight after the events of the first book.

This book is full of action (not all of it between the sheets), intrigue, and revelations. I loved every word! Cai and Harlen have their world rocked to its very foundations - and not by Kirby this time! Plus, fate has decided to put all its players into motion, which gives you an action-packed, fast-paced, incredible story of three men, their dragons, and the love they have for each other.

I loved hearing this story Harlen and think it was just as good as Kirby's. Now, I'm (im)patiently waiting for DragonKing, which will be told from Cai's perspective and possibly bring the arc to a close. I honestly can't wait.

One of the best Dragon series I've read for a while! HIGHLY recommended by me.
