The Fall

With the fall of the Knights of Templar, the suppression of the evil Umbra came to an end. They could once again roam free and seek vengeance wherever they landed—the bringers of chaos into the world of men and of the Others. The Knights, denied their right of power and need to protect, turned Guardians, slink in and out of the shadows, defending this world against the malicious Umbra and their Queen.

The Prophecy of the Chosen One

*A baby girl will be born of both fire and light. The sun will kiss her left wrist, remaining with her always. Through the years, she’ll grow strong in wisdom and combat. A tournament will be held in all three sectors. Two by two they will be chosen, and she will be their fierceless leader. The Guardians of War will defeat an evil darkness that will unleash an army so lethal it will be unlike anything ever witnessed, but in the end, she will lead the society's to victory. They along with all nations, people's, and tongues will win the Third Great War and restore the peace and unity that once ruled this Earth.*

Arabella Grace St. James is about to learn the truth of her destiny in a most horrifying way. This story will never be told in the History books of the world, but it's a powerful story that all future Guardians should know. She finds that the road to redemption isn't paved with gold and that love comes in the color gray. She learns that tragedy strikes more than once in a lifetime and that Great Wars are not won overnight.

This book will end on a cliffhanger, and you will need to read the books in order as they are released.

This story is simple yet complex, simple in the author gives clear explanations and is easy for the reader to gather all the needed information but complex because there is so many moving parts, it's almost a little too much all thrown into one book. It made me think of like a modern-day dystopia story with a mix of fantasy and romance. It has a wide variety of characters that includes all manner of species. I didn't feel a connection to the MFC but loved the MMC, and it had a decent amount of spice. It will be interesting to see where the author takes the series down the road and what character development will happen. Feels young teen except for the spice.

Absolutely devoured!! This was such a good introduction into the rest of the world. I absolutely loved the magic system and the way it’s told in modern day made it very easy to get into! This was different from any other fantasy I’ve read and I absolutely say that as a good thing, I can’t wait to find out what happens! So lucky to have received an arc copy ❤️

Ok, so let me tell you what Ellis Worth did to me with this one. 😂😂 Let me preface by saying that I LOVE Ellis and her writing. Her humor is top tier! And while I’m a huge fantasy fan, urban fantasy is not usually for me. I have a harder time getting into it, and it always feels like (for me) that it leans a little to close to sci-fi, and I lose interest. But, like I said, I adore Ellis, and decided to give this one a shot. And I’m so glad I did! Once the humor kicked in, I was sold! Then the plot started plotting, the action picked up, and don’t even get me started on shadow daddy Sebastian! 🫠🫠 The telepathic banter made my spine tingle a little bit! -lol-
If you’re like me and not normally an urban fantasy girlie or guy, I definitely recommend you give this one a try, because by the end I had a GREAT time! I’m excited to see where Ellis takes this series!

If you know me, fantasy is not my favorite genre to read. Not because it isn’t good, but because it usually overwhelms me so much with the world building and I get so confused and can’t remember everything. If more fantasy books were written like Ellis wrote Trial of Light I would read so much more fantasy. I love how she explains everything in a way that doesn’t feel like you’re reading the dictionary. It’s exciting and easy to comprehend and she gets you so invested in the characters that you’re able to absorb the info easily and keep up. There’s also usually bouts of really, slow boring parts in fantasies, not this one, it has a great pace and the action just keeps going until the very end. I love Sebastian and his banter with Arabella. I can’t wait to see what happens next and how their relationship evolves!

In the midst of turmoil, a prophecy foretells the birth of a chosen one, a girl marked by fire and light. Arabella Grace St. James, unaware of her destiny, faces a harrowing journey of self-discovery. As she grapples with the weight of her role, Arabella learns that redemption is not easily attained, and love is a complex tapestry of shades. With the looming threat of a devastating darkness, Arabella must lead the Guardians of War to confront an unprecedented evil, striving to restore peace and unity amidst the chaos of the Third Great War.

Arabella's journey unveils truths about sacrifice, resilience, and the enduring power of hope. This gripping tale promises an epic saga, leaving readers eager for the next installment as they embark on a thrilling adventure alongside Arabella and her allies.

Review:

Plot and Storytelling: 4/5; I found the plot to be incredibly detailed and intricate, earning a solid 4/5. The book promised an epic tale, which usually means an initial dump of information. I appreciated that the details were given throughout the book instead of all at once.

Characterization: 3/5; While the characters' growth felt believable and relatable, some relationships seemed too sudden, lacking sufficient buildup.

Writing Style: 4/5; Worth's writing style impressed me, scoring a 4/5. It struck a balance between engaging prose and avoiding excessive jargon. The banter was enjoyable, though there were occasional cringe-worthy lines.

Originality: This book added a fresh twist to familiar tropes, earning a respectable 4/5 for originality.

