Sometimes you meet the right person at the wrong time.
And sometimes fate gives you another chance to get it right.
Christopher "Chubz" McCall, Jr. knows one he loves Kimberly Hunt. He also knows that she isn't in the place to return that love. At least she wasn't six months ago. He's back in town now and maybe more than her marital status has changed

So, Kimberly and Christopher. Lets talk about them. I was really excited for this book. Y’all know I love all things Kingstown and the title alone had me at go. The character’s names were giving Lil Kim and Biggie so, I immediately pressed pause on my current read to jump all over Chubz and Kim. Unfortunately, that’s where my excitement ended.
Kim is an unhappily married woman. Her husband has been brazenly unfaithful for most of their marriage but, she stays and endures the embarrassment for their kids. When Christopher and Kim meet, he knows he’s met the woman he’s meant to settle down and spend forever with. Unfortunately for him, she’s already somebody’s wife but, that doesn’t stop the months long affair they embark on. When Chris expresses his need for more and Kim refuse to give it to him, he abruptly ends their affair and moves on. Six months later, Kim is finally divorced but, she still doesn’t know if there’s a permanent place in her life for Christopher.
I really wanted to love this book but, Chubz and Kim just didn’t do it for me. If I’m keeping it a buck, I thought their story was a little boring. I just didn’t get the intense attraction and chemistry the author was trying to portray between these characters. I also don’t think she did a very good job describing Christopher as a plus size character. Hell, even the guy on the cover isn’t plus size. The only reference to his body was when Kim said he had a soft round belly. That doesn’t necessarily make you plus size. Anyone can have a round belly. Other than the nickname Chubz, Christopher was not giving heavy set at all. Overall, Chubz and Kim missed the mark for me. Honestly, I don’t understand what he and Kim added to this already established circle of friends. They really were an unnecessary addition to the Kingstown crew.
There are times in life where you meet the right person at the wrong time and this was the case for Chubz and Kimmie. These two met during a time where they weren’t sure if a HEA was even possible. He was looking for his forever love while she was looking for an escape from her fkd up reality. Chubz fell first, fast and hard and after months of Kim not being able to match his energy, he made the tough but necessary decision to cut ties and it was not a pretty cut.
Fast forwarding 6 months later, their paths cross again and one would assume that it’s now the right place and right time. Kim is in a better place mentally physically and emotionally but after the way things ended before, neither of them is sure that taking the risk again is worth the potential heartbreak.
This story fell flat for me in several areas. First the MMC was described as a plus sized character. When I read this in the synopsis, this detail alone had me geeked because I LOVE a fluffy n*gga. Unfortunately there was NOTHING in the story that led me to believe I was reading about a plus sized character. Nothing gave me American Idol Reuben Studdard. I got no double chin references, no belly references, not even neck rolls 😩
Kim’s character was boooooring 😴 and did not match the intensity of Chubz. The sub characters peaked my interest more than she did! And while the author made it clear that this wasn’t an erotica, the story was giving black pepper spice. Chubz gave simp one minute and BDE the next… not possible but somehow possible in this story. The storyline wasn’t original and made me question its purpose to begin with. It didn’t need to be connected to the other books because it was like forcing a circle peg into a square hole. I’m not sure of the intent with this one. It was an ok read but definitely not a necessary one.
This one fell short for me. I couldn’t quite figure out why we needed this addition to the series. Chubz & Kim met and formed a relationship during a tumultuous time in her marriage. Refusing to play second fiddle, Chubz knows his worth and walks away. Six months later he returns to find Kim’s newly divorced. Thinking that the timing is right this time, Chubz shoots his second shot. Kim’s character was dull and Chubz pretty much carried this story on his back. At the beginning of the book the author notes that this story is not erotica, however there was no heat in this at all, maybe a half of seggs scene. Also, there were cameos from other characters in this King’s Town series and they couldn’t even help propel this story into something more. Lastly, Chubz’s character was described in the synopsis as a plus sized MMC but we only got a handful of descriptive features throughout the story. I couldn’t tell if he was plus sized or not. Don’t advertise in the synopsis if you’re not going to deliver in the story.
3⭐️ "Even if she didn't want me back, there wasn't another battle that Kimberly Hunt would have to fight alone."
