Revenant One person’s utopia is another’s dystopia, and discontent never dies.
Ten years after the Arrival, the oceans teem with life; the air is clear, and the land is lush. Children of Earth, in all their forms, are free to live and grow. Music, the Arts, Science, and fascinating hybrids of all three flourish. Disease and hunger are part of the past. Humans work in harmony with the Ceph and the other beings of the Civilization to find their niche in a universe far greater than they thought possible.
What lies beneath the surface of Earth’s idyll?
A serpent lurks in the garden. Seemingly all-powerful, the Ceph and heir Ansible allies are not gods. Their past mistakes and long-forgotten arrogance created an enemy whose thirst for vengeance they can only slake with death.
If anyone can be made a traitor, who can be trusted?
Stella, the Captain of the Money Shot, her crew, and Ansibles Pearl & Eldest lead humans and Ceph of the Alliance against beings who would inflict a slavery on Earth and the rest of the galaxy that makes slaughter seem merciful. Unexpected allies join the existential battle, while terror from within humanity threatens yet another path to doom.
Will life and freedom win over conquest and death?
Five Stars Revenant is a great story! Big and complex, and doesn't shy away from smashing the universe you created, so it gripped me from when the fighting really started as there was a feeling of genuine peril to the characters. Well done! Peter Lyon - Weta Workshop, Swordsmith to Lord of the Rings
Book 4 by Matthew Poehler shows the powerful Ceph Alliance continuing to make changes to Earth. Most humans welcome the health improvements and eco-friendly energy. Some protest the changes as being against normal human development, despite the fact that humans were destroying their planet. The Sympan, an ancient implacable Ceph enemy, plots a takeover. There are clever, creative, interwoven plotlines. The complex whale songs are “like a dream given form”, a god-like form capable of fighting like a spaceship. I especially liked the teen humans, Chad who has a chance at redemption, and Anna, who is mature beyond her years. I also enjoyed the story of Tempest, an early Ceph. This is a well written, well edited continuation of the series. Five stars!
I thought this was a great wrap up for this series, though I still want more. The basic premise of the series is that cephalopods are galaxy ranging aliens that tried to uplift life on Earth but were derailed by the asteroid that killed the Dinos. Fast forward to now and they’re back to try to continue the experiment.
I forgot to review this when I finished. Oops! Anyway, get it if you love to see an imagination gone wild with some tie ins to the “real world.”
Matthews Poehler's fourth installment in his, Ceph series, Revenant, is nothing short of spectacular. In this thrilling sequel, Poehler takes us on an epic intergalactic journey filled with intense battles and heart-pumping action, all while the fate of Earth hangs in the balance. From start to finish, I was completely hooked and couldn't put the book down.
But what really sets this novel apart is the powerful message it conveys about the importance of family and teamwork. Poehler deftly weaves together a heartwarming story that shows how, when faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges, a strong bond between family members can make all the difference in the world.
And let's not forget about Poehler's exceptional writing skills - he truly is a master of his craft. With a keen eye for detail and a captivating writing style, he manages to keep the main story in focus while still delivering a rich and immersive reading experience. Overall, this latest addition to the Revenant series is a true testament to Poehler's talent and is sure to leave readers eagerly anticipating the next installment.