Emotional Impact and Resolution: While the book took me on an emotional rollercoaster, I felt somewhat disconnected by the end, warranting a 3/5 rating. Nonetheless, the resolution was satisfying and left room for future sequels.

Smut: The smutty moments were sudden but well-executed, earning a perfect 5/5 for their enjoyable nature.

Overall score: 3.83 rounded to 4/5

If you enjoyed "Trial of Light" by Ellis Worth, you might like “Throne of Glass" by Sarah J. Maas. It’s a fantasy series following an assassin as she navigates deadly challenges, political machinations, and unexpected alliances in a richly imagined world.

Trial of light by Ellis worth arc review

5⭐️⭐️ 3.5 🌶️

⚔️ fantasy
☀️ secret life
⚔️fated mates
☀️ “mine”

This book is what you want in a fantasy book, it has dragons, betrayal, secrets, kings and queens, hidden family, that leads you just wanting more. The breadcrumbs she has in the book are perfect that they leave you having more questions after rereading it.

If you love reading about dragons, and fated mates, this is perfect.

Arabella is just your normal girl she has her bestie and her aunt and uncle and she is loving school, but hating the typical mean girl. Then comes one day where things aren’t as they seem.

Sebastian is the prince who’s trying everything in his power to make his presence known to Arabella, and showing her that he’s the man worth being with.

It takes you on a wild ride, but worth it! And the cliffhanger 🤯

Arabella’s life is about to change drastically, and she will be confused but is strong. She will meet new people that will help her navigate the challenges headed her way. This magical world is in trouble, and she will have to learn quickly to help. She meets Ethan and Sebastian and feels an attraction to both. Can she be ready for what’s coming her way? Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing Book. I absolutely love Arabella and her character development. Great supporting characters. This magical world is fascinating, intense, and dangerous. This book has all the feels nonstop action, mystery, and adventure. Read your trigger warnings. This book ends on a cliffhanger I can’t wait for the next book.

What a start to the series. I loved every second of this book. I was hooked from the very beginning. Arabella is an absolute queen, and I can't wait to see where Ellis takes her character.

I loved the concept of this book it was different than a lot of fantasy books I have read, but it has all of the amazing elements we can't get enough of.

Sebastian is going to become my favourite shadow daddy ever 🥵 he is obsessed with Arabella, and the possessiveness is top tier.

The world building was perfect. We get to know the different factions and the history of the Lux and some background from the characters we meet along the way.

Can we also just talk about Falkon 🙌 I am in love with that sassy dragon.

This book was the most perfect introduction to this world and the characters, and I can't wait for the rest of the series.

This is just the beginning of the Trial of Light series! The MFC Arabella is going to have quite a journey in front of her and I can't wait to see where this goes. I would have loved a little more world and character building, but I'm hopeful for that in the continuation of the series. Minus the couple of spicy scenes I would consider this more YA fantasy as it is very fast paced and a lot of trials going on for the FMC to end up facing. I can already see that since the FMC goes from normal high schooler to someone of great importance the underlying message to get from this series is going to be about finding and embracing your true self that you didn't even know existed.

A plus- Ellis used a Taylor Swift line and I LOVED IT!

Oh my gosh this book was amazing! The way that it’s in modern time it keeps you hooked and you can’t stop reading. This book is fantasy but not your normal fantasy book. It’s set in our time period.

Arabella is our mfc and she is a badda** b**** who don’t put up with nobody bs. Arabella is completely shocked that there was a hole different side of her life that she was kept from until it came knocking at her door.

Arabella had no idea she belonged to another world. She is part fire and light and throughout the book she learns more.

Don’t get me started on the dark shadow named Sebastian. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ oh my I think we all need one of him.

I highly recommend this book. It was sooooo goooood.

The angst the heartbreak the love the adventure the STORY! This book has it all. I absolutely love it and I need more like yesterday lol. Oh and did I mention the spice and the goodness leading up!!!!! Well your gonna have to read it to find out about that good stuff haha. I can not wait to see where Arabella’s story goes. If you’re looking for an all consuming fantasy that you won’t be able to put down. This one’s for you. Highly recommend! Definitely one of the best fantasies I’ve ever read!!!!

Mic drop for Ellis worth. This book had me intrigued from the very begging. Fantasy is a genre I’m new to loving, however the way this author made it modern day fantasy and easy to follow along has me hooked.

Arabella Grace St. James is the bad a** FMC who has indured the unimaginable in her life already. Trial of light brings us along a new life changing discovery and adventure for Arabella. Although this new life is abruptly brought upon her, Arabella stays courageous and headstrong.

The author uses such vivid descriptions of the characters that it was so easy to visualize them while reading along, especially Sebastian 🥵

Ellis ends the book on a cliffhanger that just leaves you NEEDING more. I cannot wait for the next book!

