Pinter P.I. #2

No One Left

Rate this book
Private investigator James Pinter expects mostly bail jumper and larceny cases after opening his new P.I. business and accepting a position as expert consultant to the Navajo Tribal Police. But no sooner has James settled into the job when George Morris—a familiar face from James’s last case—goes missing. A day later, James finds out why. George is suspected of murdering an Albuquerque judge and his wife.

James’s connections to the reservation make him a sought-after asset and he is quickly called up to work on the double homicide case. But he immediately hits a snag. Something is wrong with the crime scene, and what’s more, an informant is convinced that the police are going after the wrong man.

Then another call comes in from George Morris himself begging James to prove his innocence. But James isn’t convinced George is as blameless as he claims. As James untangles the knots leading George to the judge, he’s drawn into a web of political deceit involving some of the most secretive and powerful people in New Mexico. With his new P.I. business on the line, James realizes that someone is trying to set him up to take the fall on a case that was botched from the beginning. The only thing left to do? Find the real killer. And fast.

TITLE: NO ONE LEFT
SERIES: Pinter P.I. Book 2/3
AUTHOR: Lisa Doyle
PUB DATE: 07.23.2024

I loved the first book in this trilogy and could not wait to dive in to another Pinterest PI book. I enjoyed the fast paced read and reading from multiple POVs, set in a Native American reservation. James opened shop as a private investigator and as a consultant for the Navajo Tribal Police, and is immediately drawn in a web of a complex double homicide case. I enjoy a good murder mystery and going along with the characters in solving the crime. I thought that this historical fiction crime novel was well written and quite the engaging read.

I’m looking forward to the third book!

This is a mystery set in 1979 in and around a Native American Reservation in New Mexico. It’s told in multiple points of view which makes the book move very quickly.

James Pinter is a private investigator that is also a consultant to the Navajo tribal police. His teenage daughter, Molly, is a big help to James in the research part of his business.

James is asked to find a boy, Adriel, who disappears with his father, George. George is wanted for the double murder of a judge and the judge’s wife outside the reservation. Adriel’s aunt, Kay, is frantic to find her nonverbal nephew.

This book gets into some controversial aspects of what was happening to Native American children on reservations during this time period. It’s got corruption at multiple levels which makes it hard for James to try to figure out the truth.

This is the second book in the series and I have read the first book, IN THE SILENCE OF DECAY. There are quite a few repeat characters and I really liked that.

I loved the first book in this series and this follow-up didn't disappoint. James Pinter and his daughter Molly are wonderful characters and it was a joy to get to know them a little better as they investigated another challenging case. Reading this book was like listening to a friend and all the recurring characters added to the conversation. The author's writing style is easy to move through and has a comfortable pace. If you like trying to figure out complicated puzzles with plenty of twists and turns along the way, I highly recommend this series. You'll be glad you did if you start with the first book, In The Silence Of Decay.

Thank you to the author and Suzy Approved Book Tours for the gifted copy and including me on this tour.

My first vacation book was a win!

No One Left- Lisa Boyle
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5

I really enjoy Lisa Boyle’s writing style- this story is fast paced and flows easily. There are quite a few carryover characters and it makes sense to read the first book,The Silence of Decay, first. Part murder mystery and part historical fiction, No One Left exposes the political corruption and injustice that happened to Native American families concerning minor children taken away from reservations. In the name of providing a “better life” children were adopted out to non Native Americans, that resulted in the passage of the ICWA, which was enacted in 1978 and upheld in the Supreme Court in 2023.

Synopsis -
The second book in the Pinter, PI series takes us back to the New Mexico Navajo reservation with James and his 14 yr old daughter, Molly, have made a new life. And when a judge, who is an advocate for enforcing the ICWA (Indian Child Welfare Act) and his wife are murdered, James is pulled in to help investigate. All signs point to George Morris as the suspected killer, since he has recently disappeared, taking his non verbal son, Adriel with him. But James doesn’t necessarily buy into that theory. And when an informant leads the investigation in another direction, James knows he must help uncover the truth and find the real killer, even if the killer is politically connected.

Thank you Lisa for the copy of No One Left. I’ll be waiting to see what James investigates next. And I’m excited to watch what mischief Private gets into with Molly ❤️

As I enjoyed reading the first in this series, I expected a the second to hold up the standard and it didnt disappoint. James Pinter along with his daughter and others from the first book, methodically solve a mystery surrounding Gorge and murders that appear to open and shut.

