Fated Mates of the Varool #3

Possessed by the Alien Warlord

Rate this book
Duty demands I claim my fated mate. Yet I will never love her.

KIRA

As the fleet’s best engineer, I work endlessly to keep everyone alive with little more than spit and a prayer. Then an even more crucial job beckons. Survival demands we crack the enemy’s jamming tech, and I’m just the person to do it.

But the new job is on-planet, and the only way to get there is to marry a Varool.

The biggest, grumpiest alien of the big-and-grumpy bunch claims me. I swear Grol’s made of living stone, but his touch is pure fire, freeing my truest desires. I’m falling fast, but Grol’s emotions are impenetrable. With so much heat between us, his indifference could burn my heart to ash.

GROL

Duke, Head of War, Warlord—I go by many titles, none of them soft. I am the sharp tip of the sword aimed straight at the heart of my enemy.

Then she says my name. Grol, simply Grol. This small human is my fated mate.

I claim her to assuage the mating frenzy, almost losing myself in pleasure. Duty demands that I protect her so she can discover a way to defeat our foe. Yet the longer we are together, the more her intelligence and lightness of spirit affect me.

Enemies attack from all sides, requiring complete focus for the fight. For the first time in my life, my purpose is divided. How can such tiny hands have such a strong grip on my two hearts?

Possessed by the Alien Warlord is a steamy size-difference, grumpy-sunshine romance featuring a fierce alien warrior, a spunky heroine, and plenty of adventure with a guaranteed HEA.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: fated mates/grumpy sunshine
Angst: 😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

I seriously loved this book so much! The storyline is great - it continues the overarching storyline arc of the humans and Varool trying to work together to defeat the insidious Folri, who are a threat to both. I loved Kira. She has a total can-do attitude and will jump into any task, whether she's scared or not. Grol has absolutely no idea what to do with her. He's overwhelmed by their mating bond, but can't do anything to stop the fact he's growing feelings for the super petite powerhouse past just the mating bond itself. I appreciated how supportive he is of her even when he doesn't always know how to show it. Grumpy/sunshine is always a fave of mine and I LOVE it when the heroines have non-traditional jobs like being a mechanic/engineer ❤️ so this one definitely ticked all my boxes.

THREE FOR THREE! This is the third consecutive five-star book in this series IMO! I loved it!
*****
Rating: 5 growly grumpy stars
Steam: 3 growly grumpy flames
Genre: Alien, Fated Mates, Size Difference, Strong Heroine
*****
This author has written THREE consecutive five-star books! How does she do it? Strong heroines, protective heroes, vivid imagery and world building, steam, and a story that keeps me turning the pages THAT’S HOW!

Duke Grol, the large growly alpha warlord has been on my radar since book one and I have been so excited for his book! He was everything I had wanted and more. Protective, gruff, and oh so sexy! Kira, the tiny intelligent engineer, was so incredibly strong and fearless. Can she fix it? Yes, she can! She is brilliant and resourceful, and I loved her character!

I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it; it was mesmerizing. There is so much detail in the world building that I am able to visualize everything that is happening as I read. And the characters…I truly adore the characters in this series, they don’t change who they are for each other… they instead become something better together and to me, that is the best kind of romance! When it comes to the heat, whew… is it hot in here or is it just me because I seriously need to find a Varool! Lastly, although this is a fated mates/insta bonding, the characters still must overcome their fears and preconceptions to grow as a couple. They may have an instant bond, but they don't have instant love. That takes work and growth!

In my opinion, this book is outstanding and is a must-read for fans of aliens who are protective and respectful, strong female protagonists, evil villains that you genuinely want to squash, and a plot that will keep you eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.

This book/series gets all my recommendations, and I can’t wait to see what happens next! A must-read romance!

3.4 stars. It’s perfectly fine but this series is so formulaic that I’m a bit bored. Plus this couple has the tiniest woman and the largest alien. The size difference is in the ridiculous realm.

The formula includes:

1. Arranged marriage to get down to the planet
2. Some sort of travel on foot
3. Meeting/fight with the enemy aliens (always 5 of them… tho this book mixed it up with 10)
4. Local animal decides to become a pet
5. They are both equally interested in the other person but distrust because of past as enemy cultures
6. Positive consent
7. Giant, protective men
8. Smart, capable women who also tend to get injured (but alien man has special healing medical gear)
9. They solve some part of the mystery together
10. Fated mates (even tho totally different cultures and species, the guys always know when they've met their match)

it's a "safe" series because you know what you're going to get. Since it's not on audio, it competes with the gazillion other books I've got on my TBR so it's hard to put it at the top.

