Merry cherry Christmas

Rate this book

Merry Cherry Christmas was a perfectly nice Christmas story from one of my favorite authors, Keira Andrews, but I couldn't shake the feeling that I should have liked it more.

The story had everything that I normally eat up like ice cream. We get a shy virgin MC, a holiday romance, a jock/nerd dynamic, and a sweet love story. However, I kept putting it down, and it took me over four days to finish (unheard of for a Keira Andrews book!).

I think I struggled with how incredibly insecure Jeremy acted all the time. I get feeling unattractive, but it was every. single. interaction. I think it just wore me out. The physical relationship also moved a little quickly for me (I prefer lots of sexual tension and buildup), but that's just personal preference.

I enjoyed the snowy Canadian setting and the maple syrup farm, the non-white MC, and Max's adorable family dynamics, but it never moved above just pleasant for me.

Though this wasn't a home-run for my tastes, I would recommend it to friends who want to read a light holiday romance, which is more important this year than ever. Ho, ho, ho, everyone!

I love me a shy, nerdy virgin, especially one as awkward and endearing as Jeremy. Jeremy is smart and EAGER, but his mouth gets in the way, namely his tendency to ramble.

Enter Max, who picks Jeremy off the ground. Literally. Jeremy slips on ice and falls on his butt; instead of laughing, Max walks Jeremy home, then offers to go with him to pick out a new pair of glasses (the original pair falling victim to Max's boot).

Jeremy and Max shouldn't get along. They seem all wrong for each other. But that's all surface. They actually do get on and want to get it on, but not under Max's parents' roof.

Max's family is an absolute joy. I loved the maple syrup farm setting and the cameo appearance by Nick and Hunter from Santa Daddy, another Keira Andrews holiday story I highly recommend.

Oh, and Max's friend Honey is a hoot. I am so glad that homophobia wasn't an issue with the college boys. Jeremy's weirdly distant parents are another story, however. I hated how they treated Jeremy.

I also loved jealous Max (Jeremy's ploy with his one-time date Levi worked wonders!). This is a new adult novel (Jeremy is 19 to Max's 22), but it's pretty damn sexy. Like I said, Jeremy is raring to go. He just needs someone to teach him, and Max is ALL about helping Jeremy learn.

I typically don't read YA/NA, but I really enjoyed this story. It's low angst and as sweet as a maple syrup snow pop. The epilogue helped seal the deal. Merry Cherry Christmas indeed!

Merry Cherry Christmas hit all of my M/M holiday reading buttons!

Pairing a sexually inexperienced, red-headed college freshmen, with a slightly older, out-and-proud football captain, this story was perfect for fans of sizzling first-times and top-notch nerd/jock dynamics.

I adored Jeremy (AKA Cherry) and Max, particularly loving their instant and easy connection, whether it involved their combustible sexual chemistry or the simple but meaningful way they bonded over life experiences, family, or their personal fears and dreams for the future.

I’ve always been a sucker for Christmas-themed stories such as this, where one character takes another home for the holidays, where they begin to fall in love while enjoying all the festivities of Christmas, surrounded by a wonderful full-cast of likeable and supportive family and friends. This story had all of that, with Max taking family-dejected Jeremy home with him for Christmas to keep him company and show him what a truly accepting and loving family holiday can be like.

I really liked how this one played out, with Jeremy and Max going from fast friends to friends-with-benefits, to realizing they both clearly wanted to try being everything to each other. They were sweet and definitely sexy, with very little in the way of angst or drama, and I smiled through every minute of their romance.

Merry Cherry Christmas is one of my favourite holiday reads from Keira Andrews’ thus far—which is saying something, because her stories are always one-clicks for me during the lead up to Christmas.

Oh boy.
I love love love Christmas romances, but damn this one draaaagged quite a bit.

First of all, it has incredibly strong YA vibes, but once they get down to it, their sex is the most graphic type of porn script, LOL.

description

Geeky nerd Jeremy aka Cherry is an 18 year old freshman who just came out to his parents and is still not over their rather cool (as in emotionless) reaction, fearing that they think about casting him out.

He's at college, away from home, depending on his parents financing his studies, he doesn't know anyone, and on top of his coming out, it's nearly Christmas and his parents spend the holidays in Hawaii with his younger brother, but without Jeremy.