All the characters have solid backgrounds give the story line authenticity and allowing us to become attached to them. It is also interesting to find a little about the Navajo culture along the way. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

I am an ARC reader and this is my honest opinion. The second in this series, this book is excellent. Extremely well written and, as with book 1, The Silence of Decay, the author presents the reader with some examples of the struggles of Native Americans to overcome the lack of respect - the blatant disrespect from non native Americans that they encounter daily. In these books it is the Navajo Nation. This book focuses on the disregard of the Indian Child Welfare Act, that was passed to stop native children being taken from their people and placed with white families who believed they were giving them a better life, with no understanding of the ways of their people - and the agencies making a lot money from the adoptions.
James Pinter, the principal character, and his 14 year old daughter, Molly have built up a good relationship and she has become a good apprentice detective. Having lost his wife in book 1, George, an Indian man takes his non verbal stepson to a judge to try to adopt him officially. But someone murders the judge and his wife and George is the prime suspect. He goes on the run from the police - and those who want to take his son from him. James and his Navajo friends don't believe George is guilty but are desperate to bring the little boy home. I find this whole subject upsetting and as the author says in her acknowledgments, a lot of people have been guilty of abusing and trying to wipe out the Native tribes for nearly two centuries. The story of James and Molly and their investigations is interesting enough to keep me engaged from beginning to end and eager for the next story. It is possible to read this book without reading book 1, but it wouldn't be easy, because of the references to what happened relating to this one. I do recommended this series

Another excellent book from Lisa Boyle! I’ve read both her historical fiction and crime fiction, and each book is well-researched and has characters that draw you in and won’t let you go.

Right from the start, this is a suspenseful read. It starts with a double homicide of a judge and his wife, plus a missing child and his father. James Pinter, a private investigator and consultant to the Navajo tribal police, gets involved, but he knows this child and his father from a prior case. Things get messy, and the deeper Pinter delves into the case, the more it appears as if this may be a big set.

This is a twisty and tense mystery. The author also weaves in political corruption and some of the injustices that occur to Native American children and families on the reservations. (Note: This was set in 1979, so some laws have changed.)

You could read this as a standalone, but I recommend reading both books because James Pinter has fast become one of my favorite P.I.s.

A suspenseful and compelling murder mystery - I’m already excited for the next book.

I fell in love with this series with the first book and was anxiously awaiting the release of this second book. I knew "No One Left" was going to be very different than the first book since James's life had taken a huge turn. It was a bit different with James grounded, so to speak now and Molly his 14-year-old daughter as his assistant. I love how he is with Molly after their long absence; it's heartwarming to see him become the best dad he can in his own way. As an expert consultant to the Navajo Police he gets involved with the murder of a judge and his wife and the subsequent chase for the murderer, but the person he's first charge with looking for has disappeared with his beloved special needs son so timing is everything. James and group find too many inconsistencies and the real culprit may surprise them all. The book moved quickly keeping the intensity of the hunt ever present and the characters were well written and came of as realistic. I look forward to book three to see where James and now Molly go from here. Happy Reading!

George Morris is an innocent man, even though everything points to him being a double murderer. He’s also kidnapped his step son, Adriel. On the run, he’s desperate for someone to help, so calls James Pinter, now a Private Investigator and expert consultant with the Navajo Tribal Police.

The second book in the series, although it’s a standalone read, you really need to have read book 1 first, as it explains James’ background, his new relationship with his daughter Molly and his connections with the area and the people.

A well written book book, nicely paced, with an authentic feel, both with the murder investigation and the Navajo history, especially of the tribal children by numerous Government departments and do-gooders, who have no clue about the customs and traditions of the people. You can tell the author has done a lot of research on the history. Recommended.

Although this could probably be read as a standalone, I highly recommend you read In The Silence of Decay first to get a better understanding of the main characters.

While this is definitely a Murder Mystery that will keep you guessing as to the guilty party, it is also the story of the struggles of the Navajo Indians for true justice in the courts and the right to live by their beliefs, even on their reservations. Corruption is rife at the highest level, the "all mighty dollar" holding sway.

What is really sad is that to this day they are still having to fight to keep their children as there are States in the US who refuse to acknowledge the law they fought so hard to have passed.

Private Investigator James Pinter is now one of my favorite fictional characters. I like his style of investigation—straightforward and effective.

Pinter is investigating the murder of a judge and his wife. George Morris has been accused but is certainly innocent. But George has kidnapped his son Adriel and this creates many complications.

Adriel is a very likable likable character. Also likable, and the reason I gave this book 5 stars instead of the 4 I was considering, is Pinter's 14-year-old daughter Molly. I hope she continues her role in Pinter's investigations in future books.

The book's featuring of the Indian Child Welfare Act is a bonus as it should make more people aware of the severely needed act and how it has too often been ignored.

No One Left by Lisa Boyle is the second book in the Pinter P.I. series.

I really enjoyed the first book, In the Silence of Decay and was excited to read the follow up.

