The wife of the Hollywood genius shares an intimate portrait of the great director through his favorite medium--photographs--offering more than two hundred images from his first film through his posthumously completed project, A.I.. 15,000 first printing.
For a man who was a very private individual during his lifetime, this book owes a lot of gratitude to his widow Christiane for it's publication, the title of "A life in pictures" says it all really, this is exactly that. Feels like going through a personal photo album, capturing Kubrick in his day job, that being making movie masterpieces. 1953-1999 only thirteen films made, quite astonishing!, but everyone of them he was completely dedicated to, methodically and painstaking, any time scale on completion meant nothing to him until his vision of perfection was realised, taking years if need be, putting many actors through vigorous multi takes (some scenes from "The Shining" over 100!). Going by this collection of photos it was all in his eyes, eyes of total control over his art form, rarely cracking a smile. The greatest director of all time? for me there is no doubt. It still saddens me he never got to make "Napoleon", which was his one big dream.
A nice tribute to Kubrick from his wife Christiane. Some great photos in here too. Spielbergs intro I could take or leave. If you want to hear his thoughts on Kubrick just watch the documentary tie-in “Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures”. This intro felt unneeded.
Intelligenza Artificiale.