Slipping on the street, he breaks his glasses and 22 year old student Max helps him back up on his feet.

Max is an athlete, popular, good-looking and has quite a number of sexual encounters under his belt.

However, despite their differences, the two instantly like each other and Max decides to take on a gay godfather kind of role, making sure that Jeremy loses his virginity as soon as possible.

When he arranges a date for Jeremy through a dating app, Max realizes that seeing Jeremy with another guy doesn't make him feel too great, so he invites Jeremy along to spend Christmas at his parents' maple syrup farm, so he can work on the project 'popping Cherry's cherry' himself.

The writing is great, as is a given with this author, but there were a few things I really didn't like about this book...

First of all, Jeremy is a damn annoying and insecure damsel in distress who tries to take back things he said and probably would rather never say anything at all so he doesn't say anything 'wrong'. Which I can relate to. Social anxiety is a thing I know first hand myself. Still, Jeremy shoved it in our faces a bit too hard for my taste.

Max is a typical romance hero guy who falls for his protege but constantly pushes him into another guy's arms which was totally weird.

And finally, their sex was really really odd. Like a porn script where the actor pretends to be a virgin with Jeremy begging Max to do things to him that a virgin shouldn't even know about.

description

I'm fine with most of those things in romance, but in a Christmas romance? Jesus, just give us a decorated tree, a mistletoe and a sweet kiss. This isn't an appropriate occasion to expand my porn vocabulary, LOL.

3.5 stars!

This ticks a lot of boxes for a classic romance:

- Cute ginger, nervous nerd vs.protective, responsible jock
- Virgin and lots of firsts
- A cozy hurt and comfort
- A really good dose of heat

The fact that it’s all wrapped up in a Christmas setting with plenty of Christmas cheer, snow, dogs and a family, just makes this as merry and wholesome as can be.

This does what it says on the tin.
And I enjoyed it for what it is – a very charming Christmas story.

Re-read November 2021

I'm just going to read all the Christmas books.

-------------------------------

It took me quite a while to get into this. At first I wasn't impressed at all. I even put it down and thought about quitting altogether. But I'm glad I stuck with it. Because suddenly I found myself enjoying the story more and more. I ended up liking it enough to give it a solid 4 stars.

At first I was a bit annoyed at the whole ‘let’s be friends with benefits so I can teach you some sexy moves’ trope. But once Max invites Jeremy to his house for Christmas it got so much better.

I really liked how sweet these guys were with each other. Jeremy was such a shy nerdy guy, I loved him. But I liked Max the most. He was sweet and patient and just the perfect boyfriend really.

I’m also very allergic to the whole ‘let’s not tell each other how we really feel’ thing, but I was so happy that it didn’t happen like that here. It was obvious there were feelings involved for both of them. Sure, there is a part where they agree they should maybe put things on pause for a while, but that didn’t really last that long.

So overall I really enjoyed this and would sure read it again next year.

I LOVE LOVE Kiera Andrews and think she is a phenomenal author. That being said I was disappointed in this book. The concept was cute but unfortunately I didn’t pan out they way I wanted. I hit the 20 % mark and was getting bored and started skimming ( which I what I did for the remanding portion of the book). Jeremy was sweet and cute but if he had said what was one his mind more it would have been better. The same goes with Max, he kept a lot of things from Jeremy and for what? Anyways this book is fluffy and cute and gets you ready for Christmas

Merry Cherry Christmas by Keira Andrews gives all the holiday feel-goods.

It has:
-Nerd/Jock, opposites attract
-A little hurt/comfort
-Experimenting
-Dual POVs
-Jealousy. I love when characters feel a little possessive ;)
-And just an overall positive and sweet vibe.

This was my first read of this holiday season, and what a great one it was.

Keira Andrews knows how to write a festive romance which has just enough spice to ensure the sweet never overpowers.

For this, she goes to college with a jock and a nerd who fulfil all the necessary trope requirements while still managing to bring fresh enjoyment to their romance.

It also happens over a relatively short time period, but it's completely missing any feeling of insta love.

Instead, it seems like Jeremy and Max have been friends forever, the attraction between them is palpable from the off and I loved the dynamics of their relationship.

Max is very much the nurturing type, he was captain of his team and he just wants to take care of Jeremy.

And the gorgeous redheaded anxiety full science nerd is an utterly delightful bundle of innocence.

