Silver Hawk #5

The Returning Warrior

Katy gasped when she saw the  bird. If she hadn't been looking at it, she
wouldn't have believed it. It had a magnificent wing span,
gray in color until it turned and flashed silver under the sunlight.
"Ayeeee," Katy uttered. "What is that?"

Cheetah walked slowly to the edge of
the hillside. He lifted his arm into the air, as if he wanted
to touch it...as if he were calling it to come to him. The bird
swooped low and gently brushed its wing against his shoulder.

Miguelito laughed.

Katy's eyes widened. She
dropped her pen. She looked around. There was no one else
to witness what she was seeing. The bird, the silver hawk, flew
in a circular motion around her brother four times and soared up into
the sky. Katy stared in awe as the bird disappeared beyond a
cloud.

Cheetah turned around and saw Katy
staring at him. He grinned. For a moment, when the hawk
arrived, he forgot that she was sitting there. It was a
familiar high pitched cry that caused him to look toward the sky
again. His lips parted as the bald eagle flew from the
horizon. It appeared to be coming toward him. He held his
breath and waited. At the last moment, the eagle gently glided
up and away, following the path of the hawk.

"Oh my God," Katy uttered.

Cheetah turned at the sound of her
voice. She was beside him.

"Did you see that?" she asked.

"Yes," Cheetah said in a soft
whisper. He had no strength in his voice. It stunned
him. He'd never seen anything like it...in either life time.

"What does it mean?"

"I...I don't know," Cheetah
replied.

"It has to be a good sign for you,"
Katy told him.

"I don't know," Cheetah
repeated.

"How did you get the hawk to touch
you?" Katy asked. She placed a hand gently on his shoulder
where the wing had brushed him. He winced a little. She
realized it was where Sai Khan had put the 'slave' mark.
She looked into the sky, searching for the eagle but he was gone.