It was soo much better than book 1 or 2. No dumb lies finally.

I really liked both characters!

Now I will say the story line is literally the same thing in each book, like even down to how and when the smut goes down. But it’s cute regardless

Wow what a brilliant book and the characters old and new still keep you entertained throughout. Kira Ellis is the main engineer on Chandra space station because her father taught her very well until he died in a freak accident now she is called to the main conference room to fix the media screen and the conversation between King Storr, and Admiral Hutchins about how to knock out the jamming signal that the evil Folri have set up on the planet Sagittarius one. When Kira’s boss Carthers comes to the meeting she doesn’t know what to do and messes up and because Kira is the best it’s now her job to work it out but to get on the planet she must be married and when she is offered to someone else the tall, sexy, grumpy alien male she was caught looking at jumps to his feet saying she is his mate and no other will have her. Duke Grol head of war finds the human female very sexy and she stirs his secondary heart and that only happens when they meet there mate. Now Kira is married to Grol and when he wants to consomate there marriage before they land it better than any human male has ever made her feel. Now that’s done the real jobs starts by finding the Folri ships so Kira can stop the signal from transmitting but in order to do that she needs a ship that hasn’t been damaged and so Grol sets out to find her one and does but there is a animal trapped inside one and it’s a mink- bun and Kira names her Gigi that she saves before the ship blows up. There is heaps more to this story about working together and falling in love and just trusting each other.

This is my favorite Varoolian warriors story so far! Grol is super grumpy and that makes my little romantic heart so Happy! I love a good grump and sunshine pairing and Kira just topped off this beautiful story!

First of all, this story had so much worldbuilding and we really got to know more about the Folri and how they worked and I absolutely loved that!

This story definitely had some similarities! A marriage of convenience resulting in an immediate consummation! I love it when books carry the theme throughout the shared universe! This one's main story was a little different though!

Kira and Grol get to know each other over the course of exploring the Folri ships to figure out how the jammers work and discover more about them! Krista really has this way of creating this enrapturing world that just leaves you wanting more and more.

While the steam is super prevalent in this book, the story and the worldbuilding are the most important and Krista tells an amazing story worth reading! Seriously! Do yourself a favor and read this series! You won't regret it and you get an adorable alien pet in each one! Amazing Scifi Romance story with amazing storytelling! You don't want to miss out!

Incredibly Good Story !! . . .

I enjoyed the characters in this story. Kira Ellis is a confident, feisty engineer who seems capable and clever as she keeps everyone safe. With her aptitude and flexibility for solving their next problem with the insectoid enemy Folri, she was chosen to marry and descend to the planet Sagittarian One with her new Varool husband, Duke Grol. Grol was loving and protective of her and would willingly give his life to keep her from harm. Both of them were highly intelligent and the perfect choices for this critical mission.

The world-building was done very well, and the examination of the ships added to the feeling of being there and seeing it all for ourselves. The characters were likable and their interaction supported the development of their relationship. The pacing of the story was perfect, and I enjoyed the action and suspense that pulled me in from the start. This is a really good series and I look forward to reading more. Grab your copy and join them in the difficult mission against this enemy. Everyone’s survival will depend on them.

Kira is one of the top engineers in the human fleet. The fleet ships are in bad shape and she spends her days just trying to keep them together. She lost her father in an accident a year ago and recently a virus killed all the human men. The virus had been made to chase of the Varool, an alien warrior race who wanted to same planet that the humans did. An insect race called the Folri had captured the human research base and altered the virus to try to kill both races. The humans lost all their males and the Varool lost all their females. The Varool and the humans decide to work together and live together on the new planet if they can get rid of the Folri. To get rid of them, they must first find them but the Folri have a jamming technology. Kira is their best hope for finding and dealing with the Folri technology but she will have to go down to the planet to do it. The Varool/human treaty states that only mated human/varool couples can go down to the planet so Kira is expected to marry a Varool. To her shock, the huge sexy warlord to the royal family claims her.

Grol is not a happy warlord. He feels that he failed in his duty when he wasn't at the king and prince's side in their earlier danger. He wants nothing more than to go down to the planet and kill all the enemy. He is also not pleased to be dealing with humans who he believe are dishonorable and untrustworthy. When he sees Kira that all changes. To his shock, she is his fated mate and he can't let anyone else claim her. Taking her down to the planet will save both their races but he is determined not to fall in love with her.