I think I needed a little more time with Kim and Chubz. I didn't connect with their characters and it was hard to develop a relationship with them as they had a HISTORY before this story even started. A history I wish we could have witnessed more of. I do believe they loved each other and that's beautiful.
Also, I love an unhinged man who seeks revenge for the ones he loves. Chubz + the broken Heinken bottle = my favorite part of the story.
I loved this story!!! From the first chapter I was hooked. Kim and Chubz might just be my favorite couple in this series. It was refreshing to see the man do what Chubz did bc he needed time, especially a man like him.
This man loved Kim, okay! He wasn’t playing about that woman.
Kim was a wonderful character also. I loved her growth. I also loved seeing how Webb was over her. Let’s just say he put the paws on someone like any man who is like a brother should when that woman has been harmed.
I’m a simple lady. I see Shon, I run to the nearest store with my card out. I’ve been waiting on these cutie pies since I read about them on the Google Drive (if you don’t know about it, you’re missing out. Just check her website and thank me later). This book was definitely a different direction than I’ve seen but it was beautifully done as always. I ate up every last page in 2 hours and I want more 😭
Omg this man is on #swoonworthy levels. Checklist ready (putting on my glasses) 👩🏾🏫:
✅️ he's thick & tall with inky dark skin. (🩲 just combusted) ✅️ after the 🩲 have combusted you realize he has yellow diamond gold grills (who knew this could be 🥵) #K!nkunlocked ✅️ he fell first and hard ✅️ he is patient and wanting to go from side dude to main dude ✅️ he knows how to work his fingers and knows when to tell a woman to "open", "suck", or "lick"....⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ my dude 👏🏾 👌🏾
Even though short, the novella was still complete.
It was kinda rocky at first but the characters and writing got into a groove as the story continued and I really felt for both of them. Glad Kim was able to leave and do what she needed to do for herself and not just to get into another relationship, glad too that Chris got a bit of healing or figuring out of his own emotions in those 6months too. Glad they got to find one another again & get the closure they both needed
But why was Midnight looking disheveled? What’s that about???
This one pulls all the feels out of you. This relationship here is pure reality. Kim has children, in a horrible marriage and is trying to figure her life out Chubz is younger and wants what he wants. Realizing she’s not ready he backs away ultimately forcing her hand. Time passes and they see each other again. She’s now single and he’s still head over heels for her. I loved this book relationship so much. I was rooting for them the whole time .
I give this book five stars. This was a really cute second chance novella 😊 Once again, I could read a full length novel on this couple! I should probably read her actual novels then 😅 Shon you have a way with words and I’m addicted! You have a new fan so gone head and restock your stuff on your website 😂
Second chance romance stories are always good. Sometimes you have to take a break and try again. Rekindling the relationship between Kim and Chubz seemed fine. I enjoyed the story until the closure scene with the beer bottle. I felt that bit was unnecessarily cruel and unrealistic.
I get the that King’s Town men are extremely possessive but the lengths they all went to seems a bit much.
THIS WAS GIVING BIGGIE/NOTORIOUS B.I.G. & LIL KIM VIIBES, THUS I DON'T KNOW HOW I FELT ABOUT IT SINCE I WASN'T A FAN OF EITHER. THIS WAS A SHORT READ THOUGH SO SOMEONE SOMEWHERE FOUND IT INTERESTING I GUESS.
I LOVE A SECOND CHANCE LOVE STORY 🥰. BRANDON’S BIH AZZ DESERVED WHAT HE GOT AND SO MUCH MORE🤷🏽♀️ GLAD KIM AND CHUBZ GOT ANOTHER CHANCE AT LOVING EACH OTHER OR IN THE OPEN AND HER KIDS LOVING HIM IS ALWAYS A BONUS❤️
This book has so much heart in it- I can’t contain it. It’s funny, it’s hot but more importantly it’s real. The story grips you by the throat and is honestly one of my favorites this year!
Ive been in a book slump for at least two weeks now but this cure me. I thought this was short but it had a mighty kick. Shon has a way of making me feel good after reading her books.
Another hit in this King's town universe! And I love that Chubz is made to be as desirable as the rest of the men in this series BECAUSE HE IS. 🎶It's Cuffin Seasonnn🎶
