Storm in Her Heart

Rate this book
Love can weather the stormiest of hearts…
Athena Storm, the resilient owner of a struggling tavern, has weathered many storms in her life. As she fights to keep her establishment afloat, she is convinced she does not have time for a relationship.

Enter Kate Franklin, an ex-cop turned delivery driver who seeks refuge from her past. Although she never intended to look for romance, she can’t stop thinking about the auburn-haired, green-eyed bar owner named Athena.

Lacey Storm, a bright and ambitious college student, is eagerly counting down the days until graduation, yearning to embark on her career as a graphic designer. The only problem is having to say goodbye to Max, the roommate she’s been secretly in love with for years.

Max Graham loves running the kitchen at Athena’s bar, especially when her roommate, Lacey, stops by. Keeping her crush locked in her heart, Max is content with the occasional stolen glances, or so she thinks until their last chance at love is on the line.

When a catastrophic blizzard catches them all in the mountains on New Year's Day, they not only work to survive but also share their vulnerabilities and secrets. As they weather the external storm, each must simultaneously confront their internal ones.

I wasn’t able to connect to both MC couples and the end felt rushed to me. Whereas the beginning was too slow and didn’t hold my interest.
I enjoyed other books from KC Luck more.

I felt a bit frustrated with this book. Too many things happened, and I feel that at the end of the book we don’t get many answers.

There’s a main story and a secondary story. The second story is a bit more structured, has more background and a more detailed ending. The first story the one that presents the MCs I find it a bit messy with loopholes, the characters are in far ends, one is thoughtful, kind, and respectful the other a bit selfish, doubtful but open to new things cautiously.

Loved It!

As it is with KC Luck’s storytelling, we have a story of two mature women and two younger generation women all coming together for a catering job but all get caught in a weather event. The characters were of strong women that you could not help but love. Athena Storm is the catalyst that brings this group together but it is Kate that is holding them all together. Lacey, Athena’s niece and Max who are attracted to each other for years but neither has said anything and now Lacey plans on going to New York or somewhere big when she graduates and doesn’t want to start things with Max to hurt her. Athena owns a struggling bar and caters on the side. Max works with her and Lacey helps out when she is needed. Kate is the driver for the beer distributor that Athena has been using. Kate is very attracted to Athena even though she is straight. She is sure that Athena is flirting back and wants to see where this will go, so she volunteers to drive Athena to the catering job a few hours away at a lodge when Athena’s car dies. So off they all go, each with the own issues causing an awkwardness for a long drive. I loved the story. I loved the banter. I loved the description of the weather as it was hitting. I love Kate who comes out the hero in this. I loved how the story came together for Lacey and Max. I wish there was a little more description into the relationship that comes together for Athena and Kate. It was too brief considering this story is about Athena. Maybe there should be a second book as these two couples were exciting and interesting.

What a lovely story about 2 couples. A middle aged couple and a couple of 20 somethings. They are together to work a catering job, as they leave a snow storm hits! And they have to work together to survive. This is a beautiful friends to lovers/ toaster oven romance story! Definitely 5 stars!

I was all ready to say this was kind of a light and zero-angst story… then along came the blizzard mentioned in the blurb, and things got a little more serious (which, I think was a good thing). Still, it was an overall pretty light story of four individuals who eventually find their way into two couples. It was kind of interesting that it split the time between all of them instead of focusing on only one couple or one side of the relationship. It worked for me because they were all distinct characters and their stories were intertwined enough that it never felt frustrating to switch POVs; the overall story kept moving forward. And that made it kind of a two-fer as far as story types go, as each character and couple had separate issues to work through, and each proceeded at their own pace (one pretty fast, one pretty slow).

Overall this was short, sweet, and enjoyable, and I’d be happy to try another by the author (although at present this book does not seem to be listed under her main Goodreads listing: K.C. Luck).

I really like the author. I admittedly get discouraged when series aren’t finished so I would like a conclusion to the Ruby’s story. She is a person I could hang out in person. There are other amazing authors that are excellent but maybe not ones I could be real life friends with. Time will tell. Everyone is still more accomplished and coolerthan me.

*THIS book. Good narration. Lori Prince is always better when she can use “girl voices.” Her male/butch and older people voices are an issue. And the voices in this book met Lori’s strengths.

The two younger couple were pretty cute. Very cute.

The tight knit group working at the bar Athena needs to save is a family. I don’t have one so that is also sweet.

Athena meeting Kate is a long long slow burn. Kate has is together and is always saving everyone. Althena seems to finally embrace her love for women and it seems she is standing up as a lesbian but it isn’t fully clear. It is subtle. I am fine with subtle. And I am fine with low spice.

It seems some other readers were not. They needed a sex scene and something clearer. Maybe there will be a sequel but I felt it was clear they were a couple. Everything doesn’t need to be sexually explicit. Seriously.

It might not be 5* but it is higher than a 4* and good reads gives me no in between. So honestly, 4.6/4.7 but I am not downgrading this book.