This is the last book in the Series Fated Mates of the Varool's. Grol and Kira are fantastic characters. Kira is an Engineer, natural techy and loves to take things apart and put them back together. Kira is sent planet side to help the Varool destroy the enemies. She has to marry a Varool and ends up with the biggest, grumpiest warrior she's ever seen. Grol knows that Kira is his mate and it was great that they accepted each other warts and all. The steam between them sizzles but like all couples they still have to overcome fears and misconceptions and as they do that they become stronger. This story was fast paced, action, danger, adventure, twists, suspense, and steam. Can't say enough about this series as if you like Sci-Fi you will love these books. Krista Luna is a new author and I enjoyed her books so much. Will keep my eye's on her.

"Possessed by the Alien Warlord" is book three in the "Fated Mates of Varool" series by Krista Luna. I have enjoyed all three books, but this one is the best. The reason it is my favorite,so far, was the characters. You know with a name like Grol, the male character is going to be this big brawny, grumpy bear. And he is perfectly attracted to the female character, Kira, who is super a sweet, but capable woman who has a brain. The back story woven between the books keep things connected, but allow a standalone read, if you get lost on which book follows which. Look forward to the next in series

I love Kira and Grol. Of course as fated mates they have instant chemistry, but the best part was seeing their emotional connection build. Them learning to work together on the planet and their misunderstandings and triumphs were such great fun. There was a pretty good mix of action and emotion and sexy times to keep me flying through the book.

I loved how fascinated Kira is by all the tech and how she constantly wants to take things apart. And all the background Kira discovered about their shared enemy during the mission was fascinating. I hope we get to read more about it as the series continues.

That said, I do think this book could be read as a standalone. This is the third installment in the series. Some might prefer to read the others to get the overall story, but I have only read one and I got the gist. Plus it's such a good story with enough background mixed in that I don't think if it really matters.

Grol doesn’t want a human mate but can’t help claiming Kira. Kira is an engineer for the human star fleet. She extremely intelligent and loves to fix and see how things work. Grol and kira sign the marriage contract and set off to the planet find where the enemies jamming signals is coming from. Both Grol and kira secretly are in love with one another but it takes dangerous situations for each of them to admit it. I love reading about strong protective and attractive males who would do anything to keep their strong and independent women safe.

3.5 rounded up

I liked the change in personality for MCs, with Kira being less fierce but still intelligent. They had some solid chemistry. I would have liked to see more of Grol working through his shit, but maybe that’ll happen later in the series.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: violence, gore, injury, explosion, grief, pandemic (off page)

Kira is the human fleets best engineer and Grol who likes to be called Warlord go head to head in this entertaining Sci-Fi Romance full of the energy and adventure that also made its predecessors great reads.
With the alien Varool’s peace treaty caveat stipulating only mated couples can live on the newly discovered planet Sagittarian One things are about to get dicey for Kira who has been tagged for deployment to the planet to figure out their shared enemy the Folri’s tech.
I really enjoyed this third entry in the series with its action running at full speed and sexual tension between the two leads steaming things up.
A well written narrative with its vibrant characters keeps the story flowing at an exciting pace delivering one heck of a good read!

I loved this book! I read the two books before this- Possessed by the Alien King and Possessed by the Alien Prince- and loved them as well. I rated those 5 stars, and this one is definitely worthy of the same. Great world building. Wonderful characters. Kira and Grol have such steamy chemistry. This is a grumpy/sunshine romance (who doesn't love those?). The story has action, suspense, and excitement. Well written and well paced. Fantastic edition to this series. I recommend it. 5 stars.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Possessed by the Alien Warlord is a sci-fi alien romance by Krista Luna. It's the third book from the Fated Mates of Varool.

The humans and the Varoolians were working together so they could defeat the Flori. In order to do that they had to understand their advanced technology. They intended to send their best human engineer to Sagittarian One to check their ships. That engineer was Kira Ellis, and since only mated couples went on that planet she had to marry a Varool. Duke Grol, Head of War, felt that she was
his fated mate and claimed her. After their heated mating session they reached the new planet and started their exploration. The abandoned ships didn't give any information to Kira so they had to find a new one. The Flori were always one step ahead of them, and that resulted in mini deadly battles. Grol promised to protect his little mate or die trying...

It's such a great story. It is told by a dual pov and it's filled with heated moments and lots of suspense. Two parts of the story are focused on the exploration of the technology and the battles with the Flori. The remaining part is about their relationship.
I love that every book has so many different characters and the plot has more action. Here it was more obvious that Kira was the brain and Grol the muscle of the operation. Their common characteristic was that both of them were determined to do their best in order
to achieve their mission. My favorite parts were when they found the little animal and the last fight with the enemy.

