BLURB Desire has sworn off men, especially, handsome men, having escaped an abusive relationship. Sampson had sworn off relationships and beautiful women after a soul crushing embarrassment. Called ugly all his adult life, he believed no woman would want him. This two meet as Desire seeks accommodation in the small town she has decided to start afresh. Sampson’s house is the only place with accommodation, but Desire doesn’t know what to think when the entire town paints him a beast. His attitude is gruff, his appearance is rough enough to be considered beasty, yet, Desire is attracted to him at first sight despite swearing off men. The feeling persists when his gruffness doesn’t align with his kind actions towards her. Sampson suspects his new tenant, especially, when the sight of her brings curious warmth to his chest. Having sworn never to trust beautiful women, he does everything possible to quench that warmth. Can this two overcome their rough past to embrace a chance at happiness?
Emem Bassey loves romance in all its forms. She writes what she terms a hybrid romance - love stories with bits and pieces of other genres. All her stories carry plus size heroines and she staunchly believes the world is filled with tragedy, so she writes to entertain and lighten hearts. Emem lives at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and is basically a ghost to her neighbors.
Desire is on the run from an abusive relationship. She decided to go to her mother's hometown. I loved the chemistry between Sam and Desire. I liked the innocence Sam has when dealing with Desire. She takes the lead and he's willing to learn what pleases her. I loved the story and the Icky Factor Test!
This is the first time I’ve read this author but not my last. Loved Sampson and Desire. We meet her as she is getting out of an abusive relationship and needs somewhere to stay. Sampson, the town’s ‘beast’ is where she ends up staying. And there, they find acceptance and love in each other. But read this book to see how their HEA unfolds. Great story!
Rough is an emotional romance about healing and choosing love after pain. It is a reminder that love can be gentle, even after life has been anything but.
Emem Bassey did an amazing job with description in this book. The characters, events, and even the scents were vivid and easy to picture. This made the book hard to put down.