Thank you KC (no I did not get a free code - but as a visually impaired person … KC on audio makes me happy). 💕🍻

A beautiful story of self discovery

There is lots to love about this book, my favourite is the gradual self discovery by Athena of her attraction to women, or maybe just one woman in particular. Having been previously married to a man, we see and hear from Athena’s conversations with herself, how she struggles to identify her feelings and then accept them once she understands what they are.
We see Kate, who is a lesbian, first try to decide if the energy between them is mutual attraction or just friendship. We then see her be so patient with Athena, giving her time and space to understand and accept the growing attraction between them. Not pressing even though she struggles with her own desire for Athena. KC handles this beautifully in my opinion and I’m glad their story was told in such a sensitive way.

Love that isn’t acknowledged is a lost love.

KC Luck has written an interesting love story. One which many go through but refuse to acknowledge. I know I have, but reading this make me realize it is better to talk, ask, acknowledge, share, than to dream of scenarios that are dreams. Lacey, Max, Kate, and Athena discover they lost time by not talking about how they felt or what they wanted. They stumble, but eventually find that sometimes the heart knows more than the brain, and snow gales/storms can create a lifetime of warmth. Enjoy.

great story

I loved this story but I was 100 percent disappointed, I was so excited over Kate and Athena I couldn’t wait to read about their first time together and then it was nothing absolutely nothing. The chemistry between the them was so high and then nothing. I can’t really say I’d read another book because I don’t want to be let down. But anyway Sorry the story was really good tho and I would of definitely gave it a 5 star

A New Year of Love

Lacey and Max are college students and roommates who have unexpressed feelings for each other. Athena is Lacey’s aunt and owns and runs a bar and restaurant where Max works. When Kate, a former police detective who has just moved to Oregon becomes a beer delivery driver, Athena find herself experiencing strong feelings and emotions for Kate. A story of love and discovery for two couples. Great author.

so much snow

I enjoyed this book. Lots going on so it never got boring. I’m sure I’d happily read a second instalment to know how things turned out. I kinda want to know her reaction to the news at the end and if either one got around to asking that other question. Vague statement I know, but I don’t want to give anything away.

Good book

A good Christmas story about two couples. The younger couple is having a hard time communicating how they feel for each other. While the older couple it a bit different one coming out and they other is willing to wait. Just wish there was more in detail but the older couple or hoping for a second boo

A Great Story

Wow, lots of storms in this tale, in all four main characters, and in a real actual storm--it's a great story. I highly recommend it. It's filled with romance, low on angst, and there's action too. Lots of KC Luck good feelings included and of course a HEA . Love it.

This book started a bit slow but did pick up. There where parts i liked better than others. Im a sucker for danger, 1 mc in trouble and or getting hurt. That kinda thing, so those parts where so my thing lol. Story progressed at a resonable pace so development in relationships worked for me. Strong women against the odds, banding together where all bonus elements

This is NOT forced proximity during a catastrophy. Of the 8 hour audiobook only about one hour are about the four characters being cooped up in a cabin during a snow storm. And there are no vulnerabilities or heavy emotions shared during that time.

It's 7 hours of people making assumptions in their head and being bad a communicating.

Storm in Her Heart

So good!

I love that there are two couples in this story! I love that there is a lot of chemistry! I love that in order for everyone to figure their s#!t out, they all have to get caught in a blizzard, forced to find shelter, and struggle to stay warm by sharing BODY HEAT! It was all very well- written and kept me turning the pages!

This was an enjoyable, easy, sweet read. I always love Lucks' butch characters. It's not really a holiday story, New Years Eve aside, but the second half does take place in the mountains surrounded by whiteout blizzard conditions with a lot of champagne. So, if you’re seeking a romance set around the holidays, this could be the book for you.

Four women equals two couples

Such a sweet story, actually it's a twofer Four women ride the rollercoaster of attraction to how could things work out? Then trials and fear with love getting closer every day.

It's two AM and I just finished the book. Too good to put down even though I knew how it would end.

Double the Relationships, Double the Fun

This a really wonderful story. I have how KC Luck had two couples for the main characters. It was lovely to she how the couples weathered the storm to find each other.

Perfect

What an absolute charming story, I loved it. It's the first weekend in January after all the holidays and I just enjoyed one of the laziest Saturday's I've had in so long, and I spent most of it reading.

What a perfect choice of story on a cold winter day.

I NEARLY FROZE IN MY HOME IN EMPATHY…

Well, it is winter here in Texas, but as warm as my home is (75 degrees) my feet are freezing!

What a great read. I like these characters a lot, especially Kate. She’s my hero.

Excellent character development and a plot-driven story. The author captures the complexities of queer love in a beautiful way. I would have like a bit more backstory into Kate’s reasons for leaving the police force and moving to Oregon. Despite that, however, I really enjoyed this novel.

Late Blizzard but Still A Good Story

The blizzard came later than I expected it to, but it still worked out. Kate and Athena find the beginning of the relationship that we were all waiting for. It did wrap up pretty quick after that, but like I said. It was wanted.

this really annoyed me
I thought there would be a great reason for the ex-cop to be an ex-cop but instead they just used that former profession as some sort of proof that she would be a good driver and a kind person when literally every cop is neither of those things

Fantastic read. Loved the four main characters personalities. The visual descriptions of the weather conditions had me feeling cold and wet as I read the stories.