I really liked this book and I highly recommend it to everyone, just make sure to read the whole series.
I will rate it with 4,5 stars.

3.5⭐️ The story is great but I’m not a fan of the “she’s so tiny, he’s so huge” trope.

I love this series as a whole and will absolutely be reading the rest of it!

Grol is a Duke and the Warlord of the Verool Empire. He swore to the late queen of his homeworld that he would protect her two sons, the actual King Storr and the crown prince Lun. With the two perilous adventures that the two just went through, he feels deep down that he has done a poor job and blames himself for failing to honor his late queen.

Kira lost her father a year or so ago. He was an engineer on the vessel where she was born and her closest friend and mentor as she also embraced the Engineering profession. As a matter of fact, everytime something goes wrong, they call on her to fix it.

This is what happens when after repairing a sewage pipe, she is summoned to the admiral's conference room. upon her arrival, she is shown the main projection screen where nothing works. while working, Kira overhears part of a conversation where a weapon used by their common enemy , the Fiori, has been confiscated but no one seems to know how it works. They ask the head of Engineering who got promoted by taking credit for some one else' work and. obviously she has no clue. Kira gives a mumbled opinion and is surprised when Grol ask that she elaborate. To prove her theory, she must travel to the planet surface . The treaty conditions are quite clear. She must mate and consumate before being allowed to make The voyage. King Storr proposes an officer but Grol rizes and objects as he claims that Kira is his mate.

The author, through her gift, succeeds in writing a sequel to this great series that carries strong messages. " Don't judge a book by it'cover and don't take the weight of the world on your shoulders."

A great story that I highly recommend as it is the one that appealed to me the most and rate 5 Stars

🔥 “You are everything I ever wanted and never thought to deserve.”

I loved Kira so much! She’s so smart, resourceful, responsible and kind. I loved her bravery when facing danger and her determination to succeed in finding a solution to the Folri problems. Even more, she had such a sweet and sunny personality - quite in contrast to her grumpy husband.

And Head of War Duke Grol is not just grumpy - he’s SUPER grumpy! He’s one of the toughest Varoolian warriors - big, strong, fearsome and bossy. But underneath all his growly attitude hides a fiercely protective, caring and sweet male. I absolutely adored everything about him!

The development of their relationship was so perfect! Kira and Grol had fantastic chemistry and the passion they shared was off-the-charts hot. Even more, they were an amazing team and complemented each other so well. They’re definitely a force to be reckoned with and an absolutely perfect match!

In addition, the worldbuilding was phenomenal, as usual! We got to explore more of Sagittarian One and even the Folri ships. The storyline and the new discoveries kept me glued to the pages till the very end. And, let’s not forget Gigi - oh, I loved Gigi so much!

Overall, the story is another remarkable addition to the series. It’s filled with fast-paced action, danger, suspense, adventure, twists, steamy romance and magnificent characters.

I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every single page of it!

I’m totally addicted to the series and cannot wait to see what happens next!

“I am never too hurt to hold you,” I said. “With my last breath, I will reach for your touch.”

Third times a charm! Amazing book filled with all the emotions one can handle! I'm in love with Varoolians!

Kira may be the smallest engineer on the spacestation but when the fit hits the shan, she's the one you call. It doesn't matter the object, if it's broken - she'll fit it.

Warlord Grol lives for one thing and one thing only - destroying their enemy. It's not just a job for him, it's in his very nature to be THE Warlord of the warrior race.

Grol immediately recognizes Kira as his fated mate and he is none too happy about it. Not only are humans weak but she's just a bity thing.

As Grol and Kira make their way to the planet to inspect the technology of their enemy, the Folri, the passion is flowing but is it love?

I BLAZED through this one, I couldn't put it down! Who doesn't love a monstrous man that is dedicated to you?!

The action in this is the best so far, hands down. There were moments that I had to force myself to breathe through! The pacing on this book was superb! It never lagged, the plot was always clear and in focus, and the attention to the details was amazing!

I cannot believe how intricate the Folri are! It is so different from what we typically see and I don't think what is similar has been done as well as it is here. This was a grand slam, outta the park, HOMERUN!

Oh and did I mention the humor in this one! I love the poop and butt jokes found in this series! The humanisms that don't translate well crack me up and there is never a dull moment in the book!

