The Crone of Elders Blaze

Rate this book
In the world of Myrtlewood, magic isn't just a myth—it's a birthright.

It's Christmas eve and Delia's family is finally together again. All is quiet and still, and yet can't help but feel a sense of foreboding. After all, an ancient dragon has just awakened and stronger magic is pulsing through the veins of the Myrtlewood Crones.

Delia braces herself for her most enchanting adventure yet as questions about her grandmother's mysterious death and her heritage haunt her. On top of all this, her daughter Gillian's strange behaviour becomes even more unsettling and the spirited grandchildren tumble into the mix.

Every new revelation pushes the Crones closer to danger, as they work to unlock their deeper powers, but Delia is now more determined than ever to confront the mysteries that threaten her family and confront the past. Dive headfirst into a whirlwind of magic, betrayals, and family secrets!

Passing

These books are good enough that I’ve read 3, but they always seem to lack development in areas. For example, there are hints in this book, as there were in the previous book, that Delia and Declan are falling in love. Yet, there is never anything in the story to explain why they’re falling in love. Yes, Delia knows Declan helped her, but there are no sort of overtures that explain their developing feelings. Delia is extremely rude to Declan and threatens him every time she sees him, but he is falling for her?! Why?

There are numerous errors in the book that should have been caught be a decent editor. They include both misspellings and words that are totally wrong. And no, I’m not referring to British spellings verses American spellings. I’m referring to actual errors. Ingrid is supposed to be saying something at one point, but another witch’s name appears, causing at least momentary confusion for the reader. The book is supposed to be saying something about air in another section, but says about “are” instead. These are just two examples. The typos are too numerous to list.

There are also times when the author seems to be repeating something she said. It’s so close to the same thing, you might find yourself turning back or forward pages to see if you somehow ended up on the wrong page.

Then, there are times when you’ll think the author is never going to stop writing about an issue. She goes on endlessly. I wanted to say, “Ok, we get the point,” in one extremely wordy section.

On the good side, I do see that the author has potential. She has some parts that are written very well. It’s just that she seems to drop the ball in the middle of the development. I almost get the impression she’s afraid to allow her stories to have too much depth. To this I would say, please follow through! Depth makes stories so much better!

In conclusion, if you’re just looking for some light, non-taxing reading, you might enjoy reading these stories. Just understand up front that there’s not that much to them.

I love Ms. Beaglehole’s books. They are like Harry Potter for adults, lol. believe me, I’ve seen those movies many times, having children that were the right age to love Harry Potter when it came out. Looking forward to reading more books by this author.

I love these books! They are like Harry Potter for adults ( I mean that in the nicest way possible). My kids were the right age to read ALL those books and watch ALL the movies over and over. To be honest, I read the first one to make sure I was comfortable with them reading it and I was. So, years later, I have discovered Ms. Beaglehole’s books. I love the characters, the settings, the adventures and the magic. Love these characters, especially the crones. Thank you for the laughs and all the other feels.

I’ve been really getting immersed in books with an “older” main character, and this is one such series. This latest is filled with interesting twists and turns, with one I really didn’t see coming. I feel so much for Delia with her daughter causing her pain, and not only that, her struggles with the baddies and her feelings for Declan. While we didn’t get too much of a movement in plot, we did get some character development and some interesting surprises, a couple which made me really angry with a couple of characters. LOL! Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Continuing the series, but I don't really feel a lot of progress has been made in the overall storyline. It seems we have 2 "bad" forces vs the Crones. Everyone seems to want the power the Crones have and are willing to kill to get it and subjugate them to their will. Multiple Bad "Guys" and lots of morally deep grey moments. Not quite certain about the Delia/Declan set-up. Not a big surprise but it's still sort of out of left field as to Why? As others have noted there are some line flow and typos that can distract. I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over in a couple sections. I'll most likely continue with the series but it's not an urgent need.

Another wonderful visit with the Crones

The third instalment of the Myrtlewood Crones is as epic as its predecessors.
The crones embark a a new years quest. They face their fears and find new perspective in this story, whilst continuing to work as a team.
I love the characters and can picture each of them as I’m reading (probably helped by being the same age as Delia 😉), I feel like I’m reading about friends and family and really look forward to my visits.
Thank you Iris for another brilliant book xx

Love how Iris makes me want to keep reading her books, another one I cannot put down. The Crones go on yet another adventure, and things as normal don't go as planned. All I will say is their are all safe when you finish reading, but the mini cliffhanger, well I like to see how they get out of that mess.

As much as I love these books and their characters I still don't really understand the over all story line. They have me hooked but I don't really know what the overall aim of the story is.
I also can not keep quiet any longer about the shocking mistakes in every single book. The editor should be fired! Incorrect words, omitted words, full sentences that don't make sense. Its such a shame

Maybe I've read too many "cozy mysteries" in too short a time period. But this one just didn't click for me.

Too disjointed. Too much repetitive detail, over and over, that contributed little to the narrative arc or the suspense build. Might benefit from a professional editor and/or a professional proofreader.

Done with this series.

Light reading, not enough plot development for my liking the stories not really moving fast enough. The spelling mistakes aren't a big deal for me. But the constant use of enveloping and ethereal did kind of start getting on my nerves.i'll probably finish the series at some point maybe just to see what if anything happens next.

Excellent Read

Very much the middle of an adventure, this book carries the imagination through all the emotions and traumas faced by the crones, whilst painting beautiful images to enhance understanding and perception. Looking forward to the next instant.

Will continue the series but feel like there needs to be more plot development. Still don't know what the ultimate goal is and why 2 groups are against the crones. Hopefully the next book pulls more together.

The Crones are in Trouble

I enjoyed reading about this world of magic . The twists in this book had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I love the descriptions of nature.

I continue to enjoy this series which is remarkable for me as I usually get tired of the repetition found in other book series. The adventures are full of new experiences and the main characters continue to grow and work together.

A Delight

Delia and the crones are bonding, their magic is increasing. Dragons are joining the little group. And then there’s the wild card, Declan. I start the last book in five minutes. So exciting!

I have been reading this series and they are all stand alone books can follow somewhat on the one before but can be read alone. I am really enjoying the characters in these books. They are very likeable and the story line is good.

I enjoyed this third installment of the Crone saga, with a bit of heat. It's good to see the characters and story grow. And there's another dragon! I look forward to the next installment.

Al terzo libro finalmente ho ceduto al richiamo delle ricette dei dolci da forno e del tè. Continuando così, mi aspetto di ricevere una bottiglia di Sherry alla fine della saga.