I loved the interplay between them, I also loved that Max's sporty mates were all cool dudes and there was no angsting about him being gay.

Instead, the tensions came from Jeremy's parents being cool with him and from Max's fears over failing in his promise to his dead mum.

Max's family were also awesome and I very much loved the guest appearances from Nick and Hunter (Santa Daddy) at their Christmas tree farm.

As is often the case with Keira, there's a delicious frisson of light kink which prevents the book becoming overly Schmaltzy and I totally appreciated that!

I also appreciated the interracial relationship and that Max's family were originally from Goa. It added an extra element to his determination to live up to his mother's legacy and the experience she'd been given by her family in turn making sacrifices as immigrant settlers in Canada.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Well, this was sweet. And hot. And pretty darn cute to boot.
Loved Max right from the start! Cherry was shy and insecure but I can see why Max fell for him.
And set on a maple syrup farm during Christmas? Talk about the perfect setting!
Although it was a bit slow at times, I did enjoy them. And the epilogue was marvelous!

I really liked this one more than I thought I would as Christmas romances don't usually resonate for me. Jeremy (aka Cherry) is a freshman at Uni in Toronto, where he 'meets' Max, an uppperclassman and captain of the football team. Jeremy has never even been kissed, but came out to his parents, which didn't go over well at all.

Max takes Jeremy under his wing and invites him to his families maple syrup farm for Christmas so Jeremy won't be on his own over the holidays. Nicely done family holiday romance with a good supporting cast.

Good but compared to the Keira Andrews books I have read it wasn’t as great.

Jeremy and Max were cute together there was low angst and the perfect Christmas atmosphere soo that was a win! I just felt like it was missing that spark that the other books I read by KA had!

Overall if you want a holiday book, this is a cute one but nothing special!

This was super cute and Christmasy but it dragged a little in the middle. The beginning was funny and cute, when Max and Jeremy meet. Jeremy is awkward and dorky and Max is sexy and caring and confident. The first couple of sex scenes were incredibly hot.

And then they put the brakes on it and went back to just friends, and that lasted way too long for my liking. I was very excited when they got back to it, and the heat picked up again.

I also have to say I overdosed on Christmas cheer and Canadian cliches. Timbits, double doubles, maple farm, maple taffy (in December?), French Canadian family, tourtiere, pets-de-sœur, snowmobile, it was just too much. They even went ice skating but only one guy out of 5 knew how to skate. Get it right, everybody skates!

Cute overall.

It's Jeremy's first year at college and he's recently come out to his parents. It didn't go well, with his parents being far from accepting and barely speaking to him. He's resigned to the fact that he'll be spending his christmas alone on campus. Anxious and shy, he hasn't made any new friends at university.

After a meet-cute with Max, he's left sore from slipping on ice and with his glasses smashed when Max accidentally steps on them. Max helps Jeremy back to his dormroom, in a super charming scene.

Max decides to take Jeremy under his wing, and help him start dating. But Jeremy isn't comfortable trusting strangers, so Jeremy offers himself as practice.

From 'practice' kisses to spending christmas on Max's family's maple syrup farm, we get some adorable and steamy moments. It's clear that there's more than practice going on here.
__
Merry Cherry Christmas had immaculate cozy and festive vibes. I loved how awkward Jeremy could be, and how Max just wanted to protect him. With the way their first kiss went, there was no way they weren't going to fall in love with each other! It just took them a bit to realise it.

We also get a nice cameo from Hunter and Nick on their christmas tree farm, from Santa Daddy.

This is a feel-good holiday MM romance featuring a nervous nerd and protective jock, forced proximity, steamy first times, and of course a happy ending.

It was a joy to write Jeremy and Max's story and indulge in all my warm, fuzzy, snowy holiday feels. This year in particular, I need all the cozy, sexy romances I can get my grubby hands on, and I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I did writing it. <3

Cherry no more...

Jeremy is a shy, freshman college student who recently came out to his parents. The coming out didn't go as well as expected. This has caused him to keep to himself and not make many new friends at school. Then one trip on the ice changes everything.
Max a senior college student who is captain of the football team has a great group of friends and enjoys helping others. When he meets Max his helper side seems to burst right out.
The two become fast friends and Max decides to help Jeremy with understanding his sexuality and feeling more comfortable with knowing himself. While being helpful Max and Jeremy seem to blur the line of "friendship" in so many ways.
The story was sweet and adorable.

