Best-selling author Liz Maverick is back with this cozy, captivating holiday rom-com about finding love where you least expect it.
After a broken engagement, Cher decides to leave heartbreak behind by signing up for a holiday house swap. For the next few weeks, she’ll ditch sunny California to spend her first Hanukkah in New York City, a time of snow-covered sidewalks, festive store windows, hot cocoa, and...cute neighbors?
As Cher is moving into her temporary new apartment, Eliot is moving his ex’s belongings out, and he soon finds himself offering to play tour guide. He’s nursing a broken heart too, and spending time showing the beautiful traveler around is exactly what he needs. There’s nothing more magical than jaunting around the wintry city together with no expectations...until he starts hoping for more.
With the holiday of lights—and the sparks of attraction—setting their hearts aglow, will they find a way to bridge the distance? And when the past comes calling, will their first season together be their last?

I am in love with this group of friends and this had me cheering for the couple the whole time! The writing is addictive and bingeable and the voice actors are perfect! I will be keeping an eye out because we need someone for Tamara now!!!
This Audible Original by Liz Maverick is the third in the Eight Winter Lights series, that I began three years ago. There is a wonderful New York City friend group, that we get to revisit every year at Chanukah time. In last year's installment two, poor Elliot has been in love with his best friend, whose love story is evolving with her "basheret" (true love, soulmate). By the end of that beautiful story, we know that Elliot has to soon find love, and we are already rooting for him. As are the five friends. Enter Cher, temporary transplant from LA, who got her heart dumped in California. Cher just walks into Elliot and both are re-awakened. With the witty dialogue from Liz Maverick, another new Chanukah relationship has begun, if only they can get out of their own way.
Last left in the group, is our seventh, Tamara. Will Liz come through for her by the end of 2025? Are we going to leave this friend group with an unmatched extra? Will there be a fourth Liz?
So this is the second audible original I have heard of Liz Maverick, and I listened to the last one literally just a few weeks ago. Its cute. Its called Still Hung Up on You. The voice was so familiar, I had to look it up. Our male narrator is Andrew Eiden. Andrew Eiden from Sarah Adams's books, and from Eight Winter Nights. And plenty of other things I have listened to. Of course he is our Elliot and so many others. And I liked him in the role. But Oh Andrew, Andrew, Andrew, you are not Jewish! Just like in Love You a Latke, (by Amanda Elliot) where somehow the female narrator or the director, did not bother to check pronunciation of Jewish words, Andrew, in a Jewish audio for a Jewish audience, you can't mess this stuff up. No self respecting Jew, and plenty to most of non-Jews, would know how to pronounce "Seder', and guess what, it really isn't "Cedar.' I mean come on. Also Haroset, has a long and strong oh. Ha-RO-set. Not HAHroset. It took me a moment to even figure out what the hell word he was trying to say. This reminds me of my very recent complain of I Love You a Latke, where she just completely Bungled King Antiochus. I mean AnTYohkiss.... Really. Its that long oh.... Auntie - OH- kiss. Hah - RO- set. I mean really...
But this was fun. Maybe a little less exciting than the first two, but lets give Lizzie a break. This can't be easy and she always pulls it out. But I am getting slightly tired of all the Chanukah romance. This one directly followed Love You a Latke. And I have Kissing Kosher out of the library, as well as Eight Nights to Win Her Heart... So Liz, I do have your wonderful Booked for the Holidays all queued up, but I don't want all of these to blend together. So we will see if I can get to it. I had to start some kind of World War Two audio. Seamstresses and Paris, and searching out a grandmothers' secret life. I needed a brief holiday chanukah break. We will see how long I can stick with this audio..... But thank you for always being a breath of fresh air, and for Elliot and Cher. This one was just fun. Thank you. And Happy Chanukah!
