Cora Roberts #4

Reapers of the Dark

Rate this book
Cora Roberts—keeper of a soul-sucking alter ego, mate to the biggest shifter around, and representative of her kind in a super secret organization led by her Uncle Lucifer.

Cora and Hudson are in the middle of the mating dance, meaning he’s overbearing, obsessed, and a little unhinged. The heat is on from both of their families to tie the knot officially. However, when White Castle is suddenly overrun with an army of ghosts, Cora and the gang get sucked into another supernatural disaster. At the center of the chaos? Eloise Roberts. But to wield that kind of power, she’d need more than demons, shifters, or vampires—she’d need a deity.

As Cora battles her own dark alter ego, Hudson is hiding a secret, one that will change everything Cora believes about their bond.

With all these rival forces converging, Cora might be forgiven for missing the biggest threat she’s ever known.

So when faced with the choice between her mate or the world, which will she choose?

About the author

Adaline Winters

24 books696 followers
Adaline Winters writes heroines who bite back and the alpha males who fall to their knees because of it. Known for weaving sizzling tension with deadly twists, she delights in leading readers through stories full of betrayal, desire, and the kind of cliffhangers that leave you cursing her name—and still begging for more. If there’s one promise she makes, it’s this: her heroines will never go quietly, and her heroes will never come out unscathed.

She lives in England’s Lake District, where the scenery is dramatic, the weather is stubbornly grey, and the dog in her house is somehow even more chaotic than her characters. Her husband and daughter are used to conversations being interrupted by sudden mutterings about plot twists or declarations like, “What if I just kill him instead?”

When she’s not plotting new ways to make her readers scream (and swoon), Adaline is probably crocheting blankets that never turn out quite square, or losing precious writing time to her daily Wordle obsession. She claims it’s brain training for crafting fiendish plot twists—but in truth, she just likes to win.

Romance novels are her first love, especially those where strong, sharp-tongued heroines drive alpha males to the brink of madness. That’s the energy she channels into every book she writes: sharp, sexy, a little ruthless, and completely addictive.
If you like your stories dangerous, your tension sizzling, and your heroes utterly undone by the women who refuse to bow… welcome to her worlds.

Oh no no no............. that ending was flaming jaw droppingly good!!!! It completely floored me!!

Every book in this series draws me in and I find that when I start one I can't put it down especially this book. Brilliant characters, cracking plot twists and plenty of laughs too are the reasons I'm loving this series so much. I can't tell you how much I'm dying to get my hands on the next book after that ending. Bring on book 5.

Oh wow I did not see that twist of an ending .
Great 4th book in the series, they always leave me wanting more. I can not even see where this story will go next.
Great character development an introduction of new characters.
I love this series each an every book has action an twists, wit and humour, along with unbreakable bonds. After that ending who knows what will happen to the bonds now.

Was so excited about this 4th book, re-read the first 3. This is maybe a 2.5 rounded down for a horrible cliffhanger wtaf. This read like a messy rambling part 1 of 2 last book and it just got to a point and ended. The conflict at the end is ridiculously manufactured, her reaction is immature and there’s been no hint of what else she might be to even guess and we have to wait a year now for the next book are you kidding me?? Super super disappointed in this book. The series was so strong in the first 3 books. No clear story arc or resolution in this one. Boo.

Epic

I didn’t think this series could get any better and then BOOM she does it again. Get ready for swoonworthy romance, twists and turns, secrets and betrayals. If you haven’t started yet, what are you waiting for?

Counting down for the next one already!

I have been d¥1ng for this book since the release of Serpents of the Dawn and it didn’t disappoint. I need the next book with a passion. 4 books and I’m still completely hooked on Cora’s story, needing her and her family to get the happily ever afters that they all deserve. It was a struggle to put this book down, I absolutely devoured it. With the perfect amount of intrigue, humour, and action as well as a HOT @f book boyfriend, what’s not to love?
Cora is as awesome as the previous books, I can’t wait to see how she navigates the new truths, deceptions, and events to come. I loved Hudson before but it’s nothing compared to this book. I love how the author makes these characters so real, dimensional, and relatable in a way, especially in their relationship. I loved getting to see all the g@ng back together and being back in this world, it’s soothing and comforting. Loved it and cannot wait for the next book!

I can't believe it's here! I've been waiting anxiously for the next installment, and now I'm left needing more!