4.5 stars, rounded up. I looooooved this book! It was just what I was in the mood for!

If you are a fan of holiday-settings, adorable opposites attract with a senior football captain anda freshman geek, first times, some jealousy and boys being dumb boys, you should give this a try.

I absolutely adored Jeremy, he was just so sweet and young and adorkable! I also loved the setting for the majority of the story being at Max's home with his family. I wish we had gotten maybe a bit more into Jeremy's family and I also wish there had been a bit more for Jeremy and Max once they got back to school after the Christmas holiday. But overall, I really enjoyed this one and the chemistry between Jeremy and Max was excellent!

Audiobook Review

This story is like sitting next to a fire, sipping on something warm, and relaxing.

Having read this in ebook form, I was not surprised by anything but dang, did Kurt Graves do a fantastic job.

So here we have Cherry, a freshman in college that one day runs into Max, a senior football star who steps on his glasses, making this a meet-cute trope that I love

So Max decides that he will help Cherry make friends and not die a virgin.

Y'all know what happens, these two numbskulls fall in love (yes it's instalove) and everything works out.

When I first read this, I was not sure why going out with someone was featured so prominently but the second time was the charm. I get it now.

Cute...

I got cavities because this was so sweet and I'm totally ok with that. All fluff not very much angst. The only knock was the whole hookup with a stranger section. It made no sense.

In Toronto, Canada, we have a jock and a Freshman nerd. They meet when Jeremy, a freckled ginger falls on the ice, and big, muscled, brown skinned Max, captain of the football team, picks him up, and then steps on the poor kid's glasses.
Max, 22, is waiting for his LSAT results for Law school,

decides to help Jeremy, 19, get home,

because the world is a blur without his spectacles.

As Jeremy's new "fairy godfather," Max will be helping the "baby gay virgin" learn to make friend, and more.
Max jumps right in to Jeremy's aid, with a shopping trip, getting glasses, hanging out with the team, and eventually, ends up taking the sweet guy home for Christmas. Jeremy's family is stiff and distant, and Max's family is welcoming and fun.

But that first kiss, has them both reeling. The pull for each guy is extreme, and they decide to try out some fooling around, plus they find sizzling sexiness, too.

This is a sweet Christmas romance and it make some points about gayness, but the focus is our guys passions.
ENJOY !

Oh my goodness I loved everything about this book!!! It was just filled with all of my favorite things...nerdy virgin, sweet and kind jock, tender and caring first times, wonderful dialogue, a loving family, and a fabulous romance. I knew by the 3rd page that I was going to adore this book and I read it pretty much straight through (I stopped a few times just to prolong getting to the end because I didn't want it to be done).
Max and Jeremy were just so amazing together. From the moment they first met you just knew Max was a good guy. He was immediately taken by Jeremy--awkward rambling and all! What starts out as a friendship quickly evolves into more as they keep moving closer and closer to admitting they want to be together.
This book just made me feel good from beginning to end. There was low-angst, fantastic dialogue, super steamy times that were always filled with such sweetness, a warm holiday-family feel...it was just splendid! Made me feel warm and fuzzy all over--highly recommend!!!

MERRY CHERRY CHRISTMAS was everything I look for in a Christmas romance: winter-y setting, family hijinks, and a sexy and sweet romance! When college senior Max Pimenta helps out nerdy freshman Jeremy Rourke after he slips on ice the two form a friendship. As Max takes the newly out Jeremy under his wing, hanging out turns into friends with benefits. But when Max invites Jeremy home for Christmas, just as friends, the two find themselves struggling to keep their hands to themselves.

This was so much fun and just so stinking cute. I loved how open and welcoming Max was, he's definitely a protector and a genuinely nice person. He sees past Jeremy's anxious and nervous outer shell and I loved the way Max always encouraged and hyped up Jeremy. They were a really great couple together. As an extra bonus MERRY CHERRY CHRISTMAS included one of my favorite niche tropes: sex lessons! Jeremy is desperate to lose his virginity but his anxiety makes it hard for him to connect with people and feel safe enough to be vulnerable. But there's something about Max that allows Jeremy to relax and I loved how they progressed from friends to more.

