In a world where prejudice and misinformation cloud our judgment, Pitbulls have been unfairly stigmatized in the canine world.
“The Misunderstanding Surrounding Pitbulls” dispels myths about Pitbulls, from their supposed danger to humans to the belief that Pitbull puppies are safer to adopt than adults.
From breed-specific legislation to their origins in cruel sports, this book delves into the history and genetic makeup of Pitbulls, showcasing their true nature as friendly and loving animals.
A few years ago my niece adopted a pitbull. She had two other dogs, and we wondered at the time—why a pitbull—because we lived under the mistaken delusions that pitbulls were mean vicious dogs that were dangerous as pets. Until we met her dog. Our attitude completely changed.
The Misunderstanding Surrounding Pitbulls does a wonderful job of explaining why pitbulls got such a terrible reputation and why it is so unjustified. Pitbulls are not inherently mean and cruel by their nature. Sure, there was a time when they were trained to be aggressive for dog fighting, but the authors relate a wonderful story of how close to 50 pitbulls who were rescued a few years ago were able to be rehabilitated into family pets, support dogs, etc.
Some of the myths surrounding these dogs don’t even make sense, but often times logic and science has little to do with what people believe about things. I highly recommend this book. 5 stars.
I liked the specific facts relating to beliefs attached to the word pitbull. I also gained knowledge about pitbulls by reading the attached aspca articles highlighted within the chapters.