Cora and Husdon are back, along with the motley crew of vampires, ghosts, sheriffs, dangerous Daves, evil grandmothers, scheming shifters, and larger than life family members.

Just wait until you meet her grandfather...

This book is more centered toward relationships—Cora's and Hudson's, Cora's and her family, and Cora with herself. Expect some shocking revelations!

And don't forget shenanigans. There are always shenanigans. I can't wait for book 5!

And, if you've read any of Adaline's books (and if you haven't, get started!) you know what to expect at the end. That's right. A great, big, lovely...

What was that ending?! I am still reeling! The secrets?! The betrayals?! Just when I thought everyone was happy, I'm proven wrong lol. Now I don't know what's going to happen 😱. I need book 5 stat! Lol

Reapers of the Dark is book 4 and another fantastic installment in the Cora Roberts Series! This book starts where Serpents of Dawn ended, continuing Cora's battle for White Castle against her grandmother, who's always one step ahead.

I loved the motley crew with their found family dynamic and banter. The soul swapping was such a fun surprise element. 😂 Cora is still a brilliant and fierce FMC with her unique magic. Hudson is as swoonworthy as ever (the magical moment by the waterfall definitely needs to be captured in some art 🥰). The chemistry and spice between Cora and Hudson is 🔥 but now I'm stuck wondering what's next! Darn those alpha males for assuming they know what's best! Lol.

“Cora Roberts, you already own my heart, my body, my soul. I would scorch the earth to protect you and walk through the fires of Hell to be at your side.”

Mind the cliffy...

I don't mind a good cliffhanger, but the time between releases means I don't remember anything that happened previously when a new book comes out. Now, I understand that the rise in independent publishing means that we expect a more rapid turnaround than traditional publishing, however, when all of your peers are releasing books at a much more regular pace, it makes it difficult for readers to want to invest time in your series when it flows like molasses. I've liked what I've read so far, but when there are so many great options to choose from, I'm not convinced this series is worth the time sink. Will I read the next book? Maybe. Will I be anxiously awaiting it? Absolutely not.

We’re back in White Castle and things are just as weird and exciting as ever! This is the fourth book in the Cora Roberts series, and while I thought this book was a bit slower than the others, I’m still so excited with how the story is progressing!

My favourite thing about this series though is all the witty banter throughout! Each of the characters in this book are so different from one another, but I love how this group is more like family than friends. We’re still learning more and more about each character, including Cora! This series really keeps you on your toes, never knowing what’s to come!

The way this book ended left me shook! I honestly don’t know where this series will go from here, but I’m ready for whatever’s next! 🙌

Great story but...

Not okay how stalking and abuse is portrayed as romantic. The story would be amazing otherwise but I cant imagine that the author has ever been in danger from a psycho man or she wouldnt tell cute romantic stories about men putting their hands on womens throats or stalking or a hundred other way effed up things her male characters do that she portrays as love or protection but is actually abuse, control, and hugely dangerous behavior. Im sure my friend who was murdered by her 'mate' - who was a man that behaved like Hudson and Ezra, would agree with me. If she still could.

Fab series!!!!!!!

I have gorged myself on all four books in just over a week!

I didn't have time to review them, I wanted MORE!

I have just yelled at my Kindle for stopping where it did.

Adaline, you wicked woman!!

These books revolve around Cora Roberts a water elemental, but so much more!

She's fighting to keep the people she loves and the world, out of her grandmothers nasty twisted hands.

She's found love? Family and friends.

Her dad is the Angel of Death, her uncle is Lucifer, which means grandad is God 😮😮😮😮😮

Fantastic writing, brilliant characters, leaving me wanting more.

Oh, and I'd like Bella, please and thank you. 😁😁😁

Oh my! Fast-paced action with love and humour on the side.
I really don't know what to say about this book, apart from 'Oh my!' Adaline has definitely done it again. The way that Adaline writes is amazing; so descriptive, but yet not too overwhelming; a bit of spice to keep you going and fuel the imagination; humour and giggles along the way; as well as having an incredibly, imaginative, developing whilst also encapsulating storyline to boot. I did not forsee where this storyline would go and was left reeling at the end, completely lost for words, desperately wanting the next instalment.