While Jeremy's parents weren't as accepting of him coming out, Max's family is boisterous and welcoming and I was so glad to see Jeremy be included with open arms. The whole family was a lot of fun and I loved the setting of a maple farm (very unique)! While there is some drama over Jeremy's family and Max trying to figure out if he wants to go to law school, this is overall a very low-angst romance and that was just what I needed this week.

Freshman Jeremy, nicknamed “Cherry”, makes quite the impression when he wipes out on an icy night. Lucky for him, his would-be rescuer is football captain Max.

I love me a good meet cute. And this one was stellar. It was the perfect mix of funny and sweet. And what follows is even better - a friendship with some serious underlying sexual tension.

Max decides to take Jeremy under his wing and introduce him to Toronto’s gay scene. To help Cherry pop his cherry, so to speak.

Except Max gets a bit too protective. Also, Jeremy isn’t at all comfortable with strangers. So there’s really only one solution - Jeremy and Max will just have to have some fun together.

And do they ever - Max is a good teacher, and Jeremy’s an eager student. I really liked how gentle Max was, going at Jeremy’s pace and making sure he was always comfortable.

The exploration comes to an abrupt halt as school breaks for the holidays. With Jeremy’s own family being less-than-welcoming, Max invites him to tag along to the family maple syrup farm.

I absolutely loved Max’s kind and welcoming family! And their snowy farm was the perfect backdrop to Jeremy and Max’s budding romance.

Because while the two might have hit pause on shenanigans to respect Max’s parents’ house rules, that doesn’t stop them from slowly falling for each other. With each passing day on the farm, the two get to know one another more and become closer.

I really appreciated how they made space for each other. Jeremy feels comfortable being himself around Max, while Max unburdens some of his worries to Jeremy.

Their romance moves quickly, but it’s entirely believable. You can’t help but root for them!

Needless to say, the no-touching rule eventually goes out the window. And once the two admit to each other that they have feelings, it’s all hot kisses and sweet words.

This is a fairly low-drama read. The big issue is Jeremy’s unaccepting parents. It’s not a major stumbling block, but their treatment of Jeremy was still infuriating. Luckily Max’s family had more than enough love to spare!

My one complaint - I would have liked to see Jeremy acknowledge his anxiety and self-esteem issues. I totally felt for him, but I also wanted to see him work on loving himself more.

Regardless, this was an adorable Christmas MM romance. If you’re looking for a sweet and easy read with lots of holiday feels, give ‘Merry Cherry Christmas’ a try!

11/15/2021 - I opted for audio this time around. Kirt Graves was wonderful. He does a great job with the shy & bumbling Jeremy as well as the confident Max. It was just as fun and sexy as the last time. This will definitely be an annual listen. 💗

11/19/2020 - This is the perfect holiday read, adorkably sweet and sexy fun! Fairly low angst and absolutely hilarious. Keira Andrews is good at weaving a bit of humor through many of her stories – but I was seriously laughing out loud through much of this book. This was many of my favorite tropes – yet unique in a lot of ways. While Max is comfortably out & definitely sexually experienced, he’s also sensitive to Jeremy’s concerns and perspective.

I loved Max’s family, especially his relationship with his sister Meg. Fans of Andrew’s Santa Daddy will be treated to a cameo by Nick & Hunter who live in the neighboring farm. It’s not necessary to have read it to enjoy this, but if you like to read chronologically, you’ll want to start there.

This really is low angst with most of the drama coming from Max grappling with his after-graduation plans and Jeremy navigating a less than supportive family. While set in a very short amount of time (less than 3 weeks, I think) – Max & Jeremy do spend a lot of time getting to know each other outside the bedroom, which really solidifies their HEA. Andrews also gives us a lovely epilogue.

One of my favorite trope is a nerd and a jock. A sweet jock, and I'm sold!
Alone at Christmas made Jeremy wonder if his parents really accepted him after coming out. But Max, a jock who's become friends after helping him became his 'eyes' after crushing Jeremy's glasses, didn't want to leave him in campus.
Attracted to each other, and 'experimenting, because, hey, a virgin! Both didn't want to rush things, so they came to have a holiday in Max's house and family, as 'friends'.
And how stressful it was while they wanted to hookup and making out, but house rules made them paused.
But rules made to be broken, right? This is an adorable story, with a low angst and family gathering! What's not to love?