Oh Ellis.. This is a quite a book. This was not like any other fantasy books I have read. The world building was great and the relationship between Sebastian and Arabella is captivating. I cannot believe this is her first fantasy book. I could definitely see Ellis' humor into her writing. I was entranced from the beginning and the pace was set wonderfully. I can't wait for the next book. ❤️

You know it's easy to get lost in some of the fantasy world building. This world is one I could easily want to stay in. It was so well explained and even if the magic was difficult it was also well done that you didn't get lost. The main characters for so well. I don't think you could put this book down until the end. This was more than an amazing read. It was an amazing everything. Can I have my own Sebastian.... asking for a friend of course......

I enjoyed this book. The world building was easy to follow along with, the pacing was good..never a dull moment because Arabella goes from a normal senior in high school to being thrown into a world that she needs to prepare to help save! So many twists, turns and straight bad-ass moments that have me excited for the next book.

Oh man, where to begin??

There is so much happening in this book, such excitement and heartbreak and excitement and heartbreak again. Worlds I never dreamed of with skull I could never imagine.

Arabella is set to be an amazing center to the story, with her best friend Merrie-Beth beside her the whole way. The story is full of twists and turns, and surprises you never saw coming.

I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I am typically not a fantasy girlie, BUT I read Wallflower No More (not fantasy) and fell in love with how Ellis writes. So if she writes it, I will read it.

At about 30% of the way through, I loved how I could understand the world we are being brought into and how everything works. Have I had to make notes for myself to keep things straight? Yes. But that’s just me and mom brain. Lol

Ellis does a great job at explaining the world/factions and not only once. She touches on them as mini reminders as you make your way through the book without making it noticeable.

I’m excited to see how this story continues in the future 🤍

I devoured this!! Ellis, I need the next book now!! If you like magic, dragons, vampires, and fae, you will love this fantasy read!! There is some spice, but not a lot! I love the sarcasm of Arabella, and I can see Ellis saying some of these things jokingly! I love her so much! I laughed so much at the banter in the book and found it keeping me entertained. WOW!! What an exciting and thrilling way to start this new fantasy series. I was blown away by how captivating it was from start to finish. I could not take my eyes off the pages, and it literally kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through.

The imaginative and unique imagery woven into a creative story and the phenomenal world building transformed this story to life right before my eyes. And the characters – WOW – each was well fleshed out and instantly pulled you into their individual auras.

I loved that the story was centered around the modern world and with a complex magic system and unique others that are hidden from humans.

I have to say that I instantly loved Arabella and her kickass attitude. Even when life-changing secrets were kept from her, she seems to take it all in stride and not let that deter from her fierceness. She is resilient, determined and a warrior queen through and through!

Shadow daddy Sebastian – DAMN – DAMN – DAMN. I honestly can’t wait for more of him because he is just too delicious for words.

Really well written story with amazing characters and with a storyline that is filled with action, suspense, adrenaline inducing moments, secrets, drama, emotional turmoil, humor and a slow building, body tingling, panty combusting fire that will soon be raging out of control!!!

And that ending OMG!!! I can hardly wait for the next part of this amazing story.

Nobody writes like Ellis Worth...absolutely nobody. She has this unique style to her writing layout that I have yet to see another writer do where she puts character inner monologuing as the header to her chapters to set the tone for the chapter to come and it's fabulous.
I have been a fangirl of Ellis for quite sometime  but up until now her works have leaned more into the morally grey romance side of things so I wasn't sure how I felt going into this book.  Fantasy is not my typical go-to genre (not that I don't thoroughly enjoy fantasy, I do, but I'm super neuro spicy and sometimes heavy world building can just be a LOT.) The way Ellis seamlessly bridged a gap between a (very intricate and beautifully written) fantasy world and our modern day world was actually SO GOOD and it sucked me in almost immediately.

If your shopping list includes:

I listened to Trial of Light on audible narrated by Audrey Obeyn and omg! Ellis Worth is an amazing author!! I couldn't stop listening!

It's a 5 star all around!!

Trial of Light follows Arabella, discovering the truth about the world she's been raised in. She's finding out who she really is and who her parents were. More importantly, she's finding out her true purpose as The Chosen.
She's thrown into a world that's at war, and she's the one that's going to save them!? She's chosen by a dragon. She finds her powers. She has 2 men who desire to be with her. She has a whole new life that she had no clue existed. It's a rollercoaster of twists and turns. What path will she go? The path to victory or the path of destruction!?

I highly recommend Trial of Light as your next read. If you liked ACOTAR or Fourth Wing, you will definitely like Trail of Light!!

I had the honor of reading this book before release. A young woman who has trained her whole life to be a warrior. There are some secrets that she doesn't know, and obstacles that she will have to battle through. Another warrior with possessive instincts of the beautiful FMC comes in to play. Will she win her battles and find love? Will there be more to the story than imagined? I guess you will have to read to find out.

This was a wonderful young adult fantasy with twists and turns. The cliffhanger this author has a habit of leaving you on isn't very nice, just kidding, I love it. I can't wait to see where this story goes in the future.
