This book has been on my TBR for a long time. I borrowed my copy to read recently from the District Library Leh. There are 16 chapters in total and all of them are standalone stories. The author’s aim of safeguarding the fading intangible heritage of the Nubra Valley has been successfully accomplished through this book. Every chapter holds its own unique essence, where sometimes you can't help but feel that you are reading an adventurer’s personal journal. This book might be about a collection of folklore- traditions, customs or beliefs but it felt personal on a deeper level. The author also doesn't hesitate to give his opinions and suggestions at the end of some chapters.
Overall, it's an interesting book.
Question: Will I recommend this book?
Answer: Not to everyone. Only those whom I know will appreciate recounting stories of old.
I think it's a must read for the young folks from Nubra Valley.

My only question to the author is why he chose ‘The Peeping Mountain’ as the title for the book? The chapter clearly mentions that it signifies bad luck and misfortune. Then, why name a hopeful book that is all about ‘breathing life back into the cherished traditions’ using a title that is lacking optimism?