James Pinter has a powerful, complex case he has been asked to investigate.
He is trying to solve the mystery of the disappearance of his old friend George.

This case becomes dangerous for James as he delves into the mystery and his own life is at risk.

This is such a great mystery that takes place within the Native American community.

The story combines well researched history and mystery.

Highly recommend!

Looking forward to the next book in this fantastic series!

My thanks to the Author publisher's and Book Sirens for providing me with a Kindle version of this book to read and honestly review.
This is the second book in this excellent series and the quality does not diminish. Beautifully written and researched with superb characterisation throughout, in the case of both books, I am surprised the Author is not a member of the nation she writes about with such empathy and feeling. There are some references to the first book but this works as a standalone story, though my advice start at the beginning. Both are clever intelligent mysteries with plenty of surprises. As if P. I. Pinter and Molly were not enough we now have a stray pooch added to the team.
Absolute quality totally recommended.

The small recaps of the first book were perfectly placed. The events came back so easily once I started reading. I loved the continued father daughter dynamic in this sequel. James learned what an asset Molly can be and started to let her help more without all the push back. I loved the short chapters and multiple povs. It was nice to see a lot of the characters back in this one. The mystery had an emotional connection involving a character I loved in the first book. I liked how they investigation involved a problem the reservation’s face when it comes to their children. It was informative but gripping when the history and mystery combined. I hope this series continues.

I am a huge fan of Lisa Boyle’s books. I loved the Paddy series and although the Pinter P.I. series is completely different it is just as compelling. James and his daughter Molly make such a great team and I love that they added a doggie to their family. This book kept me guessing and I loved all the twists and turns. I wasn’t familiar with the Indian Child Welfare Act and really enjoyed learning more about it. I teared up when I read Lisa’s dedication to Lloyd, her beloved dog who has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. It is so hard to say goodbye and the dedication really touched my heart. I also appreciated the author’s note.

I loved revisiting the world of New Mexico in 1979 and spending time with P.I. James Pinter, his daughter Molly, and the rest of the crew. This book involved a really interesting case, and shed light on the history of Native American families in America, particularly children. I can tell Boyle did her research, and I feel like I learned a lot about how the ICWA (Indian Child Welfare Act) was put into place and the struggle to uphold it.

This was a twisty one, and it kept me guessing until the end! Another solid crime novel by Boyle!

This book was a great continuation of the first book, In the Silence of Decay. I appreciated the strategically placed recaps of the first book to refresh my memory. The chapters are short and I'm always a fan of multiple POVs. The setting is a reservation and shows the problems Native Americans face. Happily, many of the characters are back to carry on. There are new characters and honestly, too many names for me to keep straight. The father-daughter connection is heartwarming and I'm glad Molly was recognized for her contributions. It's a well-written mystery that I enjoyed.

I really enjoyed Lisa Boyle's first book in the Pinter P.I. series and loved this one just as much. It was great to be back with James and his daughter Molly as they investigate a new murder case. The story is written from multiple viewpoints so you get the feeling that you're getting all of the information in little bits and pieces, but not enough to solve the mystery. It's a fast-paced thrill ride that once started is impossible to put down until the very last page.

A heartbreaking yet powerful story that entwines history and even murder mystery. The horrors that persisted with Native American families and the corruption that happened, ripping them apart and adopting out their children! This was intense, fast paced, and absolutely beautiful. It flows so nice right from the first book! This is history that SHOULD be teached and not buried away.

I read the book with interest but was confused with so many characters who had acted with self interest. The theme of adoption of Indian children away from the reservation was worth pursuing.

No One Left by Lisa Boyle
Pinter PI #2

The Southwest is an area I have visited in the past in other books by authors writing about Indian/Native American issues and this book hit hard in more ways than one.

What I liked:
* Molly Pinter: James’s daughter, bright, intrepid, dealing with a new-to-her father, capable, loving, artistic, good friend, absorbs new information, curious, enjoys living on the reservation
*James Pinter: single father, ex-military, private investigator, bonding with his daughter through their working together, in a new relationship with Kay, assists police on and off the reservation
* The intricately plotted story
* References to the taking of indigenous children from their families and the impact it had for so many years…and wondering, after reading this book, if it continues today
* The chapter titles by name of character in the story
* Being immersed in the story and caring about the outcome
* The supporting characters: Sanchez, Barbara, Wayne, Kay, Tony, Isaac, Peter, Lark
* Police procedural aspects that eventually led to finding out who killed Judge Winters and his wife
* The glimpse into the culture of the Navajo Nation/Diné tribe and how they view family
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about the pain and suffering caused by corrupt people that put self and money before humanity…also the pain from “do-gooders” that end up harming more than helping

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Thank you to the author and Book Sirens for the ARC – This is my honest review.