Story 4 stars. Narration 5 stars This was a really cute romance that as in the other two books, features a Hanukkah party. It also features everyone from the previous two books-something I didn’t realize until this book. This one was about Elliot who was heartbroken by his unrequited love of Rachel. It’s been a year since Rachel met her soon to be groom and Elliott realizes he is over her. Then Shar shows up apartment swapped across the hall from his. She’s heartbroken herself and taking a month in New York before she goes back to LA. I really enjoyed this one. I’m really hoping there’s another as there’s another character that needs her happily ever after.
On A Night Like This by Liz Maverick Narrated by Dara Rosenberg and Andrew Eiden Standalone in a related Hanukkah Series. Ana's Attic is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com . On A Night Like This by Liz Maverick is the third installment of a cute Audible exclusive Hannukah novella series. This is the third year, and I think it’s my favorite. To be honest, I can’t say for sure, because I don’t really remember the first two books, I am just relying on my reviews for Eight Winter Nights and Bright Winter Lights. I say this because On A Night Like This stood perfectly well on its own.
Cher and her long-term boyfriend just broke up, and heartbroken, she signs up to swap her cute California apartment with a guy in New York for a month in December. Only the apartment wasn’t exactly what she was expecting. Luckily, she bumps into her awesome neighbor, Eliot, who helps her out, and they hit it off immediately.
When Cher’s drab NYC apartment is sorely lacking in Hanukkah spirit, Eliot calls on all his friends (whom we met in previous books) to help. I loved that Cher fit in immediately with this group, and I enjoyed all of the NYC sights that Eliot took her to see.
On A Night Like This was sweet, light, fluffy insta-love with a Friends vibe. Next year I plan to relisten to the first three before she releases the next book because I really like this group of friends.
The Narration: Dara Rosenberg always does Jewish heroines well. Andrew Eiden is Teddy Hamilton's good boy name. I loved his narration, as always.
The Down & Dirty: On a Night Like This is another light and fluffy instalove Hanukkah book. I really like this New York City Jewish friend group, and I look forward to bingeing the whole series again next Hanukkah, hopefully with a new addition.
Rating: 4.25 Stars, 0 Heat (closed door), 4 Narration Purchase On A Night Like This by Liz Maverick
Honestly I think each one of these gets cuter. I felt so bad for Elliot so I’m so glad this was his chance to find love. He’s such a cutie. 🩷I loved him and Cher together. And the holiday vibes are just so fun!
I think of the three in this series this book was my favorite. But it still felt like at times the story struggled from trying to bring in room many plots to a short story. Overall it’s a predictable easy feel good holiday listen.
I’m guessing on that start date, but this was really cute and I enjoyed myself a lot while listening! (Note: I tried books 1 & 2 in the series and wasn’t vibing with either one, but hit it with 3. Maybe I’ll go back and try 1 & 2 again now that I’m more invested in the friend group this series is about.)
This was the first romance book in a long time that had me giggling and kicking my feet. It was so wholesome and how the male main lead THINKS about the female main lead really sold me on their romance
Cute, cozy, festive. I loved the New York City setting and the meet cute between Eliot and Cher. Is it completely unbelievable that they’d fall in love in a week and she’d move across the country for him? Absolutely, but that’s why it’s a holiday romance. Fantasy is key.
This is a really cute and sweet winter series of audio novellas. I just picked the first one because it looked like a fun and short audible original when I wasn’t ready to dive into another book yet, and I was pleasantly surprised - so I listened to the whole series of 3. They are all connected around a group of friends with similar plots, so I’m reviewing them together.
These stories are based around a group of Jewish friends in New York/Brooklyn. Hanukkah Parties, decorations and family traditions play a big role in the interactions. I’m not Jewish, but I enjoyed this peek into a bit of the Jewish culture in the NY dating scene. It provided a fun backdrop to the friendship and relationship interactions.