Get ready for a wild ride! The gang is back in book 4 and there is so much excitement. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. These characters are so incredibly lovable, and there is such a juxtaposition of such powerful figures and their humanness. I laughed hard throughout the story- especially the freaky Friday/bathroom incident. Be prepared that nothing is as it seems, and when you finish, you will be anxiously waiting for me. I am cheering for Cora and Hudson’s rocky relationship, even as pooh is just hitting the fan….10 stars for this book, can’t wait for more.

I am speechless. Like, totally and honestly mind blown with that ending. It's a total WTF and my brain just does not compute. A proper computer says no. Like total rip your heart out and smush it up. Saying that, This book is another winner. Cora and her family- blood and chosen- go from strength to strength throughout and the piece of advice she was given by a certain important someone makes perfect sense now, but our girl needs to remember that before shizzle gets real bad. I can't wait for the next in the series! Bloody fabulous!

This is a gut-punch of a story! Each chapter brings a new reveal, a new battle, a new emotion. Wow, what a book. Book 4 comes out swinging! Plan your day around this one, trust me, you won’t want to put it down once you start reading. I don’t want to give anything away, as everyone should get to experience this roller coaster of emotions it unfolds BUT make sure you are sitting somewhere safe without breakable items near you for that cliffhanger!!!

OMG! I binged the first three books and have been desperately waiting for the next instalment! It didn't disappoint. I was lucky enough to have an ARC and just devoured it. There is ongoing world building and relationship building. It answered questions that were left hanging from the third book. But what an ending! There is still so much more to come and I've been left desperately waiting for another book. I'm not sure how I'm going to cope with the wait!

I throughly enjoyed reading this book. I was hooked from the very beginning and could not put it down. These characters especially Cora will make you feel as though you know them and no matter what you want to see them overcome whatever may be in their way. This book will not disappoint you. It will keep you interested and reading till the end. This book needs to be on your TBR list.
You will not be sorry that you read it.

Eeeeek how amazing is this book!! I mean the whole series is awesome but I felt like this book gave us so much more!!! It was jam packed with so much goodness, and sooo many characters to follow, I love them all.
That ending though has done me…. I mean you can’t leave us all hanging like that! I honestly did not see that coming!
Adaline smashes it every time 🫶

Adaline has done it again with another amazing read. I just love going back to Cora and Husdon and their crazy families - it’s never straight forward for these guys and it’s full of shenanigans. This book has it all from hot moments, to secrets, betrayal and so many twists and turns that you don’t see coming. The ending is a shocker to me and it left me speechless. I’m just dying to find out what was going to happen next .

Wowsers

I feel like I've been waiting a lifetime to continue Cora's story but my gosh ir did not disappoint.

I truly enjoyed the book from start to finish, though at times I do admit it felt that it was slow. Or others jumped randomly from one thing to another. But, this I just took as Cora's randomness.

The ending though, it was just everything, though I'm still not 100% sure but the cliffhanger has me reeling and I need more ASAP!

Frustrating ending

The story is fun, I like the characters, I enjoy the world. What I don't enjoy is feeling like I only got part of a book. Nothing gets resolved, there didn't feel like there was any pay off. Which means that by the time the next book comes I'll have lost momentum and have to summon it back up.
I'd love to give it more stars but the other stars are (hopefully) hiding in the next book along with the rest of the story threads.

good

I like Cora and the rest of her circle of friends in this book. it has been a while since I read the last book in the series so I’m having a little difficulty remembering what the heck is going on. I think I’m going to have to read previous books in the series just to kind of help catch up. I like the fact that Cora is learning more about herself and some of her other family members in this book. The thing I didn’t like about this book was the open end.

Ok, these books just keep getting better and better.

I am OBSESSED with Cora. The humour in these books is top tier. I genuinely cannot read in public as I just laugh so hard.

Things are escalating in White Castle and it's all going to come to an epic conclusion soon!

That ending though!! I am sooo mad! Whyyyyyy. The betrayal!!! Cora is going to lose her sh!zz.

I have a bone to pick with the author about this book.

What the Hell????

Being completely floored me and now I have a massive hangover while waiting for the next book.

Pure evil genius the author is.

Other than that “complaint “ I loved the story and the progression of the saga.

Oh my heart just burst for everyone.

Wow I just cannot believe it was this good.
I am sad about Hudson but I’m like 99% sure they will be fine in the next book. Well that’s what I keep telling myself anyway.
I devoured this book and now I’m just sat here waiting for the next one.
I’m so excited to see what happens to Cora in the final book.
