Life gave her shadows and she’ll make sure her past looks damn good in them.
Rylee’s camera lens catches more than just dead bodies, it’s caught the eye of a masked artist. She hides behind the chaos of her job as a crime scene photographer where the dead can’t judge her demons.
She escaped her old life thanks to a boy that still haunts her dreams. The one that got left behind. Her entire life has been one cruel circumstance after another.
Somehow everyone who crosses her path ends up dead, and she doubts its just karma at play. In the shadows there’s always someone. And she can’t stop believing it’s him. The one who saved her from a life of heartache.
Now, Rylee has been commissioned to photograph hauntingly familiar artwork. As she looks head-on into the shadows of her own history, she wonders if just maybe, the boy who once saved her has found her again.

An automatic DNF for me is when the FMC and her girl friend go out to a bar, club, drinking, etc. and the FMC leaves her friend without checking in with her first. Just fucks off with a dude and gives zero thought to her friend.
Rylee meets Cas and his friends, X and Z on the worst night of her life. They saved her and now years later she's back, trying to figure out why they pushed her away.
Cas had been keeping tabs on Rylee for years, partially to keep her safe but mostly because he just can't let her go completely.
The story is a little darker than I prefer but their story was pretty swoon worthy. I liked Cas even though he's not always a good man.
I would consider this a romantic thriller. A new to me author and I really enjoyed the book. The characters were tough but had a lot of redeeming qualities.

A new Author's work for me to explore and I was totally enthralled by her dark, delicious and devilishly take on a dark reverse romance. Loved the characters and how they captured my interest from the very beginning, just as they did with lead female, Rylee in the story. I thought it was a really exciting read filled nicely with action, drama, sexual tensions and possessive alphas to protect their interest. Looking forward to more from this Author in the future.

First and foremost, yes!! It's not "dark dark" but there's 🔪 and light "following". I loved Cas. Dark, broody, literally touch her and 💀. The perfect man that's impossible to love or hate. Rylee is a great character. She's been through so much and she's just trying to figure things out. BUT I feel like she could, or should, have realized things before they were spelled out. All in all, really loved it! It got me out of my reading slump and I cannot wait to read more by Chelle Wolfe!
Rylee had made something of her life escaping the h*ll of her childhood, with reminders onf the boy who helped Cas, now shes working as a crime scene photographer, but when Cas comes back into her life, things take a steamy dark and twisted turn. well written the story has you hooked from the start, with dark themes,d esires action, violence and more.

I very much enjoyed this book! Readers should pay attention to the book blurb that it's a dark romance centered around characters who are part of a gang. So, expect gang violence. Also, the FMC (Rylee) is a professional photographer of crime scenes so there is some description of that world as well.
Saying all that, as a reader of dark romances, this was relatively light. It was not gratuitous in any way but rather a representation of the world our author is writing in.
Caspian, our MMC, is the leader of one of the local gangs, who along with his two best friends Z and X, carry the weight of the club on their shoulders. All 4 characters met as young adults, when Rylee came to live with Dad. Dad was true scum of the earth. Cas, who lived next door, saw what was going on and made it possible for Rylee to get out of town. He also fell hard for her and kept up on her well-being. Kept up to the point of stalking and making sure negative things and male attention said away.
He is very surprised and angry when she returns to the town, he fought so hard to get her out of, while also pleased to have her physically close. All bets are soon off, and Cas sets out to claim Rylee who has cared about him all along.
The book also has a wonderful thriller/suspense component that really adds layers to a great read. I also loved the ingenious way Cas has found to get read of damaging evidence - Kudo's for originality Ms. Wolfe!
I loved the second-tier characters and can't wait for their stories. Cali made me laugh out loud and Sebastion's (X) insta love on her was sweet.
And let me say, there is no absence of lusty steam here! The passion between Rylee and Cas is undoubtable and bearing witness, so to speak, to the physical stuff? Well, dang!
I can't wait for more from this author, and I strongly recommend this book!

It's not the best, but not bad at all. There needed to be some editing to make some of the sentences make sense, fill in missing words, punctuations, and stuff like that. The storyline was good. The author kept it pretty mysterious until the very end.
The main characters were actually likable. Cas and Reiley had their flaws, but their chemistry and behaviors were at least believable. Both were lost souls that needed eachother, as one was darkness and one was light.
I enjoyed the side characters, Zeid and X, and Cali. I definitely want to see more of them in the coming installments.
well mother trucking duck that was super good i really loved the characters and the story flow i could not get enough and stayed up way too late reading as i needed to see what was going to happen next! and im excited for more from Chelle this was wicked awesome!
3.5 Audio. Probably would have given this a 4 had I read the physical book. This was narrated by virtual voice that kept saying pie instead of P.I. which drove me bananas. It was said so much to make it an issue
