From beloved, RITA-award-winning author Kennedy Ryan comes her gripping All the King's Men duology.

The Kingmaker

In a world of haves and have-nots, Maxim Cade's family and their oil empire have it all…and he wants nothing to do with it. At odds with his mogul father, he's determined to build his own empire, even if it means traveling far from home, painted as the black sheep.

Lennix Hunter is the exception to every one of Maxim's rules. At a protest for the oil pipeline that threatens to mar her ancestral land forever, they meet in a flurry of stars and sparks, and that one moment changes everything. But Maxim's family is the one stealing from hers, and his father is the man she hates most. He has to lie in order to have her once, and despite the truth, he'll do anything to keep her.

Even though Lennix tries to hate Maxim, too, their hearts are pointed in the same direction. The inexorable pull between them, across miles and years, will not be denied.

And neither will Maxim.

The Rebel King

Though surrender is what Maxim Cade demanded of Lennix Hunter's body and heart, she had other plans. They were fast-burning fascination and combustible chemistry, the son of an oil baron and the Apache daughter at war with his family, but she trusted him, and he turned out to be a thief who stole her love.

Still, if what they had was a lie, why had it felt so real?

Now, the man she swore to hate is about to have it all, and he wants Lennix at his side. But when the two of them are forced to face the unthinkable, their rocky foundation is tested, as is the invisible thread that seems to wind their fates together. As they navigate a treacherous political landscape in their quest for justice, Maxim and Lennix soon learn that power is a game, and they are merely the pawns and players. Facing insurmountable odds, will they win the world, or will they lose it all?

The best part about this book was reading it with my girls!
The romance didn’t feel like romance to me,BUT I am still excited to see what Kennedy Ryan’s other books are about because I have heard great things!

5 Stars for a Rebel King

This is truly romantic suspense. There are several twists and turns, but I inherently trust Kennedy Ryan to give readers a safe landing (after her characters go through some major stuff). The Rebel King was a five-star read. The absolute perfect balance of the author’s deep research, spice, and over-arching message.

✔️ Dual POVs (Maxim x Lennix)
✔️ Set in Washington, D.C.
✔️ Open-door contemporary romance (4/5🌶️)
✔️ Tropes: Romantic suspense; indigenous characters; political romance
⚠️ Both books are meant to be read as a series, cannot be read as a standalone

The Kingmaker:
Okay, this was a much awaited book for me to read. I tried so hard to listen to the audiobook first (Jason Clarke DUH) but that's when I learned that I cannot process new books on a listen. So I finally dived in and bought the two book bundle. I loved the dynamic between Lennix and Maxim. The angst really hit and though I found it very frustrating with the time jump, it still paid off at the end of the book. I didn't love the whole "she was 17 but technically we didn't do anything" or the whole "we spent time apart and I fucked lots of women but no one like you" in my romance books but I digress. It was a great read and I LOVE the indigenous representation. 4/5

The Rebel King:
After that cliffhanger, I was taking no breaks from this book. I dived in immediately. I really went through all the emotions. I was scared, tense, happy, shocked, sad, outraged, and well, lusty. Like damn, the spice was hot. It was constant but still maintained the strength of the overall plot. Loose ends were tied up and everyone was at a place in their life where they felt more settled. I was on the edge of my seat until the last page (and epilogue). Loved this. 5/5

6 ⭐️ Gosh where do I even begin with these books?!?!
I absolutely loved the concept. Think of the show Scandal except the female main character is American Indian. The representation of Indigenous values/experiences was so refreshing to see in a book. This book touched on the rate of murdered/missing Native American women, reservation issues, and the desecration of sacred land for capitalism (in this case it’s an American oil company).

The romance and love between the two main characters was both heart warming and gut wrenching. The connection only intensified the spicy scenes (and boy were they spicy. This might be spicier than some dark romances I’ve read).

Not a single bad thing I can say about these books & no, I will not be reading other reviews that say otherwise 😭

I enjoyed reading these two books (book 1 and 2 of All the King's Men). The first time I read a book by this author. The characters are well developed. I felt deeply for the two main characters. I like that you get the point of view from both the main characters. I was really sad when something tragic happened (I can't say what because it would spoil it). I couldn't believe it happened and I felt deeply for all the characters. I grieved with them. Sex scenes were unbelievable! very well written and would recommend.

excellent Story

My 1st Kennedy Ryan book but definitely not my last. I loved these stories and the work the author put in to get the details right and bring a bit of fiction while opening our eyes to some truth.

All the Kings Men

Lennix and Maxim's story is so compelling. I am blown away by their character development and strength they both showed throughout their story.

I love LOVE

The passion in this book was intoxicating. I love how Maxim unapologetically loved Lennix. I would definitely recommend this book.

This book has so much thought about Native Americans and our country. This is a book I will definitely be reading again.
