It was a bit out of my usual book genre, but it’s good to stretch yourself sometimes. 🙂

Did I suspect who the killer was? Yes. Did it get a little slow in the middle? Yes. Did I still enjoy reading Shadows of Gray? Yes!

It got a little slow toward the middle of the book, and there was (what felt like) a giant info-dump disguised as a conversation between two characters. But other than that, the book felt well-paced and well-written. Christie is sweet, and Jed is sincere. I think you can see them grow throughout their murder investigation. And although they grow in feelings toward each other through the book, they keep their relationship chaste, which I appreciated. 🙂

The second book is Origins of Gray, which will prove interesting as it provides more of Jed’s backstory!

I appreciate Jodi providing me with a free copy of her book. It was fun to read.

Content warning: multiple uses of the f-word, some sexual references/feelings.

The author pulled me in early on and kept my interest all the way through. Terrific placement of hints that keep the reader guessing. The MMC and MFC have chemistry, allowing for some angst while solidly keeping the book about solving murders and not falling into a romance story.

This mystery with social commentary has potential, though right now it feels unfinished. The pages read flat and grey without the vivid words or personalities you find in high quality books, which is why I recommend more polishing and development.

This was the first book by the author. I was intrigued by the reference to Castle which I really love.
I can see the similarity in the way the story develops but it did not influence my feelings on this book, neither in a good or a bad way.
The writing style is very easy to follow, the characters develops throughout the story and details of their past are revealed to help make the connections. The book kept me interested. There were relationships that I wanted to explore more and others that developed relatively fast but even then I was and still am curious to see where these would lead. You can definitely enjoy this as a stand alone or continue to follow the two main characters in their next or past adventures.
I received a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
