This sounded like such a wonderful story I just knew I had to read it.
When Lainy, a rescue dog comes into Suki and Moll’s lives they at first don’t realise just what they need to do to cope with her PTSD due to her earlier life. But although there are quite a few hiccups along the way, Lainy begins to learn to trust. This is a wonderful story, mainly told from the viewpoint of Moll, who has vowed to help and protect her owner, and Lainy, whose own story of life before she met her forever family is traumatic, and her desire to be wanted. Suki is a beautiful character and I really felt for her as she struggled to understand Lainy and help her, as well as trying to help a musician called Zachary. There is a lot of love in this story, which had my emotions all over the place and by the end of it, I was truly hoping there is going to be a third book.
I haven’t read the first book, The Rescue, yet but I know I will be getting it at the earliest opportunity. At the end of the day, Lainy’s Tale is a wonderfully uplifting story, filled with love and hope and I would heartily recommend it.

How can you possibly refuse to read a book about a dog, as long as you know nothing bad is going to happen to it of course.
This is a strange read, in that its told mainly from the point of view of Moll, who is the friend of Lainy, and is a dog! Suki is old, and struggling, arthritic and slow, but still loves her owner, and wants to protect her, and see that shes happy.
When Lainy comes along, she realises that she will need a lot of guidance, and support, as shes clearly come from horrible situation after horrible situation, starting off on the streets of Romania, to a kill shelter, to the UK, a family who were abusive, and finally her forever home. Lainy is suffering from PTSD, and I must admit, i'd never considered the possiblity of a dog suffering before, but why wouldnt they?
Although it may seem odd to read a book from the point of view of a dog, its actually genius. Have you ever wondered whats going through your pets eyes when they look at you? I think this book would give you a good insight. I like the way they talk about training us. I know as a dog owner, that my little Yorkie has both her owners wrapped around her little finger. She is a rescue, and I think it possibly took mere weeks for her to train us!
It was interesting to read about how they pick up our emotions and moods as well, and they could smell sickness, fear, anger, happiness etc. I loved the way Sue described this, it was so clever and really got me thinking.
As you can imagine, this is not going to be all happiness, and light, its an emotional rollercoaster, and im a massive softie, so had tears streaming more than once. I fell in love with all the characters immediately, and wanted to see happy outcomes, so I really felt like I was alongside them on the journey, and feeling their highs and lows.
As an avid crime reader, this was perfect escapism. The writing draws you in, you cant stop reading, its fully immersive, and before you know if you've reached the end. Sue plays with your emotions at whim, and does it well.
I know this is the second in the series, and I am of course going to go back and read book one now.
As the winter nights are drawing in, and the frost sits outside, grab this book, curl up under a blanket, and get lost in this.

A sweet appointment read set in my home county of Cornwall , especially around Truro and Falmouth areas which had a nice familiarity about it.
I enjoyed how it wasn't only Suki story, you also got the voices of the dogs Lainey, titch and moll in certain chapters and I like that it was such a fresh style to the story.