Winter Nights #1 focuses on Rachel - who meets new guy Oz at the annual big Hanukkah party, only to be left pining over him for a year as he falls for her glamorous best friend, Tamera. As the next year’s party nears, Tamera breaks up with Oz and leaves on a trip to Bali, but asks Rachel to take care of him because he’s broken his foot. Oz asks Rachel to help him write texts to Tamera to win her back. Little did they know that Tamera had realized Oz and Rachel should be together and was trying to set these two up. I didn’t love the dynamics of a sort of love triangle, or secretly being in love with the best friend’s boyfriend. But nothing is too deep - so it stays cute and fun.
Winter Nights #2 is once again based around the elaborate Bosch family Hanukkah party. This year Adam Bosch has grown weary of his mother trying to set him up, so he told her he’s dating his childhood friend, Sarah. But he hasn’t been more than cordial to her at the annual party in years. We know this fake dating trope will probably work as it usually does in romcoms and help bring these two together as a real couple. Sarah’s friend group is kind to welcome Adam back into their fold after he had distanced himself with social status, so it’s fun to see this friend group and their dynamics again.
Winter Nights #3 gives side character Eliot his turn at romance. He’s mostly accepted that his crush Sarah is now happy with Adam, so his eyes and heart are opened to his new temporary neighbor, Cher, as she visits from California in an apartment swap. Eliot joins Cher on seeing the sights of NYC, and recruits his group of friends to help give her sparse pad some Hanukkah decor. They embrace her and help her feel so at home that maybe her temporary visit might extend to more. Maybe Eliot will find his HEA, too.
Cute stories, a fun friend group, interesting settings, and wonderful narrators give this holiday series all that is needed for enjoyable listening. They are lighthearted and clean, and they made me smile. I’d definitely recommend them as fun listens for those looking for Jewish rep in holiday Hallmark-type stories
4 stars — I left writing this review for a few days, so of course that means it’s going to be lackluster! I think this one was my favourite of the 3 so far though, it felt like it had a little less angst or something. No strange other person in the middle, b/c I don’t count the exes. It was just really cute, goofy and fun!
I enjoyed Andrew Eiden’s narration as always, and Dara Rosenberg was pretty solid in her narration as well. Occasionally her Cher felt a bit…more neurotic than I was expecting? I’m not sure. But not enough to take me out, just surprised me.
I was worried that Eliot was going to be maudlin or angsty, but honestly he was far enough along getting over his heartbreak, that it didn’t play as big a part as I was expecting. And while there was some drama from Cher’s side, it was also not as crazy as I was expecting — just enough to give tension, but not so much that I got frustrated.
And these two were just so much fun together. I loved how they connected with one another, and complemented each other. I love that Cher brought out this fun side to Eliot, and the dates were just cute and fun and adorable.
So yeah. This is such a fun little series of novellas, and I love that there is a notable Jewish aspect to them, so you really feel like you get to know a bit about holidays and traditions, etc. I really hope Tamara gets her story next!
Is it a hallmark like winter story? Yes. Was it a feet kicking big grin kinda quick read?! Double yes. The writing was good even tho the story was very transparent, I loved this read! It was exactly the lighthearted story I needed between intense reads 💕
Free on Audible and KU, worth the fast holiday romcom read!
This one was cute, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the other ones. I liked the idea of swapping houses, but the insta love was a bit too much for me. I’m always a fan of reoccurring characters coming back into the next story though ❤️
This was a really cute, low angst novella. (I assume it's a novella given the listening length). A perfect holiday listen and apparently it's #3 in a series lol. So now I'm going back and listening to the others. This popped up in my Audible feed as being part of my membership and I'm glad to have discovered the author. Also, the male narrator, Andrew Eiden sounded familiar and I think he and Teddy Hamilton are one and the same. As a fan of Hamilton's narrations, this was a delightful surprise as well.
How to fall in love with someone in two weeks or less…. The book had potential, but was way too rushed. This time we focus on Elliot and the hopelessly lost Cher that had apartment swapped in his building. Her fiancé just dumped her and lucky for her, she bumped in to Elliot would is able to guide her through New York. It ends with another Hanukkah party and a successful stealing Elvis party.