Grol and Kira

As the human fleet’s most gifted engineer, Kira Ellis has been tagged to try and discover just how the Folri are jamming signals on Sagittarian I.
Since access to the planet is restricted to mated couples, Kira finds herself quickly wedded and bedded by the attractive Varoolian warlord Grol.
The planet isn’t the most hospitable place for a woman who spent her entire life on space vessels, but an alien warlord is more than capable of keeping them safe…

Book three takes place a little after books one and two. Now that everyone knows the Folri insectoids are involved, it’s a rush against time trying to find a way to make sure that they don’t destroy the only planet left in the quadrant, where the humans and Varoolians can make their home.
Of our three heroines so far, I’ve enjoyed Kira the most, partly because her relationship doesn’t start with a lie, and partly because she’s a big personality in a tiny package. Grol is a grumpy giant, which makes for entertaining reading as he struggles to deal with the small fated mate he never expected.
This is a fun sci-fi romance with plenty of action, a big bad alien needing to be defeated, and of course the obligatory alien pet (this one is like a ferret).
Recommended for sci-fi romance lovers.

I really love the fresh take in this series.

So humanity destroyed earth with capitalism and fled to find a new world. Finally, with resources running low, we stumbled across an inhabitable planet.. two months later much more technically and physically advanced aliens show up. Their world had been destroyed by roach type bad guy aliens - sooo they expect us to not only share but let them run the show on the new planet. Humanity being stubborn is like, nah. We accidentally kill all their women andddd all our men with a virus.. or did we? Now humans and the pushy better than us aliens have to work together to save this new world.

The alien men? Swoon. True warriors & they have fated mates? Yes please. Don’t get me started on their “special equipment”

The human women? Strong, smart, brave - not the average whiny OR over powered unrelatable FMC, no Krista Luna always comes with genuine relatable FMCs.

Kira is an amazing engineer, and gets called into a meeting between the Admiral, the King, The Prince, and the Warlord, among others. During the course of the meeting, Kira steps close to Warlord Grol, and bam! His Zural heart starts beating for her. This is not what he wants or was expecting. The Humans and Varoolians need Kira’s help understanding the Folri technology, but Kira cannot go to the planet unless she is mated. Grol does not hesitate, and next thing you know, they are mated and heading for Sagittarian One, to work together to defeat the Folri. Another cute little animal becomes family, and Gigi is as sweet as the previous planet wildlife, well, except for the few that have attacked! Kira is too sweet to resist for long, and it is heart warming to see the big warlord melt. Great story with lots of action and impressive physical feats by Grol and insightful mental feats by Kira. These two make the perfect team!

"I wanted to take this entire ship apart!"

Grol's people have been dealing with an enemy that uses ships, weapons and hammers they can't track because they simply don't understand how they operate or how to scan for them.

Kira is the human Engineer everyone calls for the most challenging problems, and as we discover during this story, it's with good reason.

This done in one Kindle Unlimited quick read deals with looking at problems from different angles, being willing to reexamine what you thought you knew in light of new information, and discovering just hoe important, and special, a clever, and creative, mind can be.

Things are getting more intense and will take the combined efforts of both the Varool and humans to find a way to defeat the enemy threatening their new home-which means the huge gruff Warlord needs to work side by side with the petite, spunky human engineer to find a solution. Can they stop the invasion and save their home and come to understand their budding feelings for one another?

Nothin gets me more than a huge grump who is so soft for his mate and this grump is so into his lady-he just won't admit it yet!

This book has all the goodies:
Forced proximity
Fated mates
Size difference

A great series

This book is Kira and Grol’s story. Total scifi grumpy/sunshine romance. Kira has been using all her brain and engineering expertise to keep the human fleet flying, and keeping herself from the heartbreak of losing her father. Now she has been matched with the stoic Grol and sent to investigate the enemy’s technology.
I love this couple and how well they work together, but also as much, I love the overarching story in this series. Krista has created a great blend of romance and adventure, with cool alien tech and a fun alien pet mixed in.

I loved this alien sci-fi romance with Kira and Grol I believe that you can read this book as a standalone but for more enjoyment and to know what the storyline is about then you should read this series from the beginning but it’s not necessary. I loved the characters, the descriptions, the action, adventure, suspense, danger, passion and so much more to keep you entertained and turning the pages. This is a fantastic story I loved it and I highly recommend this book.

The third book in the Fated Mates of the Varool series a well written stoy with a good storyline that kept me turning pages. I enjoyed seeing Duke, Head of War, Warlord the grumpy Grol and human and the fleet’s best engineer Kira get their happy ending. There is suspense, drama, danger, evil Folri and romance. The story was well worth reading. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
